A judge in Lisbon has ordered Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral to reveal how much he earned from a book he wrote, claiming Madeleine McCann was dead and her parents were to blame.

Concalo Amaral must hand over receipts showing how much he raked in from sales of his 2008 book The Truth of the Lie.

The order was made during Amaral's trial for libel. Kate and Gerry McCann are suing him for £1m over defamatory claims against them.

The producers of a TV documentary must also reveal how much Amaral, 56, was paid to take part in it, the court ruled.

The Truth of the Lie remains unpublished in Britain because of its explosive allegations, which led to Amaral being discredited as a reliable source of insight about events surrounding Madeleine's disappearance.

It was released only three days after Kate and Gerry were dropped as suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine, one year after she vanished in 2007.

Former police chief Amaral claimed in his book that Madeleine died in the apartment block in Praia da Luz and that her parents constructed the disappearance narrative to cover it up.

He denies defamation.

What to say? The remains of Amaral's fortune at that time was sequestered by a Portuguese Court who must have thought it was necessary, perhaps given his reluctance to pay any of his previous debts during the year that was given to him before the sequestration.
This appears to be unprecedented in the history of any Libel Action. So obviously The Court didn't trust him.
Whether or not this will have any bearing on The Libel Trial does remain to be seen.
But there just isn't enough to pay The Mccanns what they are asking for. Although I doubt that The McCanns care too much about that.

We aren't hearing anything like the whole story of events in Lisbon, IMO, not least because the bulk of the evidence is in document form.

And we wouldn't be hearing anything except what Team Gonc wanted us to hear if it had been left to she of the Officially Edited Court Reports. There are chunks of key testimony missing, FFS, so the McCann-haters can carry on deluding themselves that everything's going swimmingly for Saint Goncalol.

Thank goodness the tabloids have been printing the testimony omitted from the Officially Edited reports.

343.900.67 euros after tax in a few months into his pocket, from those receipts alone, without TV, later sales, etc., is a huge sum of money to most people.

But they only care when The McCanns are spending Fund money looking for their daughter while still living in a big house, by their standards.

They don't care if Amaral is pissing large sums of money against the wall, probably because this is what they would do given half a chance.

I wonder how honest and hard-working Portuguese police officers, who are having such a hard time just now, feel when they see how much money that oaf squandered, after raking it in from a case he bungled?

How did he get away with it for so long? And why did he bother to do such a thing? Why did Amaral try to hide this?

This information is always recoverable from the people who paid him. It is all there in their records. So The Judge is sending him a message. "Don't mess with me."
How very stupid of him to have tried.
But I suspect that Amaral thought that he had The Court in his pocket, as he has done in the past. Silly, silly man. The day has come.
