Cops to check Costa sighting

DETECTIVES searching for Madeleine McCann are following up fresh clues from a potential sighting on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
A blonde girl identical to Madeleine was seen at a campsite there three days after she was snatched a few hours drive away in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007.
A witness said the groggy-looking child seemed alienated from the German family she was staying with in a caravan.
Now Brit cops have been told the family paid extra for bringing one child more than expected when they arrived at the site on May 6.
And questions over the number plates on their car have raised fears they could have been fakes used to dodge detection.
Holidaymaker Karen Sisson, 49, who saw the child at the Cabopino campsite, near Fuengirola, said she got no response from cops when she raised the alarm at the time.
Clue 2 ... records show the family paid out to bring one more child than expected
Karen, of Gibraltar, said the girl wore a pink T-shirt, shorts and a beige hat and seemed “out of it”.
She did not seem to fit with the German couple or their two curly-haired toddlers.
Karen said: “She seemed alienated and completely different to her family. It really was most peculiar.”
The mum of two said her suspicions grew the next day when she saw the girl wearing the same clothes as the day before.
Clue 3
Karen left the day after, but the couple stayed two weeks. Campsite records seen by The Sun show they checked in under the name Karsten Mayer with a 1970 date of birth.
Their car had a “BE” German plate, which went out of official use 38 years ago. Karen believes their car was a blue Mercedes Vito people carrier, first produced in 1996.
Yesterday a source close to Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann of Rothley, Leics, said the sighting had been passed on to Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange, set up to trace the youngster.
The McCann’s official spokesman said: “This lady has done exactly the right thing in reporting what she saw to police.”
Last month cops released a picture of how Madeleine might look now, at nine.

Thanks, Rose.
Ms Sisson, from Gibraltar, who saw the child at the Cabopino campsite, near Fuengirola, said she received no response from police when she raised the alarm at the time.
How many times have we heard that now?

about "she received no response from police when she raised the alarm at the time", the stupidity of police from Fuengirola.
I agree with bb1: "How many times have we heard that now?"

Re: 3 new clues to Maddie Cops to check Costa sighting (merged)
Thanks, Pedro:
Again, not far from Nerja. If Madeleine was indeed there, she would be hidden in plain sight. There are so many ex-pats in the area, one British child wouldn't stand out.
If she was in the area recently, a dark-blonde child speaking a mixture of English and Spanish wouldn't attract attention, either.

Karen Sissons has posted a comment on The Mail Article. A really interesting comment with over a thousand Green Arrows. She said that until now she had no idea that The Police didn't investigate her report of a sighting.

Re: 3 new clues to Maddie Cops to check Costa sighting (merged)
I saw the 'girl' on the 6th and 7th of May and I returned to Gib on the 8th of May. If I had called the Spanish police at the campsite they would probably not even have come, I know how they are in Spain. So as soon as I got back to Gib I started to try to report it, there was no number at that point, so eventually had to ring the BBC.An editor rang me back and got a Portuguese policeman to ring me, He took a few details but very scathingly said 'oh we have hundreds of sightings' and I heard no more from them. I was so frustrated I rang crime stoppers, the UK police, I sent messages to the hotline, Metodo 3, and reported it to Gibraltar Police . (They actually told me later it had been followed up and ruled out, but I now know this was not true). You can call me all you like, I have been trying to get it investigated for five years, now is better late than never.

Yes, Bonny, they probably will track her down and hate spam her. But she is not shy of coming forward. A brave woman, obviously.
That was her second comment, actually. There was another earlier when she said it was just a weekend break. She had no camera with her, and doesn't own a mobile phone. She also knew nothing about Madeleine's eye at the time.
The most important things are that the car had false number plates, and her report was never followed through.

Even more intriguingly, records from the campsite show that the couple actually paid a supplement on arrival on May 6 for an ‘extra child’ having originally booked themselves in as one family.
Oh my.
“I deliberately went to look at the girl again the next day and she was wearing the same clothes as the day before even though it was 27 degrees heat.
That's wierd, too, most peculiar.

It is sounding like a replacement for a dead child. Please God, I hope so.
I have trawled my brain to try to understand why no body has ever been found. Paedophiles are not known for caring about where they dump their Victims. or for going to any great lengths to hide bodies.
This has been fulminating in my head for nearly five years now, which is why I go on hoping. It has never sounded like a Paedophile Abduction to me. Lots of reason, obviously, but we have been there and done all of those.

• KAREN SISSON INSISTS SHE SAW MADDIE ON A CAMPSITE IN CABOPINO THREE DAYS AFTER SHE WAS SNATCHED FROM PORTUGAL
EXCLUSIVE By Wendy Williams and Jon Clarke in Cabopino
A BRITISH woman is convinced she saw missing Madeleine McCann with a German or Dutch couple just days after she was snatched.
Mother-of-two Karen Sisson, 49, was so convinced she had seen the three-year-old on a Spanish campsite that she contacted police in three different countries to investigate.
According to Sisson, the mysterious girl did not speak and seemed ‘out of it and extremely removed from her family.’
She added that she looked confused and didn’t seem to socialise properly with the couple.
But despite filing a report with both British and Spanish police at the time, giving descriptions and a car numberplate, Sisson, who lives in Gibraltar, is certain the sighting was never investigated.
Intriguingly The Olive Press has now managed to locate details of a German family – under the name ‘Karsten Meyer’ – who did indeed check into the Cabopino campsite, near Fuengirola, three days after Maddie disappeared.
An easy drive from where Maddie went missing in Praia de Luz, in neighbouring Portugal, it would certainly have been a good place to lie low for a week, with few tourists at that time of year.
Even more intriguingly, records from the campsite show that the couple actually paid a supplement on arrival on May 6 for an ‘extra child’ having originally booked themselves in as one family.
They had a blue Mercedes Vita van and were towing a caravan.
A numberplate recorded by the campsite, which began ‘BE’ with five letters has not been used in Germany since 1974, although the first Vita van’s were only manufactured in 1996.
While photographic records of the car they were driving have now been deleted, a receptionist agreed the entire booking seemed ‘a little odd’.
“I don’t know why they wouldn’t have booked everyone in together in the first place,” said an employee, who was working at the campsite at the time.
“But this is the first we have heard about any possible Maddie sighting here and police have certainly never been in touch.”
It is this discrepancy that has so irritated Sisson, who this week once again contacted UK police investigating the case.
“There was something strange about it all,” explained the Durham-born artist, who explained that the couple were of slim build and looked to be in their late thirties.
“It was like the girl was alienated and completely different to her family. It really was most peculiar,” said Sisson.
“She was sat on her own, not playing but just standing swaying as if in a dream. She looked really out of it.”
She continued: “It was also strange that they also had two toddlers, with curly blond hair, eerily like Sean and Amelie.
“And there were children’s toys, a bike and rollerblades around the caravan for a girl her age, so I had the impression maybe they had lost a girl and seen Maddie and wanted to replace her,” she added.
“I deliberately went to look at the girl again the next day and she was wearing the same clothes as the day before even though it was 27 degrees heat.
“A mother would know that this was a strange thing as children of that age go through so many clothes and love to strip off in the heat.
“I have a little girl myself who is just a year older than Maddie; it makes me think about it even more.”
She continued: “At one point the girl started to move towards the pool to play with other children and the lady came and got her and lead her back by the hand.
“She obviously did not want her playing with the other kids.”
Sisson had been on holiday with her husband Richard, a buyer for an electrical business in Gibraltar, when she first set eyes on the girl.
So convinced was she that it could be Maddie she actually made a two hour round trip a week later to check the family out again.
“I literally could not sleep, it haunted me and I decided to drive back to have a second look,” she said.
“It definitely looked like her, and again I contacted Crimestoppers and even my local Gibraltarian police, but nothing seems to have been done.”
The campsite confirmed that a Karsten Mayer had stayed there from May 6 to May 18, 2007.
As well as confirming the car number plate and a date of birth from 1970, they were also able to furnish a passport or ID number.
The Olive Press is now trying to track down the couple and the information has been passed on to police and the family.
A spokesman for the McCann’s said: “This lady has done exactly the right thing in reporting what she saw to police.”
The information has been passed on to Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange, now probing the crime.
The new sighting comes just days after a woman claimed she saw Maddie McCann on a beach near Nerja.
Rose Johnson, 70, told The Olive Press, that she saw the girl two summers ago with a family very different to her.
Hers is not the first sighting in the Nerja area, and just two weeks ago Portuguese police contacted their Spanish counterparts to investigate some leads in the area.
“The whole incident was just so haunting it really stuck in my mind,” concluded Sisson.
“It would have been so easy for them to get to the campsite from Portugal. I am sure they could go under the radar.
“She could easily be on the Costa del Sol and they didn’t look like your average holidaymakers, but much more like expats who might be moving around.
“People have asked me why didn’t I just get hold of her, but you just don’t feel like you can.
“You also don’t like the idea of being caught taking photos.
“You want the police to do their job and not you having to do it for them.
“I really think she’s still out there, and I hope they take these new leads seriously and not just put them in a pile.”
Did you stay at that campsite in 2007? Can you help locate Karsten Meyer?

Google Translation
London / Fuengirola (Spain) - There was a brief glimmer of hope for the parents of little Maddie: A witness had reported to the British police and reported to have seen Maddie's disappearance shortly after an intimidated blonde girl in Spain - in the company of a German
Tourists family. But now seems clear that the suspicion against the family is wrong!
Witness Karen Sisson was then on a camping holiday near Fuengirola (Málaga in). On 6 May is a German family traveled with a caravan, she said, according to the British "Sun". Numerous media outlets, including BILD.de had reported on the newly sprouted hope.
When the family was a little girl was that wearing a pink T-shirt, shorts and a beige hat and acted entirely absent, the witness reported. With her blonde straight hair they have clearly distinguished from the other two children, two curly heads. "It was strange," said Karen Sisson in "The Sun".
Meanwhile came out: It was the family of M. Karsten (41) - a German who lives in Switzerland. Karsten M. admitted to BILD information meeting on Tuesday to have made in May 2007 with his family on camping holidays.
The girl who witnessed Karen Sisson thought Maddie was obviously Karsten Ms own daughter. It is the same age as Maddie. The other two children were among the heads of curls M. According to friends from Switzerland, who were there to visit.
Karsten M. remembers well that the campground was full time with wanted posters of Maddie. He himself was not until 18 May 2007 stayed there.
MYSTERY SOLVED BY CAR PLATE
Even the mystery of a no longer existing license plate was supposed to be solved now. The British "Sun" reported in error, the Mercedes Vito German holidaymakers have a license plate with the placemark BE - worn Beckum in Westphalia - one in 1974 pulled off the road placemark.
After image information was in fact but a Swiss license plates - BE stands for Bern.
Maddie McCann called, was on 3 May 2007 just days before her fourth birthday from a holiday resort on the Algarve coast in southern Portugal disappeared. Together with her parents and two younger siblings, she was there on vacation. Kate and Gerry McCann are looking for five years after her daughter's world and have never given up hope of finding them alive.

I've seen that, Rose; I cannot say I find it terribly convincing. It leaves rather a lot of unanswered questions, IMO.
And I am no more prepared to automatically believe German newspapers than I am British or Portuguese.

Never mind, it will stop the forkers and sheeples from asking difficult questions, and give the haters an excuse to hurl abuse at Ms Simmons.
I gather the vile Hindley Fan has been occupying herself stalking Ms Simmons' family - including children.
Scum, the lot of them.

Look at this pondlife:
Re: 3 new clues to Maddie Cops to check Costa sighting
almostgothic Today
OK Karen Sisson, you've had your 15 minutes worth of fame - you can fade into the background again after disrupting some poor innocent family's life. Happy now?
Still, there'll be a queue of Brit-abroad women of 'a certain age' just waiting to get their fizzogs in the papers, with or without help from 'certain quarters'. Heaven help families on their hols this summer.
NEXT!
That one is beside itself with rage because a woman came forward in the hope that she could help a missing child.
I wonder, would the forker threaten the woman with violence in real life? I doubt it, they're only brave with a keyboard to hide behind.
The more of these trolls that get the Laffin treatment, the better, IMO.

‘GROGGY’ GIRL IDENTICAL TO MADELEINE MCCANN SPOTTED ON A COSTA CAMPSITE
Wednesday May 9,2012
By Jan Daisley
MISSING Madeleine McCann may have been spotted days after her disappearance by a British holidaymaker on a Spanish campsite.
Karen Sisson, 49, says she saw a blonde little girl who seemed groggy and “out of it” wearing a pink T-shirt, shorts and a beige hat at the site on the Costa Del Sol, whose owners are now expected to be quizzed by detectives.
Mrs Sisson says the child she saw also seemed “alienated” from the family she was with – a middle-aged couple and two other children.
Madeleine disappeared shortly before her fourth birthday from a holiday apartment in Praia Da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007. The Cabopino Campsite, set in sprawling woodland between Marbella and Fuengirola, is 325 miles away to the east.
The couple with the girl as well as their own children are said to have arrived there three days later.
Mrs Sisson was staying in a nearby bungalow. She said the mysterious girl seemed “different” to the rest of her family and wore the same clothes for two days running despite the 80F heat.
She added: “She was sat on her own, not playing and just standing swaying as if in a dream. She looked really out of it.”
Mrs Sisson, originally from Durham, claims she contacted police at the time in Spain, Britain and Gibraltar – where she now lives – but got no response.
Details of the sighting have now been passed to Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange, set up to review Madeleine’s case.
The couple with the children are believed to have checked in for their near-two-week stay under the name Karsten Meyer.
Mr Meyer is thought to be German and was reported to be driving a blue Mercedes Vito people carrier with a number plate starting with BE, letters which went out of official use 38 years ago.
It has sparked concern that the number plate may have been fake because Vitos were first produced much later, in 1996.
Campsite records show someone using the name Karsten Meyer checked in on May 6 and stayed until May 18 with his wife and a child, not three youngsters.
But a campsite source said children under the age of two were not recorded.
Campsite manageress Tiscar Sanchez said: “I don’t recall anyone at the time raising concerns about any families on the campsite and police haven’t been asking questions about a Madeleine McCann sighting here.
“We make a note of the number plates of all vehicles that come in here and pass them on to police on a daily basis.
“We also send them the names of everyone who stays here over the age of 16. There’s six of us working here and we also make our own checks of the site every day. Madeleine McCann’s disappearance was big news here in Spain and I think we would have noticed at the time if someone had tried to hide out here with her.
“But we’d be happy to help out police if they contact us.
“We’re obviously as keen as everyone else for Madeleine to be found safe and well and reunited with her parents.”
The new sighting comes just weeks after it emerged Portuguese police had a tip-off about a Madeleine lookalike being spotted in Nerja, another Spanish resort 90-minutes’ drive to the east.
Spanish police were asked to look into that sighting but are believed to have drawn a blank. British holidaymaker Rose Johnson, 70, subsequently came forward to claim she saw Madeleine on a beach in Nerja two summers ago.
Spanish police made no comment on Mrs Sisson’s possible sighting of the missing girl.
And a spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police said they not had been contacted by anyone about a potential Madeleine McCann sighting in Spain.
A spokesman for the girl’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, said yesterday: “In this particular case the person did the right thing in going to the authorities at the time. It is now in the process of being re-examined by the Metropolitan Police as part of Operation Grange. It’s entirely proper that the police do that work as thoroughly as they can.”
Last month police released an “age progression” image of Madeleine to show how the little girl may look today at the age of nine.
Madeleine’s parents approved the image’s release because, according to their spokesman: “Kate sees Madeleine in it and she sees herself in it.”
He said: “They hope that it will lead to the breakthrough they have been waiting to see for five years.”

Thanks, Greenink.
There's something 'hinky' about this whole business; as I said earlier, I am no more inclined to automatically believe the German press than I am any other.
And the abuse that has been hurled at Ms Simmons by certain people is a disgrace to civilized society; I wonder if other people have been put off coming forward because they have seen the forkers and hounders in action and don't want their families targeted by the Gonc Fan Club?

Some dodgy reporting there either from Bild or from the Sun.
I am not sure from the original Sun article whether they used a stock photo or the photo of the car number plate is actually connected to the sighting. If it was a stock photo then maybe it was badly chosen.
How did Karen of Gibraltar know the people were German? Language? In which case they could have been Austrian or Swiss. Or from the car plate? In which case it would be clear to her if it was a German plate or Swiss. The plate in the Sun photo has the EU blue stripe on the left. No Swiss plate would have that. Either the Sun or Bild have it wrong. Its possible even both are wrong in fact.
These articles in the press show me two things only.
Firstly that there is shoddy journalism around and secondly that there is no way any sane person can rely on what they read in the press as being accurate.

It is very likely that some people have been put off, Bonny. Although what sort of mind that wants to abuse people who are just trying to help, is a bit beyond me. It is just plane spiteful and serves no purpose whatsoever.
