Interesting, thanks, LL - I think it must be a good sign that Libyans are now celebrating without firing into the air, I hope it means they are laying down their arms.

Just watched Sky's first paper review - for a change, the English-language Arab papers.

I hadn't realised how much Gaddafi was loathed by many Arabs, or than he had tried to bump off members of the Saudi royal family, amongst others.

Despite the rule that all Muslims be buried within 24 hours of their death the latest is that Gadaffi's body will not be buried for a few days.

Saif al-Islam was wounded/killed/in hospital/escaped and is now on the run - take your pick.

Still conflicting stories re Gadaffi's death - was he lynched/kicked to death? Was he caught in crossfire between rebels and loyalists just after he was captured?

Muttassim - was he captured alive? Was he, like his father may have been, killed by a frenzied mob?

Will Jabril now step down from the leadershop of the NTC as he said he would if Gadaffi was captured/killed? There are those who do not forget that he was a leading member of the Gadaffi regime before he changed sides and became leader of the rebels.

Oh, I have turned on the news to the inevitable whining of Yuman Rites peeps.

If they spent less time feeling sorry for mass murderers and blood-soaked despots, and more time reading history, they would know that Gaddafi's end is absolutely typical of what happens when these monsters fall into the hands of the people they have been terrorising.

No, it shouldn't happen, but outside the nice, smug world of Guardianistas, it does happen, all the time when tyrants are toppled, and has throughout history.

I am sure they would all have been happier if Gaddafi had been taken to a nice villa from which he could have phoned his old friend T. Blair, and got Cherie Blair to represent him at the Hague, where he would have claimed compensation from NATO due to his Yuman Rites not being observed.

I don'r remember the Yuman lot bleating when Ceauşescu and wife were dragged screaming out of a courtroom after a drumhead trial and shot dead on Christmas Day, do you?

Oh they will try and make an issue out of it, sitting in their safe little democracies, warm offices, drinking wine and eating Ferro Rocher. They probably have never been within 1,000 miles of a war, even a minor one.

Oh, the protesters in Syria celebrated Gadaffi's fall. They were chanting "He is gone, you are next, Assad!!" Ditto in Bahrain and Yemen. And now they are wondering about how this will impact on Africa, where Gadaffi invested millions of Libyan money. And now the African Union will have to sort things out. Niger and their neighbours are also over a barrel; they supported him, got loads of cash, now what?

More on the strike on Gadaffi's convoy - it was a drone that fired on them. Still the discussion re how he died rumbles on .... LL

From the somewhat gory videos I saw, LL, Gaddafi started trying to tell his captors what to do - which may have been the last straw for people who had lost family and friends in his torture chambers.

No, it shouldn't have happened - but he is just one in a long line of monsters who have left this world at the hands of the people he has been terrorising.

And it may help concentrate the minds of the other despots enormously.

She is now receiving proper treatment for her injuries.

According to Sky, it seems events unfolded thus...a Gaddafi convoy did indeed manage to get out of Sirte, but it was spotted and reported to NATO.

A drone then fired on it (controlled, apparently, from Las Vegas of all places). The convoy scattered, and the drone fired on one group which were leaving at high speed.

Gaddafi was in that group, which is how he came to be hiding in the drain.

Which actually makes sense of the first confused reports.

His presence in Sirte explains why the loyalists fought so hard. Just watched the Libyan Crown Prince and also the doctor who was, along with 7 nurses, accused of infecting Libyan children with HIV; three times he was sentenced to death, and then reprieved. He was finding it difficult, I suppose because he is a doctor, to voice his thoughts about how he felt at the news. I hope the new Libyan government have a good go at the Lockerbie bomber; maybe the threat of sending him back to Scotland will loosen his mouth? LL

I just think there is something so much more humiliating in putting these people on trial and then locking them up for ever in a really horrible prison. I wanted to see him telling The Court where to go and being told to STFU. Gagged even.

Just enjoy the irony - he would have been better off staying in the Bar-L; now, he is dying by inches without much medical care at all, and his protector has gone before him to his Maker.

I gather the Scots police will be happy to receive files, etc., from the new government as soon as the dust has settled a bit; it's still regarded as an open case, as Magrahi didn't act alone.

Yes - if it works that way, which I personally don't think it would have. Assorted Balkan warlords have treated the Hague with total contempt, and turned it into yet another platform.

With access to his funds, Gaddafi would have had hot and cold running Yuman Rites lawyers, and would have carried on grandstanding. It would have gone on for years, while Libya sunk into even more chaos, with more innocent blood being spilled, and there would never have been any kind of closure, IMO.

I know it shouldn't have happened, but I really cannot get too worked up about the manner of his demise; his final words seem to have been to bark orders at his captors, so, live by sword, die by sword, seems to me to apply.

I'm not really bothered, and I certainly don't blame them for getting a bit carried away. I just have a teensy problem with people killing people in an ideal world, which has to start somewhere. I ever hope.

I know what you mean, Sabot, but - it might not have happened if he hadn't tried to order them around with his last breath. We'll probably never know, but it may have been the final straw for someone, his being arrogant to the end.

As for Magrahi - maybe his current situation comes under the heading of, Beware of what you wish for..

I would like to have seen him stand trial for his deeds. But, I suppose justice comes in many forms.

Yes, let's have the LL Eye on the other places. They have all got to go. I only hope that these horrendous events will be for the good of the people and not an excuse to inflict another regime.

All of the Libyans I have seen want the same as we hope for for them, Sabot - a modern, democratic nation, with Libya's vast wealth being used to the benefit of the Libyan people.

I'm sure they have a rocky road ahead of them, and things will sometimes go wrong, it's inevitable, but my own feeling is that they will get there in the end.

Also - Libya is a beautiful country, not just deserts and sand, with a long history. I hope it is opened up to the wider world in days to come, with tourists visiting in their tens of thousands; they have some of the most spectacular Roman ruins outside Italy in Libya.

It was on here last night, LL I thought it was rather good.

I am hoping that the barsteward really was pleading for his life, as reported yesterday, right before he met his maker. I wanted him to experience a little of what his victims went through.

I once went to somewhere around there on holiday and bought this wonderful pure wool black hooded cloak which has caused a sensation during my occasional forays into some sort of social life. The fact that I got tapped up by an Arab in the process is neither here nor there. I have been tapped up by worst specimens.
Also went on a Camel Ride and could have got addicted to that, but I usually avoid mentioning this due to Vile Viv claiming the same thing.
