Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
Prior to signing the original undertaking, he received advice from a qualified solicitor, who offered to represent him for a fee of £5000. (ie some 16% of his free assets). He declined.
Tricky to argue "insufficient means".
Having broken an undertaking freely entered into, and continued to libel a grieving family, Bennett now wants free legal represenation.
What is the difference between this and a benefit scrounger?
IMO, it is actually worse, Jean-Pierre - Bennett has more money than most, but simply will not part with it.
And - he wasn't moaning about 'unequal firepower' when he and his hounders were on the loose in Rothley. Or when he was making up foul stories about the Smethursts, and encouraging people to stalk women and children. Or when he was hiding in Kennedy's shrubbery to take photos of his home, and security system - which he then gleefully posted on the internet.

Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
It does look like that, Maggs.
What I also find incredulous is that Bennett, having passed the law exams, comes off as though he doesn't know how serious Undertakings are.

I cant even do my sums now. £5000 out of £80,000 is actually 6.25%.
Did he and his followers really expect the McCanns just to take all the shit being thown at them without taking any action whatever to defend themselves?

I don't know what his final qualifications were to call himself a solicitor. LLlily wrote:It does look like that, Maggs.

Amaral expected them to so why not Bennett. I think he was pissed off because an earlier Court refused to charge The McCanns with Neglect, although if you think about it The McCanns couldn't be guilty of killing Madeleine and neglecting her at the same time.

I think that that is EXACTLY what they thought was going to happen, J-P. Furthermore, Gonc made the same mistake.
Why did they think the McCanns were going to put up with their lies, libel, stalking and abuse forever? Who would put up with it?
I would have been on the phone to my lawyers - and the police - a long time ago; I admire the McCanns' patience with these fruitloops.

Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
We know that he was a trainee with, was it, Lee Davies, Solicitors, LL?
If so, that's the one he tried to bill the client privately for, IIRC?

Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
He was an assistant solicitor with Lee Davies, ie bottom of the ladder. Later he went to another firm then decided to practice on his own. That much I do remember. But I don't believe a word he says anyway, so his 'qualifications' are something I'm not commenting on in case I should appear biased against him! ETA:
The Respondent had a training contract with Messrs Lee Davies & Co of Aymler House, Kitson Way, Harlow, Essex and was employed by that firm thereafter as an assistant solicitor from May 1995 to 30 September 1997. He then worked as a locum solicitor with AJ Bolton until May 1998, setting up his own firm as a sole practitioner, Bennetts, from his address of 66 Chippingfield, Harlow, Essex from 2 May 1998 to 31 October 1999.

Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
LL, what he did with that poor grandmother was wrong on every level, as I think you will agree?
It was clear, well to me, that he was clueless about law in relation to the issue which was why he said she didn't have a case. In earlier times he would probably have been disbarred for that or at least heavily censured.
That he billed the client of his employer in a private capacity was outrageous. In earlier times The Law Society would have had him disbarred for that.
He is amazingly bad.......

Does this mean that he ripped off a couple who were fighting Social Services to stop them taking their children away?

So he was ripping folks off 10 years before Madeleine was abducted. He's still ripping the idiots off that fill his bank accounts. Still some folks have more money than sense
When it says he was an assistant solicitor, I bet he just made the tea
So where did he gain his qualifications?. Me thinks pinocchio, never trained

In other words, he did that very early on in his *cough* legal career. What a guy. AJS Bennett. A man of integrity, honor, strength of character blah blah blah.

But they were still very vulnerable if they were having to fight Social Services for their children. They were probably desperate and easily coerced and just sent the cheques to Bennett when he told them to.
It might be a fine point but it still stinks.

He's one of those that would rob his own granny, Lily. Probably did, and his aged mother

can someone please either confirm or deny that the "silent night "parody which I have just found online was penned by Tony Bennett? Hopefully Mr B himself will reply to my post.
Let's see if he has the bottle to tell the truth and own up.

Re: BENNETT CLUTCHES AT LEGAL AID STRAWS
Probably a solicitor's clerk; also he was much older than the average age for a solicitor to be accepted into the profession, which is usually in late 20s, I read somewhere. LL

Oh he is, is he? Jeez I hope he don't give them advice like he's had.
So he's working? Then why does he want legal aid?
Have you noticed whatever Gonc does, Bennett has to do?
He could ask Lee Davies to act for him
