Do the couple maintain good relationships? Are they implicated in serious litigation? Do they have enemies? For what reason? So, I telephone Glen Powers, the English liaison officer in Portugal, inform him of events and request that he relay our requests for reports. We consider these to be of the greatest importance and await sensitive responses to guide our investigation.

While I am on the phone and my daughters are sleeping, Sofia makes breakfast for me. She is quiet and regards me with a questioning look, as if she suspects that from today, she won't see much of me. It's not the first time this has happened: she knew that I wouldn't count my time in a case like this.

He's already made up his mind, hasn't he?

And please note - nowhere does he mention the small detail that, at almost the same time as he is deciding the McCanns DONE IT, he himself has been made an arguido because of his involvement in the proven torture of the mother of another missing child - conduct which has gained him a criminal conviction.

I wonder why that is?

I would say he was rather mentally preoccupied. Also, how cruel was fate? Madeleine went missing when he was considering his fate concerning Joana Cipriano.

I do believe a psychiatrist could have a field day exploring all of this with Gonc.

It is a bit nasty, isn't it. And we are all fairly convinced that Kate McCann could have come to some grief at Portimao Police Station if Gonc had thought he could get away with it. It seems to be common practice in Portugal by The Police Judiciare, here after known as The PJ. But all of their dirty dealings are coming out into The Public Domain, aided and abetted by we who holler and shout about it at every given opportunity. Gonc is actually awaiting Trial for personally beating up another witness. So we doubt that they will try that one again. So there is some serious purpose to our larking and joking even if it doesn't always look that way.
However, there are some very good people in Portugal who are just as disgusted as we are.

I am going through the Portuguese press looking for glowing reviews of Gonc's latest opus; I haven't found any so far, glowing or otherwise.

I suppose that is a forgery as well? Problem is, neither of them are - which is why Gonc was so desperate to keep them out of one of his many court cases.

Surely even his fan club can figure out that, if they were both forged, then there would have been Hell to pay for something so serious? That there would have been an investigation into such a serious crime, and arrests? Instead of just Lovely Sofa's memory loss?

Also, that the log entry went freelance, thanks to a police officer disgusted by Gonc, should tell them all they need to know about how Gonc is regarded in Portugal, outside his own clique.

But, but, all happy families have little hiccups, don't they? The odd affair now and again, and separations, and threats of violence, and driving small daughters around, drunk in charge of a Police Car.
And what loyal brother would mind about the odd loan not being repaid. And how dare The Tax Man expect to be paid, let alone rapacious Mortgage Companies stealing the money from babes and sucklings who need their swimming pools.

DETECTIVES who took over the Madeleine McCann case have blasted the first investigation team's flawed inquiry.

A Portuguese newspaper yesterday quoted a police source as saying they found key papers were not filed properly and vital information was disregarded.

The source added: "There was no central figure who knew how to distribute work.

"Blunders by the original investigators include failing to secure the crime scene and to carry out proper, controlled searches of the area.

A question. Was it Clawdia who said that Gonc was not in charge of the investigation but was the coordinator? Would that be the same position that I have highlighted above?

As you know I'm the wife of the Coordinator of Criminal Investigation Gonçalo Amaral, with whom I have a daughter minor of age, with 4 years old, named Inês Sofia. You know also that Inês Sofia is living temporarily with her father.
By the present way I want to expose to you:

1. As agreed with my husband, Inês Sofia should spend Christmas with me, since last Thursday, day 20th. In that day, I contacted Gonçalo by mobile phone, and I was informed that Inês was with him, in trip to Coimbra and would only return on the following day;

2. On Friday 21st, I called again my husband, around lunch time. He informed me they were still on trip and at soon he arrive to Faro he will give me Inês. I waited until 8 PM without any news and Gonçalo never answered my phone calls. I then decided to go to a pub where I encountered Gonçalo and other colleagues of him consuming alcoholic beverages, asking him by Inês Sofia, he answered, visible drunken, that “she was resting” and that he will give me the child the following day. Then he departed, driving an Audi car from the police.

3. On Saturday 22nd , and after many attempts, my husband finally answered the phone in the middle of the afternoon, and asked me to get Inês in home. I rushed to the residence, but nobody was there. After a while, Gonçalo appeared driving the same car, and again in a notorious state of drunkenness. Having asked him for Inês Sofia, he ordered me to go inside the house, where he insulted me and threatened me of death. I abandoned the place.

4.Today, Sunday 23rd, and after numerous attempts, Gonçalo never answered his phone and he is not at home.


Unfortunately, this situation is not a unique and isolated act, and you Sir well know about other times in the past where I've also asked for your help. Once more, I ask again for your help, in order to guarantee Inês Sofia integrity, and in order to localize her.
