Swiss media has reported that two Syrian nationals have been arrested in #Geneva with traces of explosives found in their car

'Refugees', no doubt.

They were terrified by recent events and thought they would be attacked in Switzerland no doubt.

The Euro 2016 finals in Paris will provide a "powerful response" to the Paris terrorist attacks carried out by so-called Islamic State, a senior member of the French government has told Sky News.

Speaking on the eve of the finals draw in Paris, four weeks to the day after the attacks that left 130 dead, Patrick Kanner, minister for youth and sport in Francois Hollande's government, said that France had a responsibility to host a great tournament.

He also urged fans of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to travel to France, insisting that security will be a priority.

"The Euro 2016 football tournament will be the biggest international event to be hosted in France next year. And so we must succeed in making these Euros the best, most powerful response of international solidarity, going against everything that Daesh represents in the world today," he said.

"I would like to say to all the British people, British friends: don't be afraid, come to France next year for the sport, for the football, to celebrate the friendship between all the people in the world."

French police knew Bataclan was the target since 2010

Previous threats have been filed.

Police and the French courts were aware at least since 2010 in a bombing threat against the Bataclan concert hall, the scene of one of the November 13 attacks, said Wednesday the newspaper Le Canard Enchaîné.

These threats, which gave rise to a judicial investigation - open to July 13, 2010 - and the prosecution and arrest of the main suspect, Farouk Ben Abbes, were filed and did not translate into any safety measures, according to the weekly, which it stated that even the owners of the Bataclan had not been informed of their existence.


Ben Abbes was close to the 'jihadist' French Fabien Clain, who is credited the demand of last month's attacks in Paris, on behalf of Daesh. The origin of the information about this threat to Bataclan show room is a bombing in Cairo, against a group of French vacation students, February 22, 2009, that killed a young woman, Cécile Vannier, and another 24 were injured.

Egyptian police detained several suspects, including a French Dude Hoxha, who was extradited to France, where he told the secret service agents who interrogated Ben Abbes had a "project to bounce the Bataclan."


A report that was later confirmed by a diary he had written while in prison in Egypt, in which alluded to the plans of Ben Abbes, related to the fact that the owner of the then Bataclan being Jewish and "finance the Israeli army."

The Bataclan was sold last September to the Lagardère group.

Absolutely shocking, Pedro - but how often have we heard this before? That authorities were supposedly watching suspected terrorists, but did nothing till innocent people were slaughtered?

The Belgian capital has cancelled its traditional New Year's Eve celebrations due to the threat of a terror attack.

Brussels mayor Yvan Mayeur told broadcaster RTBF: "Unfortunately we have been forced to cancel the fireworks and all that was planned for tomorrow (Thursday) evening and that would have brought a lot of people together in the centre of Brussels, following a risk analysis by the crisis centre."

Around 50,000 people were expected to attend the annual fireworks display in Place de Brouckere. The only event that will continue is the Christmas markets.

It comes after two men were held on suspicion of plotting militant attacks in the city on New Year's Eve....more at link.

Charlie Hebdo will release nearly a million copies of a special issue to mark one year since a terror attack in which a dozen people were killed in its Paris offices.

The 32-page double "survivors' edition" will include a selection of drawings by the cartoonists who were slaughtered by jihadists as well as messages of support from current staff members, according to AFP.

It will be released on January 6, almost exactly a year on from the attacks on January 7, 2014, when the provocative weekly magazine's offices were targeted by by two Islamist brothers.

The terrorists gunned down 12 people over the publication's cartoons satirising the Prophet Mohammed.

Following the tragedies the magazine became a household name and sold a record 7.5million copies and boosted its circulation.

It also inspired the phrase "Je Suis Charlie" meaning "I am Charlie", in the wake of the attacks.

Police in Munich are urging people to avoid train stations after receiving "serious information there will be an attack tonight".

With revellers in Germany about to welcome in 2016, officers used Facebook to inform the public of an "imminent threat".

Munich Police also tweeted: "Current indications that a terrorist attack is planned. Please avoid crowds and the stations."

According to the dpa news agency, two train stations have been evacuated - and services are no longer stopping there.

German police are hunting for up to seven people suspected of plotting suicide attacks on people celebrating New Year's Eve in the city of Munich.

Some 550 police officers have been deployed to hunt down the suspects and secure the city, with authorities warning that the threat remains "high".

A spokesman for German police told the AFP news agency: "We still have many colleagues deployed. There is, as before, a high threat of terror."

The suspects are believed to be Syrians and Iraqis, according to Munich's police chief Hubertus Andrae, but it is unclear if they are still in the city or even in Germany.

I expect they all had sad eyes when they were posing as 'refugees' and demanding to be let into Europe.

Amazing how things come back to bite you.....

Several people have been injured after a military patrol guarding a mosque in the French town of Valence, Drome, opened fire on a car that appeared to want to ram them, local media report.
The driver of the car did not stop after being told to do so, Le Parisien reports, so the patrol opened fire on the vehicle. The driver and another person in the car were injured.

Three soldiers were injured in the incident. According to Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France, the driver didn’t have his license with him.

There also appear to be injuries among the patrol and mosque worshipers.

One of the soldiers was hit by the car, according to an independent journalist at the scene, while a stray bullet hit a worshiper, the Dauphiné Libéré news outlet reports.

The driver has been detained. His motives are unclear.

That certainly seems peaceful......
