Found the missing child alive since Sunday in Madeira. Was brought in near the house where he lived with his parents and where you have been left around three in the morning. The child disappeared on Sunday during a family lunch. At the time the Judicial Police left open all possibilities for this case. For now it seems that this is a case of kidnapping.

A child of 18 months reported missing since Sunday afternoon in the parish of Calheta , Madeira , was found alive today with the one taken by a worker of these irrigation canals .

Daniel was wet , but appeared to be in good condition and were subsequently transported to the Health Center Calheta to be observed by a team of health professionals.

Despite its appearance the Judicial Police will continue to investigate the disappearance of the child as it considers it very strange that this has survived a fall brought on where it was found .

It was also noted that the RTP where the boy is found far from the site of the disappearance - a long distance for a child of 18 months can be done alone , to which are Twins that the boy was met health three days after she disappeared .

The Judiciary Police ( PJ ) of Funchal yesterday stopped the search to try to find the child , a decision that left the family very angry baby .

" The police are doing a beautiful job . Are stopped waiting for someone to do something , but they do have to do , "said at the time the boy's father , Carlos Sousa .

After discontinuation of searches , little Daniel 's parents were taken to the premises of the PJ , which were heard for several hours .

It was anticipated that the searches were reactivated on Wednesday morning , at the request of the Judicial Police , who intended to broaden the scope of operations to try to find the baby .

BABY IN OBSERVATION IN THE HOSPITAL

The Hospital of Funchal , where little Daniel was transported to comment on Wednesday , convened a press conference for 11:00 , to give information about the state of health of the baby.

According to a hospital source , the child was admitted to the Emergency Service 9:30 a.m. in the hospital , " apparently well , with symptoms of hypothermia and is being evaluated by doctors of Pediatrics ."

Hmm. Suspicious, eh what. That's the parents off the table, and I very much doubt he walked or crawled 2 km, and stayed hidden for three days. Even The PJ must be able to see this.
Thank God he didn't fall in the water.

I always had the impression that Daniel was in Calheta. Anyway, I'm happy that Daniel was found alive.

The PJ haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over this, what with stopping searches, etc. I'm certainly not going to speculate about how the baby got there, I am just very pleased this one has had a happy ending.

I suspect the workman who found Daniel needed several rather large brandies once the baby was safely handed over!

BABY OBSERVED IN HOSPITAL

The Hospital of Funchal , where little Daniel was transported to observations , convened a press conference to give information about the state of health of the baby.

According to information put forward by Dr. Nelio Mendonca , the boy of 18 months reached that hospital in a medically stable , conscious, very cold and with a lusty cry situation.

The child was admitted by 9:30 a.m. in the ER of the hospital , which will remain at least until tomorrow to care of the Pediatric Service , announced the pediatrician Guilherme Luís Nunes , adding that the boy has no bruises or signs of violence.

Admitting it is " very difficult and intriguing," a child at the age of Daniel Little stay so long away from home subject to low temperatures and present this clinical picture , the pediatrician said that the baby continues to have tests and showing apetite.

Eighteen-month-old Daniel Abreu, the baby who went missing on Sunday afternoon in Madeira, has been found alive and well, not far from the place from which he went missing.

News reports coming in say the little boy was found this morning by an irrigation canal. According to Antena 1, it was not one of the places searched by police (who called off their hunt on Monday late morning, saying they had run out of places to look in), but close nonetheless to the house where the child had been with his parents.

The news comes after Correio da Manhã ran a two-page spread this morning saying police inquiries were beginning to centre on parental involvement in their son’s disappearance.

Details of Daniel’s condition have so far been sketchy. Jornal de Notícias reports that he is “apparently healthy”, while other news channels say he has been taken to hospital, but only to be checked.

I'm just glad the little boy has been found despite the PJ.

It seems to me the Portuguese police have a one track mind when it comes to missing children. Have a little looksee, if they don't turn up then stop looking and haul the parents in.

That baby was found despite their 'best' efforts, not because of them...etc.

I freely admit to being horrified when the PJ stopped looking for the child because it was DARK. Dark? They're the police, not a troop of Brownies.

Some search, eh what. If that baby had died from whatever, exposure, drowning or a bad tumble, how would the parents have been able to prove that they were innocent?
It is only by virtue of him being found alive that they can't be stitched up.

Yes, they've been spared any 'accidents' on those slippery police stairs, anyway. Notice how fast the CdM smear machine went into operation, though?

I am getting more horrified by the minute, Bonny. Anne Guedes is now trying to smear the parents because they were unemployed.
They are such hypocrites.
I swear that they are furious because it has been proven that a child can disappear in the middle of the day without anyone supposedly seeing anything.

Yes, I saw Guedes at it again. Shouldn't she be eagerly reporting from court or something? Or has it been postponed yet again - I thought today was the next hearing, but will happily be corrected. I've lost track of it all - and just about lost interest too, after Gonzo's last stunt.

Appalling practices by them. They are showing the world their abominable attitudes toward finding missing children.

Child found in wood was wet, cold and hungry

The man who found the morning boy of 18 months, disappeared in Calheta, Madeira, for three days, said the child was sitting in the forest, weak, wet, cold and hungry.
"The child was sitting, debilitated, was cold, I was hungry and wet", reported Lusa Manuel Teixeira, one levadeiro (men who control the distribution of irrigation water in Madeira), 61 and 40 work experience.

"I'm very happy. Glad to have found it, because it is a human being, a child who has no defense, can not defend anything," he declared.

Manuel Teixeira told Lusa that morning when he went with his companions to work in the Levada Lameiro in the upper part of Calheta (Madeira west), heard a "child crying".

"I told the others, it appears that a child is crying," reported levadeiro, adding that kept quiet and went back to hear the crying.

Then he exclaimed: "It is the small". Instantly dropped all the bags and parasols carrying rain and went to the woods to look for.

"We found little in the bush," he recalled, stating that the boy was about "30 feet below the groove in the middle of Feiteira and eucalyptus."

Then, "I called the police and took the small" he said, noting that the authorities gave her statement to "not touch it or wash it", so decided to take the child to the flow.

The child was in the middle of Feiteira, a distance of about 30 meters down the groove, but about 20 yards up a rail that will give the uncle Vicente, where, on Sunday's, disappeared during a family, brotherhood and which is roughly a kilometer from where it was found.

The boy of 18 months, who was missing since Sunday afternoon in Calheta, was found alive today morning and "clinically well" health in New Levada.

This watercourse has a total of about 79 meters long and is divided into two parts in the power plant of Calheta, one for Ponta do Pargo and another for the municipality of Ponta do Sol

The boy is under observation at the Hospital of Funchal.

The coordinator of the Judicial Police (PJ) in Madeira, Eduardo Nunes, told Lusa that "the latest steps, recent events may lead to think that this is a kidnapping."

The official assured that "remain open all possibilities." "The PJ will continue to investigate, while not solved this case," he said.

The levadeiro found that the child was one of the people interviewed today by the PJ, which continues to develop steps to determine what happened to the boy in the last three days and nights.

It does sound as if the child has somehow wriggled/crawled/toddled away further than anyone realised was possible?

Whatever happened, Snhr Teixeira deserves to be the toast of Portugal tonight - so good to have a happy ending for once.   

Rereading, it does seem Daniel wasn't actually that far from home....if he's been there all the time, I hope PJ heads will roll.

We all know what the script would have been if his rescuer hadn't come along.

Thank goodness the little child is safe and will be fully restored to health and his family quickly.

Dread to think what might have happened if he had been found dead.......

I do think that some elements of the PJ have a long way to go before they are up to par.

If that child has been there all the time, overnight, while the PJ called off searches because it was dark, then whoever was in charge deserves jail for dereliction of duty.
