Re: The Rio Olympics
Russia suspended from Paralympic Games Aug. 7, 2016 16:59
The International Paralympic Committee has banned Russia from next month's Rio Paralympics.
The decision was announced by IPC president Sir Philip Craven at a press conference in Rio and follows three weeks of intense speculation about Russia's right to compete on the world stage following a damning report into its state-run doping programme.

Re: The Rio Olympics
Adam Peaty won gold and Jazz Carlin claimed a silver as Great Britain secured their first medals of the 2016 Olympics on day two in Rio.
Peaty, 21, smashed his own world record to win the 100m breaststroke in 57.13 seconds and end GB's 28-year wait for a men's Olympic swimming title.
Minutes later, Carlin won silver in the women's 400m freestyle.
In the tennis, Novak Djokovic was knocked out in the singles, while Andy and Jamie Murray exited the doubles and Venus and Serena Williams also got beaten.

Several people have speculated that the change is due to algae in the water, perhaps because the pool is lacking in chlorine

Chinese, Polish and Bulgarian athletes sanctioned for doping
August 12, 2016
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — A Chinese swimmer, a Polish weightlifter and a Bulgarian steeplechaser were expelled or suspended Friday from the Olympics for doping, the first athletes sanctioned after failing drug tests at the games.
Weightlifter Tomasz Zielinksi and steeplechaser Silvia Danekova were kicked out of the games after testing positive for banned substances, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said. Swimmer Chen Xinyi accepted a "provisional suspension" after testing positive for a diuretic. CAS said her case will continue, with a final decision to be issued before the end of the games.

Sorry, don't know who you mean. Not into sprinting, do you mean Usain Bolt or Mo Farrar (is he Jamaican)? LLbb1 wrote:I am just waiting for the day when a certain rich, showoff Jamaican sprinter finally gets caught out, LL ....it's people like him that have helped put me off a lot of sport.

No, not Mo, there has never been the slightest hint of it with him, as far as I know. The other one, well, time will tell....

“A bunch of cowards” did not beat the US women’s soccer team on Friday in the Olympic quarter-finals. The US women’s soccer team failed to win.
Through seven World Cups and five Olympic tournaments, the USA had never before been eliminated without a medal. And goalkeeper Hope Solo did not take it well.
“I also think we played a bunch of cowards,” Solo told ESPN’s Graham Hays. “The best team did not win today, I strongly, firmly believe that.”...etc.
Very gracious and sporting.
She needs a few beers with the Tartan Army, she might get the hang of laughing when you lose at fitba'.

Re: The Rio Olympics
Well, well, well! So, if the USA loses, then it's everyone else's fault? After Katinka Hosszu of Hungary powered her way to 3 swimming golds the sniding started, saying she was doped up, that all East Europe athletes are dope fiends - mainly in the US papers, I am sorry to add. What these morons don't seem to understand is that all Hungarians, who live in a country where even a small village has a thermal pool, learn to swim before they can crawl. They have always excelled in swiming/waters sports, and horse riding! LL

Re: The Rio Olympics
The thing about football is, you can be the 'best' team in the world physically, but if the opposition plays smarter than you, there's every chance you're going to lose...
Sounds like she needs to spend a few seasons playing in Europe and learning tactics, not just kicking the ball.

Bonny, they sound spoiled females. The concept of soccer is new to them so I agree. A few games with opposing teams from other countries might just bring them down to earth.

Yes, the UK has done amazingly well this time.
I watched Simone Biles a couple of days ago - she is just astounding! I couldn't even work out how she was doing some of her performance.
