2 EXPLOSIONS AT BOSTON MARATHON - AT LEAST 6 HURT

Bloody spectators were being taken away from the scene where two loud booms were heard three hours after winners crossed finish line.

Many injuries were reported Monday after two explosions ripped through the crowd at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Witnesses said the blasts occurred in quick succession about 2:50 p.m. on Boylston Street near the intersection of Exeter Street, three hours after the winner had crossed the finish line. Some store fronts were blown out.

The Boston Herald reported at least a dozen injuries. Bloodied spectators were carried to medical tent intended for runners. Several of the injured has lost limbs, and at least one police officer was hurt.

Organizers immediately stopped the race and lockdown the marathon headquaters.

The elite women runners started the race at 9:30 a.m. and the elite men followed about 30 minutes later. About 27,000 runners were in the field for the Patriots Day race.

"There are a lot of people down," one man, whose bib No. 17528 identified him as Frank Deruyter, told the Associated Press.

Watching it on CNN, police say 2 dead and 22 injured. New York are on high alert as is Boston and now all major cities. Some hotels in Boston are being evacuated. One source says bomb unit have defused 3rd bomb, not verified yet. LL

It is bad. According to Fox, there are three dead and 20+ seriously injured.



The first blast was caught on camera. No sign of which particular bunch of cowardly scum did it.

Boston police say 2 dead and 28 injured. Vice Pres called it a bombing, but so far no official confirmation of this. Interesting that today is grandfather Kim's birthday, isn't it? White House in lock down, normal protocol; large area round the building cleared of people. Everyone waiting on whether they were bombs or gas explosions. CNN in 14 minutes time will be showing a press conference by police and fire dept. LL

Just speculating, but as there were two blasts, it was almost certainly deliberate, LL? Just for once, I doubt if North Korea is in the frame - it could be anyone from the Aryan Nation lot to the Al Quaeda mob.

Reports are coming in that other devices have been found, but it's all very confused. I don't think something like this has happened in the US in recent history, has it? I mean something aimed at pedestrians, rather than the Oklahoma City bomb?

3 dead, one was an 8 year old boy watching his father run in the marathon, over 140 injured. Many amputations, there were ball bearings and shrapnel found where the explosions took place. LL

Do you know Boston? I spent a month there while working in the USA, interesting city but I have to admit I preferred Philadelphia and Washington DC. What has happened is appalling, I hope they catch the bastards, but as Mass. is a no death penalty state the Government will have to pay to house the killers. LL

I do, LL. Was last there about a year ago. I am usually to be found outside of Boston, when in Mass, LL. There are some beautiful old towns there but, like you, Boston is not one of my favorite cities.

The two unexploded devices said to be found at the scene will be a treasure trove for investigators and may even still have fingerprints on them.

Thank God those two were found, before they could cause further carnage.

I don't know what to say. I hope that bloody Forker feels horrible, but I don't suppose she will. After all. she was only joking.

There seems to be little mention of this atrocity on the hate sites, Sabot. I suppose it would be too much to expect that their consciences are bothering them, because they have proved repeatedly that they don't possess such things.

A bit too close to home, Bonny. Best they keep their mouths shut I would think.

Latest is 176 injured and 29 leg or feet amputations. There were nails, pieces of metal an d ball-bearings in the bombs and they were probably placed low on the ground as it seems most injuries were to legs. LL

Some of the photos were just awful, LL, I was in tears when I saw what had happened to those poor people, who seconds before had been cheering on the marathon.
