Should the Olympics Committee be looking into maybe postponing it until another suitable venue is found?

Re: The Rio Olympics
They're out of time, Lily, and anyway, the IOC would never admit they are wrong. Tokyo is hosting the 2020 Olympics, so they will be well-run, but they won't be anything like ready.
I think a lot of the London infrastructure is still usable, but other than that, the options are limited. Russia and China could possibly organise in a year, but that's about it.
I understand Chicago was the runner-up for 2016, but courtesy of assorted local issues, it would have been just about as bad as Rio...
IMO, there's also too much money involved for the Games to be called off at this point. I hope and pray nothing ghastly happens in Rio, but the omens are not good.

They have immunity to the water pollution, it has been around for generations. The Indians who bathe in the Ganges have no problems, but if you were to do the same you would run a great chance of contracting some disease for which your system has no defense. LLlily wrote:YUK!! THE RUSSIAN vice-consul in Rio de Janeiro dramatically SHOT an armed robber who tried to mug him.
The robber smashed his car window and pointed a gun at him, demanding he hand over his watch.
nstead, Marcos Cesar Feres Braga, a Brazilian lawyer who holds the vice consul post at the Russian consulate, pulled the would-be mugger into his car, grabbed his gun and shot him dead at point blank range.
The robber struck on motorbike while the diplomat waited for traffic to start moving just after the Olympic torch relay had passed by on the last day before the Rio 2016 opening ceremony.
Witnesses said that Olympic cyclists from Slovenia were passing by at the moment of the shooting

All times are Rio times: add four hours for UK, add 13 hours for eastern Australia; subtract one hour for east-coast US and four for west coast. If that doesn’t cover you, apologies and here is google.
At 9am, it’s archery, with the men’s team and individual ranking rounds.
Followed at 1pm by more archery, with the women’s team and individual ranking rounds.
Then it’s fireworks from 8pm-10pm for the opening ceremony.
So the actual events have started, and the opening ceremony is at midnight tomorrow, UK time? Or is it tonight?

Andy did the single-handed flag carry - not easy.
I have to admit, I didn't really like the opening ceremony. I don't think it translated very well to the small screen and 2D, and the sound was terrible.
The history of Brazil through interpretative dance didn't work, IMO, not least because of the insects emerging from the primordial swamp. Then there was the lecture on global warming from the country with open sewers....
Still, maybe it was just me.

Alley-oops: At least three male Team USA basketball players 'are caught in a BROTHEL in Rio' - but insist they thought it was a spa
DeAndre Jordan, DeMarcus 'Boogie' Cousins and DeMar Derozan were caught going to a high-end brothel near the Copacabana beach in Rio
The Termas Monte Carlo brothel officially brands itself as a spa for men
Team source says men thought they were attending spa until they arrived
According to those inside the club, they bought some drinks and left

I wonder why they would choose to visit a Brazilian 'spa' when they're all staying on a cruise liner?

Well yes, a 'spa' in a Brazilian knocking shop is bound to be far, far superior to a spa on a luxury cruise liner....And I thought they were staying on the liner because they DIDN'T want to catch anything......?
