Paris attack: Two French police officers 'killed' by gunman
An eyewitness has described a man getting out of a car and opening fire "with a Kalashnikov" on the Champs-Elysees.
Two police officers have reportedly been killed in Paris by a gunman who was then shot dead.
The attacker is believed to have deliberately targeted the officers and was known to security services.
The officers were shot outside a Marks and Spencer store on the Champs-Elysees - one of the French capital's main shopping streets and an area popular with tourists.
The gunman is thought to have got out of a car and then opened fire on a police vehicle.
One officer was fatally shot while a second was badly wounded and reportedly died in hospital.
Despite the attacker being killed, police are still on high alert and officers have been seen pointing their weapons at members of public as they clear the area.
Security has been tight in the country, coming just days before the first round of France's presidential election on Sunday.
An eyewitness said the gunman got out of a car and began shooting "with a Kalashnikov".
No information yet as to whether this was terrorism or 'just' crime.

Gunman 'was known by intelligence services for radicalisation' and was 'let go' by anti-terror prosecutors
The 39-year old gunman was known by intelligence services for radicalisation and had previously targeted police 16 years ago in a car chase, when he opened fire on officers, according to reports.
During questioning in a police station, he managed to get hold of a police weapon and fire five times. The policeman survived, but the man was sentence to several years in prison for the attack.
The gunman, who has a previous murder conviction, had recently been detained for questioning in a police station in Meaux, outside Paris, after "informants" had indicated that he was "seeking to obtain weapons to kill policemen", according to reports.
But due to a lack of evidence, anti-terror prosecutors "let him go".

Re: Police officers killed in Paris
Same old story, authorities aren't paying attention and people die. There's actually not a lot anyone can say about this - beyond, it is ridiculous that we are being told we just have to accept this.
