Murder Of Child Rapist: Two Inmates Charged

Two people have been charged with the murder of a prisoner who had been jailed for the rape of a 13-year-old schoolgirl, Sky sources have said.
Mitchell Harrison, 23, was discovered dead in his cell on Saturday by staff at HM Prison Frankland in Durham.
Originally from Wolverhampton, he was convicted of child rape at Carlisle Crown Court last year and given an indefinite prison sentence.
The two men charged are inmates at the prison.
The pair, aged 32 and 23, will appear before magistrates in Peterlee, Durham, on Monday.
A third man who was arrested by detectives is no longer being held in connection with the incident.
A post-mortem examination was carried out and established Harrison had died from multiple injuries.
The cell where Harrison was found has been cordoned off pending a full forensic examination.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Chapman, of Durham Constabulary, said: "We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances leading to this man's death and are working closely with the prison service."
Frankland is a Category A men's prison.

no there wont be tears for the man killed, his crimes were appalling.

but this was a cat A prison so i hope the ones who did do this, arent allowed back into society either.

The prisoner’s escape would be highly dangerous to the public, police or the security of the state and the aim is to make escape impossible

I don't think that is liable to happen, as it is being reported that they disembowelled Harrison...

The thing I always hate about this kind of event is this kind of comment:

"His mother, 45-year-old Angela Murphy, was not at her home in Bedford yesterday".

Is it not bad enough that all the world knows her son is a child rapist and on the Sex Offenders' Register - must she also be hounded for comments re the butchery of her child? He was, after all, her son .... surely she deserves to be left alone to grieve; whatever anyone does, their mother should always be able to mourn their loss. She is not responsible for what he did, is she? Unless it is being suggested she gave him lessons in rape? LL

Oh F**k. I really can't go along with this sort of retribution. Or any sort of prisoner retribution for that matter. Prisoners have a right to protection, no matter what they have done. How dare some other convicted ar*sholes think they have the right to dish out justice.

Of course it should, HB - murder is murder. It does go with the territory in prison, though.

Inmate gets life for Huntley attack

A prisoner who slashed Soham murderer Ian Huntley across the neck with a makeshift knife, leaving him with a gaping wound, has been jailed for life.
Damien Fowkes, 36, was ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years for attempting to murder Huntley and for the manslaughter of child killer Colin Hatch.
Fowkes, who is already serving a life sentence for armed robbery, admitted at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday that he tried to kill Huntley at Frankland Prison in Durham in March last year.
He also admitted the manslaughter of Hatch at Full Sutton Prison in February.


I don't actually know what the law can do about people like that; it isn't really a punishment. Keep him in solitary for the next twenty years?

You're right, Bonny. I goes with the territory. But surely the Prison Warders must know what they are dealing with and take precautions.

Although from the sound of it, this bloke should be in Broadmoor, along with the other two. They should certainly never get the opportunity again. And if that means Solitary Confinement then so be it.

How Huntley feels about it all is bye the bye. I am not concerned about him or his worries. I just think that Prison Justice is wrong.

I agree, it's wrong, Sabot, but what you do about it, I have no idea. I am sure the warders do their best, but realistically, they can't control the prisoners all the time, unless prisons go back to some barbaric system of keeping inmates in solitary confinement 24/7, no association, nothing...

I know it's too late now on these occasions, but now they know what has been done they can't possibly allow these men to wander around among other sexual preditors, or any other prisoners either. Who's to know what such a psychopath will find unacceptable.

I totally oppose The Death Penalty because I believe it is wrong, but I am actually hard line on prison sentences. I don't give a damn about their Yuman Rites. As far as I am concerned, they lost those when they committed their crimes. And anyway, prison rarely reforms any of them. Prison should be hard. It might make them think twice.
