Missing Dutch tourist found alive in Spain!
Dutch touriste Mary-Anne (48) missing in Spain for 3 weeks
Mary-Anne Goossens
No trace, no leads, no use of debit or creditcard, no cell phone contact....
Spanish police launched massive search for Mary-Anne Goossens but found nothing: the search was called off.
Spanish police move the case to a possible crime investigation.
The disappearance of the Dutch is disturbing to say the least. Mary-Anne Goossens had little stuff with them, since her disappearance has not used her debit or credit card and is no longer reachable on her mobile phone while she normally had daily contact with her family.
Reconstruction:
Tuesday, 14 June : Mary-Anne left the country for a holiday in Spain
Thursday,16 June arrival in the afternoon in Nerja, booked hotel.
Friday, 17 June: around 1.00pm last seen shopping in nearby village
Since then....vanished.
Since Friday 17 June, the Limburg (southern Netherlands) Mary-Anne Goossens is missing. Mary-Anne left on her own at June 14 for a 10-day holiday to Malaga (Spain). Her last contact with home were text messages with her kids at Thursday night. Mary-Ann checked into Hotel Bajamar in Nerja (Malaga) in the afternoon of Thursday 16 June.
Her credit card and debit card on that date last used. The hotel room was prepaid untill Thursday 23 June.
Thursday night she slept in the hotel.
Friday 17 June, pictures of Mary Anne were taken in Frigiliana, nearby Nerja. She was wearing the same clothes
that were missing from her suitcase, that was left in her hotelroom.
Friday around 1.00pm she was last spotted in a shop and since then no trace of Mary-Anne.
As of Friday 17 June, she no longer slept in the hotel.
Friday 24 June Mary-Anne would be flown back to the Netherlands. The large-scale search by the Civil Guard held around Frigliana, has so far yielded nothing. In addition, possible phonecalls on her GSM were not traced so far. (???)
Mary-Anne left on vacation in good mental and physical health. The family is very concerned because it's out of character for Mary-Ann to have no contact with her family for so long. Authoritues both in The Netherlands and Spain were warned and informed.
Mary-Ann's ex-husband and her two children, daughter Jantje and her brother Fritz, left for Spain to help in the search for their mother and ex-wife and to spread posters of the missing librarian.
"We will do everything that is in our power to find my mother and all help is welcome in Holland and in Spain" said Jantje before she went to Spain. The family returned to the Netherlands this week.
The family set up a fund, the Mary-Anne Goossens Foundation http://maryannegoossens.blogspot.com/
The foundation got help from several phone providers and Transavia Airlines sponsort a flight to Spain for the family.
A tip and information line was set up by the fund.

Mary-Anne was lost
By Yolanda van der Graaf and Jeroen van der Weijden
NERJA / LONDON - The first astonishing details about the miraculous survival of Mary-Anne Goossens (48) which was less than eighteen days without a trace, are currently come to light in the Costa del Sol.
Mary-Anne is alive
Mary-Anne Goossens leaves the helicopter to a waiting ambulance.
According to a doctor at a hospital in Malaga who spoke this afternoon with Mary-Anne said, "It's a wonder that the woman was found alive and well. The Limburg librarian appears she has been lost in the inhospitable area around Nerja and kept herself alive with some water from a mountain stream.
Her nightmare began when Mary-Anne Goossens, who booked a ten day holiday in Nerja, left her hotel on Friday 17 on foot in the direction of the mountains. The woman was heading towards the village of Frigiliana that includes a castle, Castillo Alto, she wanted to visit. But it wen horribly wrong. "At some point, Mary-Anne missed a turn and got lost", says the doctor
The Dutch desperately tried to find the way back, but when the darkness sets in she had to stop her efforts. The next day the woman walked further and at one point in an impenetrable terrain in the mountains where she ended up she could not go further, but no more could she come back. "She lived all those days in a small cave and drank water from a mountain stream" The area had poor range, making it impossible to use her cell phone to turn for help.
Underfed
Yesterday, seriously weakened and malnourished Mary-Anne, suddenly her life was near. "Suddenly she heard voices and started to scream. She also had a whistle with her, that she used and was able to attract the attention of three walkers nearby. They came to her rescue. They immediately fed Mary-Anne, have her a sleeping bag and informed the Guardia Cicil. Because it was already dark, police only this morning launched a rescue".
Rescue workes dropped from a helicopter, had to move the woman to another point where the helicopter could land.
Subsequently, the Limburg was flown to a hospital in Velez Malaga where they she is currently under observation in the emergency department. Her children Fritz and Jantje hope to fly to Spain to be reunited with their mother.

It must always be a worry that people have simply had accidents, Pedro - it happens so easily in the countryside away from tourist areas.

That is fantastic news! And she had indeed got into problems when she went off the beaten track? No matter, she is safe now - and it is marvellous to get good news for a change!
