So, who are Team Gonzo?

There aren't too many of them these days, and they're all tainted by scandals great and small.

Let's take a look at them....

Here's Hernani Carvalho....



Fingers in assorted media pies; frequently to be found lounging on Dear Julia's daytime telly couch. He's been in hot water with Portuguese legal authorities a few times for broadcasting privileged information relating to ongoing criminal investigations.

Or just making it up and then broadcasting it.

And then there's Paulo Sargento - or Mr Upside-Down Head, as he's sometimes known.



He too enjoys pontificating from Dear Julia's daytime telly sofa. Indeed, Gonzo was a regular there too, for a while.

Sargento's been involved in assorted judicial scandals, due to his fondness for passing on information he has gained whilst being a 'forensic psychologist' to his good friend Carvalho to broadcast.

He nearly wrecked a high-profile rape case by passing on client information to Carvalho without bothering to tell the REAL police.

He's a self-confessed leading light in Portugal's Masons, and has been involved in assorted scandals involving their abuse of power.

Not a very nice man - he longs for the good old days of fascism when the police could beat up and jail - well, anyone they fancied, without bothering about all that boring 'evidence' stuff.

He is also a blood sport fan, and played a large part in making the barbaric bullfighting slaughter acceptable in Portugal again.

He tried to get himself re-elected as Mayor recently, but failed. Sources say the voters were put off by his supporters' fondness for brawling on public beaches.

And now the pick of the bunch - Paulo Cristovao, best known to many for being a Smithman lookalike:



Like Gonzo, a former PJ inspector. His PJ career, too, ended under a cloud. He was CONVICTED of stealing €800 from the PJ, and rape allegations were made against him and later dropped.

Like Gonzo, Cristovao exploited Madeleine McCann by writing an even worse 'book' than Gonzo's, which the McCann-haters cling to  as if it's Holy Writ, despite it being garbage and the source of many forum myths.

After being kicked out of a missing children's organisation, Cristovao took up football. He descended on Sporting Lisbon, and proceeded to run it into the ground. He was kicked out of the club when the police started investigating his dubious activities.

He is now awaiting trial on a stunning variety of offences, involving bribery, intimidation, gangsterism, blackmail, etc.

Not the sort of person you'd like to meet on a dark night!

Gonzo does have a few other supporters in Portugal, but no-one of great importance. After all, who'd want to be associated with Ricardo (wanna see my truncheon) Paiva?

Gonzo has a handful of Useful Idiots, mainly female, ready to do his bidding when he wants his catastrophes suitably Spun into looking like triumphs, but real journos laugh at Citizen Bloggers and hounders that write for ex-pat newssheets.

Here he is cosying up to Team Gonc (US division) in the form of self-styled 'profiler' Pat 'Bushmeat' Brown:



She is best known for falsely accusing her lodger of being a serial killer, and being sacked from Fox, to the delight of all who saw it.

A fine bunch Gonzo has to advise, help and guide him! What could possibly go wrong?

In other words, he doesn't hang around with respectable people.   

When was the last time you saw anyone outside that crew defending Gonzo in Portugal, Lily? That's it, that's all he has.

Carlos Anjo occasionally pops up and mutters, but he has his own hide to protect over the likely fallout when the full extent of Gonzo's incompetence is revealed.

I haven't included convicted torturer Taveres de Almeida in there, he wouldn't even speak up for Gonzo at the libel trial, so Heaven knows what's happened between those two.

A fine bunch Gonzo has to advise, help and guide him! What could possibly go wrong?

Putting it like that, it's scary isn't it?             

What a ghastly parcel of rogues, criminals and misfits they are.

They're disgusting people, aren't they? But the McCann-haters idolize them, which says it all.
