You know, I cannot understand for the life of me how people can support, collect money for and publicly defend people like Gonc and corrupt cronies.

Damning Indictment
I understand there are some people who think in England Gonçalo Amaral is a good cop and a sincere and honest man. If so, then I want everyone to know this.
Sometime in 2009, Amaral embarked on a torrid relationship to subject a young mother, married Anne Bras. A very attractive woman, she admits that she fell in love with her so charming Amaral and good to talk, and believed that at first he was very hurt by McCann. However, it did not take long to realize the truth about the kind of man he really was, and she tried to end the relationship. Unfortunately, however, her husband, Jose, who was injured Amaral had moved into position in the marriage bed, avenged Amaral, beginning an affair with Amaral's wife, Sofia. A completely sad and complicated thing, from which no party can be proud, so I think we can all agree.
But what concerns here is the reaction Amaral of being rejected by his former lover, Anna. Being a man used to getting his own way, he will not accept. Enraged, Amaral began a campaign of intimidation against the family, calling them constantly, and instilling in them a level of fear for their safety and, in particular the safety of her daughter in two years. So great was their concern, wrote to the Portuguese Attorney General on two separate times, asking for his help and protection.
Finally, it was suggested to install a recording device to your phone in order to obtain the title terrorisation Amaral, threats and violence. One of these recordings has been released on the Internet, and is very alarming.
Once launched, on a forum a leading friend of Amaral, Joana Morais immediately made a terrible commotion, saying the tape was recorded illegally, and threatened all kinds of legal repercussions, if the administrator forum does not remove it. Since it is relatively easy to wind up a forum with a barrage of complaints of any kind, not just legal problems, the administrator, for your own peace of mind, moved the information to your blog instead, on which they have their own control. But the most revealing about protests Morais, however, was not that she complained bitterly about the illegality of the method of obtaining the record, but she never once tried to deny that the conversation itself was indeed true. That alone says a lot. Furthermore, it was then proved that once again, not the first time, Morais was clearly lying on behalf of Amaral, and that the recording was, in fact, quite honestly obtained, in accordance with our Article 34 Portuguese Penal Code, which states:

An act is not illegal when committed as a means to avert a present danger that threatens legally protected interests of the agent or third party, if the following conditions are verified:
a) The danger should not have been voluntarily created by the agent, except in case of protecting the interests of third person;
b) There is a marked superiority of the interest to be safeguarded against the interest sacrificed, and
c) It is reasonable to require the victim to the sacrifice of interest, considering the nature or value of the interest threatened.
So what was inside this record that Morais has caused such heartbeats?
The call begins with the touch, it Amaral call the husband of Ana. Amaral threat this man several times, there are also a lot of very sexually explicit language, this is mostly from Amaral, in this conversation he referred to the "ears" of a sexually explicit manner.
As mentioned earlier this is not the first time that Amaral has been calling this man or his wife, he did this several times before, every time you threaten and insult Anna Talking is very derogatory, not only for Ana Brás, but is demeaning to women in general.
The following is a very interesting return about money and houses. Ana and her husband own house.
Jose: I’ve my own house, and the house were you live is not yours but of your wife's, it is on your wife's name.
Amaral: The house IS mine, it is on my wife's name, but it was bought with MY money!
A return at an interesting point during the conference of Jose, however, involves Amaral's wife Sofia, saying that she only gets to Amaral, for financial reasons. This leads me to ask, what will happen when Amaral most certainly lose the defamation case to arrive, and all the blood money of his book is given, most rightly, the McCanns? How long, then, we wonder, Sofia is true to her man? But I digress.

Amaral. "I will put you down by kicking you and without needing to use my hands". In other words I can ‘arrange’ something, without getting my own hands dirty.
Amaral "Eu faço-te a folha quando eu quiser", which means, in English, "I sign your papers when I wish". In Portugal, "fazer a folha" means to harm someone through illegal methods. An example of "fazer a folha" is to plant false evidence, for example, drugs in someone's car to send the victim to jail.
Then comes the death threats.
Amaral "I will shoot you on the middle of your eyes". “I will shoot you with one of my most golden bullets. Do you know what is like to be shot in the middle of your eyes?”
This death threat, coming from a former police officer, trained in firearms, is one touch of extremely serious and alarming events. This is the main reason why Ana and her husband, who this time had seriously regretted their indiscretions to each other, and wanted nothing more than to be left alone to rebuild their relationship and marriage Amaral reported to the PJ and local police (they have a number of incidents and evidence) and also by Ana and Jose wrote twice to the Portuguese Attorney General, asking him for help and protection. They above all, fear that something bad will happen to her daughter, she will be kidnapped, or worse, and that would be made to look like they had been responsible for it. Both cases received extensive publicity here, so it is reasonable to assume Jose knew them, and was referring to Joana and Madeleine whatever he deduced that Amaral harmed a child. But something is still nagging at me.
I only have access to this unique recording. But the phrase "did not respect my daughter," along with "fazer a folha" still leaves me with a particularly deep feeling of unease. Amaral could have actually made that threat, to a helpless little girl two years old disappear, and leave him looking like the parents were to blame? Let's think about it. Two cases, two girls kidnapped. No body ever found, no evidence, no proof. A mother in jail, for a crime few in Portugal trust, the other suffering an apparently well aimed smear campaign from within the PJ. One common fact. Amaral. I can not answer that question.
But I can tell you this. Amaral is a disgrace to his profession and an embarrassment to his country.

Every time I look at CdM, I half-expect to read that Amaral has been taken into custody, Tony - no way is he not involved in this mess in Portimao.

Agree, Tony. I thought it was going to be over the review, and the mess Amaral made of the original investigations. And I know we've often discussed corruption in that area, but I don't think anyone expected revelations like these.
The scale of the corruption, and the sums of money involved, is staggering.

I confess, I've seen some of her artwork and I don't 'get' it. She is a genuine artist, though, with a long career.
Why Morais junior claims to be a 'film-maker' I don't know. One short video does not a Spielberg make.

The foundations of Portimão City Hall have been shaken by allegations of a multi-million euro corruption scandal which has resulted in the arrest of the deputy mayor, a councillor and three others. Following the arrests, Portimão, Mayor Manuel da Luz, said he has ordered an independent audit of the municipal company Portimão Urbis, which is at the centre of the furore.
Breaking a silence which had been kept since the arrests last week of two of his closest work colleagues, Portimão Mayor Manuel da Luz told journalists on Tuesday that an “immediate audit had been ordered of this municipal company.”
He insisted that the money transferred from the council’s coffers to Portimão Urbis had been accounted for and conducted in accordance with existing legislation.
“There is not a cent that was transferred from the council to Urbis without the required legal and documental evidence”, the mayor stressed.
Manuel da Luz refused to go into any greater detail, saying the case was covered by the country’s strict secrecy laws, adding however that he was “serenely awaiting the outcome of investigations” and that he “fully trusted the Portuguese justice system.”
The arrests of Deputy Mayor Luis Carito and Councillor Jorge Campos resulted in a makeshift reshuffle of the council, with José Sobral and Carla Pereira taking over the vacant seats.
In addition to Luís Carito and Jorge Campos, three other individuals were arrested on 19 June on charges of corruption, mismanagement of funds, money-laundering and criminal association.
Deputy Mayor Luís Carito remains in custody, with investigators saying this will continue to be the case until they are satisfied that releasing him on house arrest and with an electronic tag would not hamper further investigations.
A probable cause for his continued detention is that Carito had “swallowed a paper containing important evidence” which he ripped out of the hands of a PJ police detective upon learning of his imminent arrest.
His lawyer argued he wasn’t acting lucidly as he was confronted by police at his home “at 7.30 in the morning.”
Luís Carito is being held in a single cell in Lisbon.
Prosecutors say the five defendants had the common goal of “extorting money” from the municipal company through the signing of phantom contracts with private companies, amongst which was Picture Portugal. The company was back in 2009 in Portimão Town Hall said it could assist in converting the city into the ‘Hollywood of Europe'
Picture Portugal was the brainchild of Portimão Town Hall and the Algarve Film Commission, and plans were to build a cinema complex and a theme park at a total cost of 750 million euros.
Dubbed the ‘Media Park’, it was to have been built on 150 hectares of land alongside the Portimão Race Track.
The creation of a theme park, which would absorb 550 million euros of the total investment, was announced in conjunction with Universal Studios and would combine the “history of cinema with the motoring world.”
The American company currently has theme parks in Hollywood, Orlando and Japan.
Amongst investors put forward were CBS-Paramount, Universal, Fox, Sony and Warner Brothers, who were then expected to join up with Portuguese investors.
Well-known Portuguese-born Hollywood actor, Joaquim de Almeida, was unveiled as an ambassador of the project and was supposed to be the impetus behind obtaining part of the 25 million euros from American investors to secure the first phase of the building of studios at the Media Park.
One of the productions forwarded as a near certainty by Picture Portugal in 2009 was a remake of the Steve McQueen classic Le Mans, with Brad Pitt, Al Pacino and Penélope Cruz reportedly lined up as actors in the modern version of the film.
Shooting of the film here in Portugal never materialised.
Prosecutors are also reportedly investigating claims of illicit transactions involving the Portimonense stadium, which underwent major renovation work in 2010 after the club was promoted to the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
It has meanwhile also emerged that anonymous tip-offs were first received by police in 2011, expressing concerns over alleged illegal activities within the confines of Portimão Town Hall, and which extended to Portimão Urbis.

Deputy Mayor Luís Carito remains in custody, with investigators saying this will continue to be the case until they are satisfied that releasing him on house arrest and with an electronic tag would not hamper further investigations.
A probable cause for his continued detention is that Carito had “swallowed a paper containing important evidence” which he ripped out of the hands of a PJ police detective upon learning of his imminent arrest.
His lawyer argued he wasn’t acting lucidly as he was confronted by police at his home “at 7.30 in the morning.”
Luís Carito is being held in a single cell in Lisbon.
Prosecutors say the five defendants had the common goal of “extorting money” from the municipal company through the signing of phantom contracts with private companies, amongst which was Picture Portugal. The company was back in 2009 in Portimão Town Hall said it could assist in converting the city into the ‘Hollywood of Europe'
Picture Portugal was the brainchild of Portimão Town Hall and the Algarve Film Commission, and plans were to build a cinema complex and a theme park at a total cost of 750 million euros.
Dubbed the ‘Media Park’, it was to have been built on 150 hectares of land alongside the Portimão Race Track.
The creation of a theme park, which would absorb 550 million euros of the total investment, was announced in conjunction with Universal Studios and would combine the “history of cinema with the motoring world.”
The American company currently has theme parks in Hollywood, Orlando and Japan.
Amongst investors put forward were CBS-Paramount, Universal, Fox, Sony and Warner Brothers, who were then expected to join up with Portuguese investors.
Well-known Portuguese-born Hollywood actor, Joaquim de Almeida, was unveiled as an ambassador of the project and was supposed to be the impetus behind obtaining part of the 25 million euros from American investors to secure the first phase of the building of studios at the Media Park.
One of the productions forwarded as a near certainty by Picture Portugal in 2009 was a remake of the Steve McQueen classic Le Mans, with Brad Pitt, Al Pacino and Penélope Cruz reportedly lined up as actors in the modern version of the film.
Shooting of the film here in Portugal never materialised.
Prosecutors are also reportedly investigating claims of illicit transactions involving the Portimonense stadium, which underwent major renovation work in 2010 after the club was promoted to the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
It has meanwhile also emerged that anonymous tip-offs were first received by police in 2011, expressing concerns over alleged illegal activities within the confines of Portimão Town Hall, and which extended to Portimão Urbis.

It's the sheer scale of it that is so awesome, Greenink, it seems to be right through the whole infrastructure of the area.
As for eating incriminating documents - if you saw that in a gangster movie, you'd think it was too far-fetched.
I know! The Algarve Film Commission could remake The Godfather in Portimao, the Hollywood of Europe! The local officials would have no trouble getting in character.

Sofa must be disappointed though. She had the face lift in hopes of storming onto the silver screen several months ago. She may need another one by the time they actually get around to the production stage.
