Re: US elections - Round Two
There's a story floating round the internet just now that Cruz senior was a chum of Lee Harvey Oswald, via Cuban politics.
Whether it's true or not, I don't currently know. But I suggest The Donald stays well clear of book depositories just in case.

“You may have been knocked down, but America has always been best when she is lying down with her back on the mat, and the crowd has given the final count ... It is time as us for a nation to shake it off and be who we were destined to be.”
Er, what? Is he confusing the USA with one of his bimbos?
The Texas senator fared so poorly in New York that Ben Carson, who dropped out of the race more than a month ago, beat him in one Weschester district.
The man who tried to ban dildos faces his next challenge in the Pennsylvania primary on Tuesday — another vote in which Trump, according to the polls, is projected to crush Cruz

God said that if he wanted America to have half decent candidates for President then He would give them. Well, something like that.
I don't think that God likes America all that much.

Re: US elections - Round Two
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14446346.Cameron_orders_diplomatic_offensive_with_Trump___just_in_case/
BRITAIN'S ambassador to the US has been "engaging" with the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, Donald Trump, Downing Street has confirmed.
The prospect of Mr Trump succeeding Barack Obama as president is an awkward one for David Cameron, after he blasted him last year as "divisive, stupid and wrong" for his comments on excluding Muslims from the US.
The decision to put out diplomatic feelers to the Trump team will be seen as an indication that No 10 is attempting to build bridges in preparation for the possibility of having to deal with the property tycoon in the White House.
Asked whether diplomats had been told to establish contacts with Mr Trump, the Prime Minister's spokeswoman said that this was "part and parcel of what we do".
She explained: "It's a well-known job for our ambassadors and embassies to know the leading political figures wherever they are in the world and to engage with them.
"Obviously, as we get close to the point where nominees for the US presidency are decided, it makes sense to ensure we have got good links with those candidates."
The spokeswoman added: "This is about the engagement that happens between Government and differing political teams around the world in the run-up to elections. It is the type of thing we would have done with elections in the past in terms of engaging with leading candidates."
I am soooo looking forward to AF-1 landing at Prestwick, and the President going to inspect his golf course.

Re: US elections - Round Two
Big day today:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/04/26/trump-clinton-aim-to-sweep-five-northeastern-primaries.html?intcmp=hpbt1
Front-runners Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are aiming for a sweep of all five Northeastern states holding presidential primaries Tuesday, including the big prize of Pennsylvania.
Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Rhode Island also hold primaries on Tuesday. Candidates and outside groups have spent $13.9 million dollars on advertisements in the states, with Clinton and Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders dominating the spending.
Tuesday's contests will be the first since Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich announced that their campaigns were joining forces in an effort to deny Trump the 1,237 delegates he needs to be the Republican nominee.
Under their new arrangement, Kasich won't compete for votes in Indiana, allowing Cruz to take Trump on head to head in the state's May 3 primary. Cruz will do the same for Kasich in Oregon and New Mexico.
Trump panned his rivals' strategy as "pathetic."
"If you collude in business, or if you collude in the stock market, they put you in jail," Trump said as he campaigned in Rhode Island. "But in politics, because it's a rigged system, because it's a corrupt enterprise, in politics you're allowed to collude."

Re: US elections - Round Two
http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/poll-trump-reaches-50-percent-support-nationally-first-time-n562061
Donald Trump has reached 50 percent support from Republicans and Republican-leaners nationally for the first time since the beginning of the NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll in late December. This milestone is significant as the 2016 primary heads into its final few weeks of contests, as there has been intense speculation that Trump's support has a ceiling. Though his support has hovered in the high 40s since mid-March, the front-runner had yet to secure half of Republican voters.
These results are according to the latest NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking poll conducted online from April 18 to April 24 of 10,707 adults aged 18 and over, including 9,405 registered voters.

YUUUUUUUGE wins for The Donald:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/04/27/trump-completes-5-state-sweep-clinton-beats-sanders-in-most-super-tuesday-iii-contests.html
Donald Trump completed a five-state sweep in Tuesday’s Republican presidential primaries, strengthening his shot at avoiding a contested convention – while Hillary Clinton scored convincing victories but was denied the same bragging rights of a primary sweep by a surprise Bernie Sanders win in Rhode Island.
Of the two front-runners, Clinton – who won four states Tuesday – remains closer to clinching the nomination. She now has nearly 90 percent of the delegates needed to secure the party nod, even as Sanders vows to keep fighting.
On the Republican side, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich still can potentially hold Trump under the 1,237 delegates he needs. But the billionaire businessman’s Super Tuesday III run-of-the-table reinforces his aura of invincibility going into the next round.
“I consider myself the presumptive nominee,” Trump said at Trump Tower, with ex-candidate and now-supporter New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie standing behind him. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s over.”
Trump hit over 60% of the vote in some states; Lyin' Ted was totally squashed.

'I don't think he's going to get much of the women's vote': Amal gives rare interview to condemn Trump for 'inflammatory comments toward women and Muslims' and says she's 'perplexed' by his success
Amal Clooney, 38, said she is 'perplexed' that Trump's controversial comments have not slowed him down within the Republican party
She said: 'He has a really high negative rating. I don't think he's going to get much of the women's vote as a result of that'
The human rights lawyer said a Hillary win would send a 'positive message' to Trump to show what the electorate thinks of his views on women

Oh, I should think smug, patronising champagne socialists like her and her husband have done a good deal to help Trump.
These, let us not forget, are the couple that have huge estates all over the world, behind high wall, while telling the rest of us how horrid we are not to want to be swamped with islamists.
And the day Hillary represents anything except globalists and Goldman Sachs is the day the sun rises in the West.

There's not a lot I can disagree with there. I like:
Trump said, if elected president, he would call for a summit with NATO allies and a separate summit with Asian allies to discuss common challenges – including tackling migration and Islamic terrorism. He broadly called for the U.S. to project strength – and better understand who its friends and enemies are. Regarding Russia and China, he said “we are not bound to be adversaries.”
I don't think much of:

"England is our greatest ally" - Ted Cruz hoovers up the Scottish-American vote.
England, Boogerman? He might at least know what the UK actually consists of......
