Re: Lisbon - Jail sentences for 'torture' cops confirmed
So, Gonc's latest lawyer thinks the pair of them should be left at large:
Police arrest two for assault may be delayed
The defense of the two police agents convicted of assaults on a young German student wants the police remain at large. And will invoke unconstitutionality.
The case of police beatings a German citizen, occurred in the summer of 2008, may not yet be over. The defense will rely on the two policemen, already this week, the unconstitutionality of the judgment of the Court of Appeal of Lisbon, which decided on Monday by the immediate arrest of officers of PSP.
The Express knows that Santos de Oliveira, a lawyer for the convicted policemen each, to four years imprisonment effective, will invoke Article 32. Constitution of the Portuguese Republic. This article states that 'process ensures all criminal defense guarantees, including resource'.
The goal is that the two agents, both currently in a state of sickness, remain at large. "They limited themselves to comply with the procedure that was adopted in that precinct at the time," argues a source close to the defense.
Santos de Oliveira took over the defense of the accused to two sessions of the end of the trial, the first lawyer by forfeit both.
The case dates back to the summer of 2008, when Adrian Grunert, German Erasmus student, was beaten in a police station in Lisbon, after being caught traveling on a hanging electric.
In a judgment with the date of Monday, that the Express had access, the Lisbon Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence of imprisonment of two effective agents of PSP, they have been applied in the first instance by "torture" occurred in July 2008.
For Carlos Undercover, the young German lawyer, "it appears that, contrary to what is usual, there was a collective of judges at first instance criminal who had the courage to impose a prison sentence effective - if supported by Judges Desembargadoras Relation - given the seriousness of the assault brutal, cowardly and free, in a Police station, by (four - two of them could not be identified) to police a young man who did not outline even the slightest resistance, but to refuse humiliation to undress completely before the aggressors. "

That sounds familiar - I seem to recall something like that happening elsewhere in Portugal....
Anyway, why is the 'police superlawyer' wasting his time on a pair of convicted thugs? He should be concentrating on writing Gonc's Grovel.

Oh, so it's normal to beat people up in Portuguese police stations?
And the 'source close to the defence' sounds awfully familiar. Not the 'police superlawyer who also represents Gonc and O Crime, perchance?

According to that argument, It's okay to beat up Suspects because everybody else was doing it. And from what we now know, everybody else was doing it too. So these poor, beleaguered Policemen have been deprived of a crime solving tool. And no doubt their Yuman Rites have been interfered with.

Yes, it's not unlike, We were only obeying orders.
I have to congratulate Gonc's 'police superlawyer'; he is giving the impression that it is standard procedure for the Portuguese police to torture people in custody.
Now, we know that isn't true, that these abuses are confined to a tiny minority.
It's Gonc's 'police superlawyer' who is trying to give the impression that everybody does it.

It's either that, Bonny, or it's, "These men are so thick and stupid that they can't solve any crime without beating the shit out of someone, and any old person will do."
Actually, that disclosure is so awful that I am shocked rigid yet again. And I hope someone sends that one to Amnesty International.
And I am not entirely sure that it is confined to a tiny minority. It sounds very much to me as though a bunch of middle aged thugs have been ruling Portugal.

Good; those two are now in jail. And the young German was tortured for travelling on a tram without a ticket - scarcely the crime of the century, is it?
Lots of eyes on police violence in Portugal now, aren't there?

Fancy doing that thuggery to a young fellow because he had no ticket.

Did he even deny having a ticket? The fact that he didn't must have been obvious. So this was gratuitous violence, and not even necessary to obtain a confession.

Agents began to fulfill largest penalty ever by police violence
ANA HENRIQUES 06/04/2013 - 00:00
Two police squadron of Bairro Alto, Lisbon, convicted of beating a young German were taken to prison Evora.
The two policemen convicted of beating a young German squad in the Bairro Alto, Lisbon, were yesterday taken to the Prison Evora to meet the highest penalty ever imposed in cases of police violence: four years in jail.
Everything happened in July 2008. Adrian Grunert, 23, a student of Linguistics in Portugal under the Erasmus program, took a tram in Lisbon with his girlfriend. He hung up the rear of the vehicle and moved on without paying. In the Conde Barao was grabbed by two agents and then taken to the police station. And it was here, according to the court, that agents using leather gloves, struck him several blows on the face, ears and temples. When he tried to flee, two other agents were placed in front of the classroom door. Once pushed, fell to the ground was trampled, got kicked in the back and chest. Laughed at him when he asked for help, says the judgment. He was forced to undress completely and put up squatting. Were with 0.2 grams of hashish. Barely out of Mercy, was the squad's Lapa pursue and then to the hospital where he received treatment for injuries on the body, a retroauricular bruising, abrasions on her elbow, abdomen and back.
The judges of the district court that reviewed the case found that, because they were committed by agents of the authorities, these acts of violence "put into question the very foundations of the state and the sovereign role of prevention and fight against crime". Hence they opted for a conviction exemplary: by the defendants having "betrayed so severe confidence that all citizens have the PSP."
The various actions brought to date by the legal representatives of the police confirmed the initial penalty. Your current lawyer, Santos de Oliveira, believes that a new appeal before the Supreme Court should have suspended the prison, preventing the final judgment of sentence. But apparently that's not what happened. The Unified Union of Public Security Police (SUP) had yet another resource.
Police divided
Opinions are divided on the effects of a shame as this exemplary conduct of the police. If a leader for the SUP, Rodrigues Peixoto, "this decision is severe for the community and police can jeopardize the performance of the entire PSP", as Paul Rodrigues, president of the Association of Professional Police Association, does not see things the Similarly. "We believe that whoever errs must be held accountable," he observes. "But when we make mistakes we are severely punished, whereas when we are victims of violence that is undervalued." He gives the example of a trial taking place in Lamego, in which the complainant, a policeman, was stabbed five times as he tried to prevent the beating of a child. "The attackers account for only bodily harm, incurring a penalty of up to three years in prison, although the agent has been with definitive ills." Paulo Rodrigues countered this frame criminal penalty of four years of the Bairro Alto police to claim that there is "some inconsistencies" between the two cases.
Already António Pedro Dores, the Association Against Exclusion and For Development, thinks the problem is every other, quite different. Underlining how the court devalued the testimony of the various agents who testified, never admitted that there had been use of force, which explains the consequences of the judges wrote in their judgment go beyond this particular case. "They said that if the police cover up each other and everyone knows it.'s Silence towards the PSP and the Ministry of Internal Affairs on this court's statement is deafening." The first instance judgment speaks of how the two men acted, "imbued with the dangerous sense of impunity that comes from the events occur under the usual smokescreen of a squad."
Portugal has not been well in the picture that the UN do in this kind of episodes respect, points responsible for the Portuguese section of Amnesty International, Teresa Pina: "The latest reports continue to show a significant number of abuse cases police forces. " Except the fact of not knowing if the case moved effectively judged on the same charge has an effort: "The more scrutinized and punished for this type of activity will tend to be more rare."

Everybody knows the Police are covering for each other. Of course they do. This is why they got away with it in The Cipriano Case. And then have cheek to convict her of false accusation.. I am never going to get over that one.

Best left to the Hounders and Haters. Although this is such a pity because it is a lovely country. But they don't even stop short of beating up old ladies. And this is utter degradation.

Bar brawl in Albufeira

15 JULY 2018
Four GNR injured in Albufeira bar brawl with British tourists
An alcohol-fuelled brawl in the Rock Time bar in Albufeira’s Avenida Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco, ended up with the arrest of five foreigners.
An estimated 15 British tourists started to fight in the bar, according to the official police report, and the GNR was called to the scene at around 23:00 on Friday night. July 13th.
Three members of the Public Order Intervention Group rushed to the bar and were insulted and set upon by the group, claim the authorities.
Soldiers from the GNR Territorial Detachment of Albufeira, who were in the area but off-duty and not in uniform, also tried to calm things down but were attacked by the British, states the GNR report.
Reinforcements arrived and soon dominated the angry scene by arresting five of the tourists, four aged 33 and one aged 30.
Five soldiers claim top have been injured in the fracas, three receiving medical treatment as a precaution should cases come to court. The five arrested men were whisked off to court the next day and were released with conditions.
UPDATE
Those close to the scene dismiss the official police report as inaccurate, claiming the bar users were just being noisy and were set upon by the police and dragged off, having committeed no crime.
A further comment on this report gave a different view, albeit unconfirmed at this stage, "Tazered and battered through the night every half an hour, driven to a house half an hour away and beaten!! These men did absolutely nothing wrong and even the locals and families around can vouch for them that they were completely innocent."

They have severe, brutal injuries and I can assure you no police were injured. Makes me wander how many other lies have been made to cover up police brutality in this country
