Snipers Shoot 11 Police Officers At Protest
Five officers are shot dead at a Black Lives Matter rally in Texas, and a suspect tells police "there are bombs all over Dallas".
Five police officers have been shot dead by at least two snipers at a protest in Dallas, Texas.
Six other officers have been wounded in the attack.
Police are involved in an ongoing stand-off with one suspect, who is exchanging "sporadic" gunfire with officers from inside a parking garage.
He has told them that "the end is coming", that he intends to kill more police, and that there are bombs "all over downtown Dallas".
Three suspects, thought to be two men and a woman, are in custody. Two of them were stopped in a car near the scene of the shootings.
The initial gunshots were heard at Belo Garden Park around 8.45pm local time, as hundreds of people gathered to protest over fatal police shootings this week in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and suburban St Paul, Minnesota.
Dallas police chief David Brown said the snipers took their shots "from elevated positions" during the protest in an "ambush style".
Some had been shot in the back.
Mr Brown said it appeared the gunmen "planned to injure and kill as many officers as they could".
TV showed protesters scrambling for cover and police officers crouching behind parked cars or running into what appeared to be a car-parking building with guns drawn.
The scene remains chaotic, with heavily-armed police officers guarding street corners and helicopters hovering overhead.
Earlier police tweeted a picture of a "person of interest" but later said that he had handed himself in.
In a statement they added: "Another alleged suspect was in a shootout with Dallas SWAT officers.
Two people described as a person of interest and a suspect
"That suspect is also in custody.
"A suspicious package was discovered near this suspect's location. The package is being secured by DPD (Dallas Police Department) bomb squad."
In a further statement, police said a police officer had seen a person carrying a camouflaged bag, "walking quickly" down the street.
He then threw the bag in the back of a black Mercedes and the Mercedes "sped off at a high rate of speed".
Officers then followed the vehicle and stopped it.
Police are questioning two people found inside.....etc.

Well, looks like Trump is now odds-on to be the next president, as he's the only one that hasn't been flirting with these people....

It seems the guy in the camouflage T-shirt is NOT a suspect - wires got crossed in this chaotic situation. Also, it's still the middle of the night in Dallas.

President Obama will speak soon on the shootings in #Dallas, TX. We have that and updates now on Sirius/XM 115.
No doubt he will throw yet more petrol on this bonfire, after his twatter justice FB posting.

A mother and six-year veteran of the Dallas DART police force has been named among 11 officer shot during an attack by two gunmen in Texas last night.
Misty McBride was hit in the shoulder and abdomen during the attack but survived and is alert in Baylor University Hospital, according to father Richard who spoke to KTVT.
Misty’s ten-year-old daughter Hunter also spoke to reporters, saying she had seen her mom and told her: ‘I love you and I’m glad you’re here.’
Richard added that his daughter had been shot while standing in the street, suffering a broken shoulder and wound to the stomach before falling to the floor.
He told reporters that she crawled across the floor back to her patrol car where other officers pulled her inside and took her to the hospital.

American needs Obama to get out of bed & address Dallas situation NOW. He poured gas on this situation with his dog whistle message earlier.

Yes, he did - Obama only listened to the social media version of events in an incident in which the police shot a suspect. More accurate background information here:
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/07/08/the-curious-case-of-philando-castile-falcon-heights-mn-police-shooting/
The people at GotNews chased down the social media profiles of Diamond and Philando, and unfortunately a familiar set of social behaviors surfaces.
Yes, Philando Castile was a gang member (crips), frequently picturing himself with firearms, cash, drugs and gang signs; and Ms. Diamond also has a colorfully broadcasted social presence.
Oh, he's spouting off from a NATO meeting - usual blah blah.

Last night’s horrific execution-style shootings of 12 Dallas law enforcement officers – five of whom were killed and seven wounded- is an attack on our country. It is a coordinated, premeditated assault on the men and women who keep us safe.
We must restore law and order. We must restore the confidence of our people to be safe and secure in their homes and on the street.
The senseless, tragic deaths of two people in Louisiana and Minnesota reminds us how much more needs to be done.
This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our brave police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day.
Our nation has become too divided. Too many Americans feel like they’ve lost hope. Crime is harming too many citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children.
This is a time, perhaps more than ever, for strong leadership, love and compassion. We will pull through these tragedies.
Doubtless Hillary will come out with some Obama-type blah blah, or blame a video.

The Latest: AP source says Dallas suspect was Micah Johnson
A Texas law enforcement official has told The Associated Press that a slain suspect in the attack on Dallas police was 25-year-old Micah Johnson.
The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he said he was not authorized to release the information. There were no immediate details on the suspect's middle name or hometown
The attack began Thursday night during a protest about the recent killings by police of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota. Five officers were killed and seven others were wounded. Two civilians were also wounded.
Police Chief David Brown said Friday that his department used a robot-delivered bomb to kill a suspect after hours of negotiations failed. He says the suspect expressed anger over recent killings by police of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Associated Press writer Will Weissert contributed to this report.
There are rumours spreading on social media that the deceased suspect is ex-military.

Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, has been identified as one of the suspected gunmen in an ambush Thursday that left five Dallas law enforcement officers dead and seven more officers injured, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News.
Johnson, who died in the incident, had served as an Army Reservist until April 2015, defense officials said. He was trained and served in the Army Reserves as a carpentry and masonry specialist, they said.
Police said he had told hostage negotiators he was angry about recent fatal shootings of black men by police elsewhere in the United States and that he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers.
The gunman "expressed anger for Black Lives Matter" and told a hostage negotiator he "wanted to kill [police] officers,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said today.
Dallas Shooting Suspect Wanted to Kill White People, Especially White Cops, Police Said
Police spent hours negotiating with Johnson before he was killed by an explosive strapped to a police robot.

Re: DALLAS: Snipers Shoot 11 Police Officers At Protest
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/07/08/details-emerge-about-racial-rage-that-drove-snipers-deadly-rampage.html
The sniper who killed five Dallas police officers Thursday night was a former Army reservist who posted “black power” images online and told police negotiators in the moments before his death he “wanted to kill white people.”
As the law enforcement community reeled from its deadliest day since 9/11, a troubling portrait emerged of Micah Xavier Johnson, 25, who was blown up by a police robot early Friday morning. One friend who served in his platoon during a tour in Afghanistan said Johnson changed after he came home.
When he came back from Afghanistan, he got in touch with some bad folks and went all Black Panther," the man, who asked not to be identified, told FoxNews.com.
Johnson, who is believed to be from the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, confirmed his racial rage to police as he was holed up in the El Centro College parking garage in downtown Dallas.
“The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Friday morning. “He was upset about recent police shootings. He was upset with white people.
“He wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers,” Brown added. “The suspect said he was upset at white people.”
Although a group calling itself the Black Power Political Organization claimed on its Facebook page that it was behind the attack, and that "more assassinations are coming," Brown said Johnson told police he was "not affiliated" with any group.
Still, Johnson, who wore a dashiki and held a fist aloft on his Facebook page, had a temper and owned "a lot of guns," according to the friend.
"He did have some anger issues but never said he would hurt anyone," the friend said, adding with distrubing irony, "His shots were terrible."
According to a senior U.S. defense official, Johnson enlisted in the U.S. Army reserves in 2009 and rose to the rank of private first class. He had one deployment to Afghanistan from November, 2013 to July of 2014. Upon returning, he remained an inactive reserve until May, 2015, when he was honorably discharged.
"He was absolutely normal, a really good friend. We lost touch once he deployed to Afghanistan and I stayed back," the friend told FoxNews.com. "I don't really know how or why it got to the point it did."
Although Black Lives Matter protests held around the nation in reaction to racially charged incidents involving police have at times featured calls for killing cops, the movement immediately condemned Johnson’s attack.
“Black Lives Matter advocates dignity, justice and freedom. Not murder,” the group tweeted early Friday.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/07/09/dallas-sniper-followed-black-militant-groups-on-facebook-was-sent-home-from-afghanistan-over-harassment-claim.html
The Army veteran who gunned down five Dallas police officers Thursday evening subscribed to updates from black nationalist groups on social media and had been sent home from Afghanistan following a sexual harassment allegation.
Micah X. Johnson, 25, shot 14 people, including 12 officers, at the end of an anti-police protest in downtown Dallas. He was killed early Friday after authorities sent a bomb-wielding police robot to infiltrate the parking garage where Johnson was holed up.
Beginning in 2009, Johnson served in the Army Reserve as a private first class with a specialty in carpentry and masonry, the military said.
In May 2014, six months into his Afghanistan tour, he was accused of sexual harassment by a female soldier. The Army sent him stateside, recommending an "other than honorable discharge," said Bradford Glendening, the military lawyer who represented him.
That recommendation was "highly unusual," Bradford said, since counseling is usually ordered before more drastic steps are taken.
"In his case, it was apparently so egregious, it was not just the act itself," Glendening told The Associated Press. "I'm sure that this guy was the black sheep of his unit."
ccording to a court filing Glendening read over the phone Friday, the victim said she wanted Johnson to "receive mental help," while also seeking a protective order to keep him away from her and her family, wherever they went. Johnson was ordered to avoid all contact with her.
Glendening said Johnson was set to be removed from the Army in September 2014 because of the incident, but instead got an honorable discharge months later -- for reasons he can't understand.
"Someone really screwed up," he said. "But to my client's benefit."
After Johnson returned from Afghanistan, a friend who served in his platoon told FoxNews.com, "he got in touch with some bad folks and went all Black Panther."
On Facebook, Johnson "liked" black militant groups including the African American Defense League and the New Black Panther Party, which was founded in Dallas.
His photo showed him wearing a dashiki and raising his fist over the words "Black Power," and his cover shot carried the red, black and green Pan-African flag.
...etc.

I am so pleased my younger son decided not to stay in the US, in fact he says he won't be going back there ever again, nor will I. A pity, as I did enjoy my stay there. LL

Re: DALLAS: Snipers Shoot 11 Police Officers At Protest
I feel like I fell asleep and woke up back in the '60's, LL - this time with technology. And everyone knows how the chaos and rioting ended back in the era of supposed 'Love and Peace'.....

FBI issues report about 'potential' anti-police violence in Baton Rouge, Shreveport

The FBI’s New Orleans Field Division has warned law enforcement agencies in Baton Rouge and Shreveport to be watchful for potential violence in the coming days, citing a host of social media posts about the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge police.
In a so-called “Potential Activity Alert,” the FBI highlighted social media missives that include calls to protest over the killing and a violent computer-generated graphic of a policeman being killed by a masked man.***** The FBI wrote in the report, distributed to law enforcement and obtained by The Advocate, that information forwarded to the agency suggested “multiple groups are calling for or planning riots and/or violence against law enforcement” in those communities.
******I can personally confirm that. From time to time yesterday, I was glancing at #blacklivesmatter for up to date news, and saw the horrible thing posted there.
Several times.
