#mccann libel trial will resume on Wednesday Oct 2 - Madeleine's parents seek £1m from Amaral over his book claims they covered up her death
Wonder what Gonc's next excuse will be? The court's too far away for him to travel?

Re: Gerry McCann to attend Amaral's trial
Oh, look what someone, well, me actually predicted back in April:
https://jatyk2.forumotion.co.uk/t2988p225-gonc-fails-to-make-satisfactory-offer-to-mccanns
A rumour is going round the forkers that the libel trial is set for June or July. The Source of this vague tale is Morais, who has been caught telling whoppers for Gonc on more than one occasion, so it may well not be true.
And even if it is, that is right before the Portuguese courts break for the summer.
So no doubt Gonc's O Crime/'police superlawyer will be felled by galloping leprosy the day before the court is due to sit.
Or Gonc will accidentally drop his files in the Tagus.
He's bound to dream up yet another excuse not to go to court.

The child isn't ill, surgery had to be performed urgently and he needed his dad. Posters should have understood by now that Portuguese don't let down their children.
So, the 'child' isn't ill, but needed urgent surgery. If he's in surgery, what's his father supposed to do - or is he a surgeon as well as a 'police superlawyer'?
And the 'urgent surgery' just happens to be needed the very moment Gerry McCann arrives in Lisbon? Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
And she needn't bother playing the 'perfect Portuguese parents' card, either, or I will feel impelled to post up more sickening stories about familial child abuse in Portugal.
This whole excuse is bogus, everyone knows it, and no amount of spinning from Gonc's mouthpieces is going to change that.

AnneGuedes; why don´t you shut up. Posters should have understood that you are a insane freak.
it seems that you think in your insanity that you have the right to speak for the lawyer. grow up, you stink.

Re: Gerry McCann to attend Amaral's trial
My friends, this was taken from Correio da Manhã newspaper:
http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/nacional/portugal/gerry-mccann-quer-falar-em-tribunal
Gerry McCann want to speak in court
Maddie's father came to testify in the case against the former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral.
Maddie's father is this Friday in Lisbon. Gerry McCann came to Portugal as witness in the case against the former PJ inspector gonçalo amaral, in which, together with Mrs. McCann, seeks compensation of 1.2 million euros for the damage caused by the book 'The Truth of the Lie' .
Gerry McCann arrived at the Palace of Justice at 10.30am but did not even enter the courtroom. First because he was not enrolled as a witness - the application only yesterday was done and requires consent of the lawyers who defend gonçalo amaral and the other involved in the process - also because the session was postponed due to the incapacity of an attorney.
to The Morning Post, Gerry admitted that the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance of Maddie by Scotland Yard gave "new hope to the family" in solving the case.
Also his sister, Trish, was in court, where she would be a witness, but in vain.
The new session of the trial was scheduled for October 2.

Re: Gerry McCann to attend Amaral's trial
Thank you, Pedro. It is going to look very bad if the McCann family are not heard, as is their entitlement under the NEW law.
Of course, if Gonc hadn't pulled every trick in the book to delay the case, it would have been heard under the OLD law and this wouldn't have arisen.

It must be emergency surgery because GA didn`t seem aware as he went into Court.
Terrribly, terribly emergency, as according to Guedes the 'child' isn't even ill. Santos de Oliviera looks a bit on the old side to have 'children'.
Indeed, his unfortunate resemblance to an extra from Goodfellas is often remarked up. Maybe the stress of being a 'police superlawyer', whilst representing Gonc AND O Crime, has aged him prematurely?

Davel on Justice:
This is typical strategy used by guilty people. Delay, delay delay
Exactly. I actually don't see a UK court putting up with this - Gonc has delayed this case for YEARS with assorted stunts, and now this.
I suspect his lawyer would have been told to do his job and sort out his domestic arrangements - if a UK judge even believed this, on top of all the other excuses.

Madeleine McCann: Gerry's Evidence Stalled
Gerry McCann says he is disappointed he did not get the chance to give evidence because of a lawyer's family problems.
By Martin Brunt, Crime Correspondent, in Lisbon
Gerry McCann's bid to give evidence in his Portuguese libel trial has been scuppered after the hearing was suddenly abandoned for the day.
The judge agreed to an adjournment because a member of one of the lawyers' families had a medical issue.
Mr McCann was told the news as he arrived at the court in Lisbon after an early morning flight from the UK. He headed back to the airport.
He said outside court: "Obviously we are disappointed. If I get another opportunity to be heard I will be back and will answer the questions I'm asked."
Mr McCann and his wife, Kate, are suing ex-detective Goncalo Amaral over his book The Truth of the Lie, in which he claimed their daughter Madeleine died accidentally in their holiday apartment in 2007 and her parents covered up her death.
The couple insist Madeleine, who was nearly four, was abducted and could still be alive, but say the book poisoned public opinion against them and discouraged people from continuing to search for their daughter.
Until a recent law change, complainants in libel trials were not allowed to give evidence and even now need the judge's permission.
Mr McCann said: "The law has changed and I think Kate and I know better than anyone else what we have experienced and what we have gone through.
"Damage has been caused to the search for Madeleine. We are here for Madeleine and justice."
The McCanns are claiming €1.2m (around £1m) in damages from Mr Amaral, his publishers and the producers of a Portuguese TV documentary based on the book.
Mr Amaral was in charge of the case after Madeleine vanished from her bed in the Algarve resort Praia da Luz in May 2007.
He was taken off the case five months later after criticising British police and he eventually retired.
Portuguese police closed the case after a year without establishing any firm clues to Madeleine's disappearance or evidence of her parents' involvement.
Scotland Yard has spent two years reviewing the Portuguese police files and has identified 38 individuals "of interest" who they believe could be potential suspects.
British detectives are awaiting permission from Lisbon to begin collecting their own evidence.
The libel trial is sitting two days a week and is expected to finish in November after hearing evidence from the defendants.

Doubt if anyone except the Gonc cult believes this excuse. As far as anyone else is concerned,
Gerry McCann arrives at court - Gonc runs away.

Gonc was faster than a speeding bullet to defend his so called honor and write his book. He seems to have lost his enthusiasm for defending it in court.
Do you think the Judge might lean on the heavy side of the costs equation because of all this to-ing and fro-ing put onto the McCanns?

I don't have a farm ... but if I did, I would be tempted to bet it on Gerry not 'taking the stand' tomorrow
How long has this trial been in the offing ? ... two years ? ... three years ... longer ?
And now, at the 11th hour Gerry wants his name put on the witness list ?
I hope the Judge calls his bluff, and says, "Yes Dr McCann ... you may take the stand and be questioned under oath"
Someone's bluff was called, but it wasn't the McCanns. I do believe it was the rather unsteady scruff who entered court making thumbs-up signs.
I do hope that wasn't the signal for the txt about the 'emergency' to be sent to Gonc's lawyer?

Gerry McCann frustrated after libel trial is suddenly postponed
The father of missing Madeleine McCann has expressed his determination to give evidence at the libel trial of the police officer in charge of the case, after the hearing was unexpectedly postponed.
By Catarina Aleixo, Lisbon6:34PM BST 27 Sep 2013
Gerry McCann, 45, travelled to Lisbon with his sister Trish Cameron, in the hope of appearing as a witness in the case of Goncalo Amaral, the shamed detective they are suing for £1 million.
But as he arrived at the courthouse in the Portuguese capital, Mr McCann was informed that the hearing had been adjourned because one of the lawyers’ grown up children was unwell.
Mr McCann and his wife Kate launched a libel action against Mr Amaral over his book, The Truth of the Lie, in which he alleged they were involved in their daughter’s disappearance in May 2007.
Portuguese law used to prevent the plaintiffs or claimants from giving evidence in such hearings, but a recent ruling overturned that ban.
Mr McCann said despite the sudden postponement of the hearing he was determined to return and give evidence in the case.
He said: “If I get the opportunity to be heard I will come back. The law has changed and Kate and I know better than anybody what we have gone through, the facts of the files and the damage that has been caused to the search for Madeleine.”
The decision to suddenly postpone the hearing is the latest frustration for the McCann family, who believe Mr Amaral’s book badly damaged the international search for their daughter.
Previously Mrs Cameron and Mrs McCann’s mother, Susan Healy, had travelled to Portugal in the hope of giving evidence, only to be turned away when the Judge Maria Emilia Melo e Catro called off the trial citing “personal reasons”.
The former police officer’s lawyer, Vitor Santos de Oliveira, applied to halt the hearing on Thursday night, telling the court his son was in hospital.
He said: “My son is having an operation. I hope that because of this you won’t be making a hullabaloo saying that Gonçalo Amaral is holding things up.”
Isabel Duarte, the lawyer who is representing the McCann family said: “It’s not surreal, it’s Portugal.”
“I saw the request to adjourn this morning. The facts are that we have organised the trial and the lawyer was actually here, so I was expecting the trial today. I asked the judge to at least hear my witness.”
Mr Amaral’s controversial book was published in July 2008 claiming that Madeleine had died in an accident and her parents had hidden her body before faking her abduction.
The couple are suing Mr Amaral, his publishers and associated documentary makers for £1 million.
The trial is scheduled to sit again next Tuesday.

What a bl**dy farce! I thought UK courts were peculiar till this started. IMO, Gonc would never be allowed to pull stunts like this in the UK. It's unthinkable that his lawyer would be allowed to vanish under these circumstances.

They would definitely not be allowed to carry on like that especially when witnesses had travelled from overseas.
The planned surgery excuse would have been seen in a very bad light indeed.
It does appear as though Gonc and his lawyer are giving not the thumbs up to the court but the middle finger to be honest.

It's ridiculous, LL - I've never seen a shambles like it.
one of the lawyers’ grown up children was unwell.
How long did the clown who dreamed this up think it would take the UK media to find out that the 'child' was actually an adult? I bet most of Portugal knows.
Do these cowards actually think they're doing anything to help Gonzo - because they're not, they're just postponing the inevitable, and p*ssing off a lot of people along the way.
Still, at least we now know that Gonc is terrified to face Gerry McCann. Any bets Gonc tries to stop Gerry testifying? He seemingly objected to Kate McCann testifying, as well as wanting the hearing behind closed doors.
Coward.

But, but, I thought it was sudden and unexpected? They really do need to get their stories straight. And if he knew he was going to pull this stunt, why wasn't anyone told?
I do hope that's not why Gonzo was giving rather unsteady thumbs-up signs - he knew he'd got a reprieve.
