UPDATE on the three libel letters from Carter-Ruck:

SMETHURST

Letters from Carter-Ruck sent by e-mail 4 August, Smethurst obtained secrecy order relating to Court documents in the case from Master Eyre and issued Libel Claim (= writ) 9 August, letter from Carter-Ruck making demands, I replied with counter-proposals which were not accepted, Smethurst issued Particulars of Claim 23 August but I didn't receive them until 6 September, I have until 3 October to file either a defence or an Admission of liability.

McCANNS

Letter from Carter-Ruck re McCanns received 15 August claiming breach of one of four undertakings given to the McCanns, also asking for around 50 articles and posts on Madeleine Foundation website and this forum to be removed; they all have been removed; the McCanns warned that they would issue formal Contempt proceedings but no such proceedings have yet been served on me nor issued (so far as I am aware)

KENNEDY

Letter from Carter-Ruck dated 2 September making 5 key demands, including removal of 10 articles on our website concerning him; these were removed on the same day as his letter was received. The letter also claimed libel damages. I intend to reply by the end of the week.

I was finally told by my home insurers on Friday that under my 'Legal Expenses Cover' they could neither provide me with representation nor advice on any of the above matters, as 'libel law is very complex and you need to go to a specialist'. I have contacted a couple of specialists and they are quoting £5,000 to £10,000 upfront merely 'to advise', let alone prepare any defence and represent me.

That's all I can say for now.

I'll advise him for free, Tony.

1. Shut the Houndation site and haverns TONIGHT - they are ten times worse than MM.

2. Issue grovelling apologies to everyone he has smeared, insulted and lied about.

3. Cease meddling in police matters, and stop interfering with ongoing efforts to find Madeleine McCann.

3. Make a healthy donation to the FindMadeleine fund.

4. Never, ever again say a single word about anything even remotely to do with the McCanns, their family, their supporters, ANYONE.

That is pretty much what any good brief will tell him and it costs nothing.

If he doesn't listen, he is facing ruin, and possibly jail.

It's his choice.

So, he has to either file a defense or an admission of liability in the Smethurst libel case?

I guess it will depend on the largesse of his benefactors as to how many they donate, possibly even first class.

Bonny, that is such a good idea. The Believers should hold some fund raising raffles and so on. The magnets might be a coveted prize if they can get ones similar to the one given to Gonc.

Well, according to Debs someone, he has £90,000 savings, Tony. If - and it is a big IF - he does, the wisest course of action would be to stop this nonsense NOW, close the sites, grovel, and make a hefty donation.

His hate campaign is over, anyway - he is a fool if he cannot see that.

He either stops NOW or he made to stop.

If Bennett's lucky they may merely accept a hefty donation to the Find Madeleine Fund. It's going to cost him a lot whichever way he looks at it.

Thanks for the update Tony. I am so appalled by these so called human beings. Smethurst & Kennedy very clearly have something to hide and are petrified of this getting out into the public domain & a lot to lose...we will find it

Find something that doesn't exist? How? With more lying, more smears, more filthy inventions about innocent people?

They don't seem to grasp that this is not some kind of forum game, that it is real.

We know he's not sane Tony because if he were, he could not have done what he has.

Having to fork out a large sum of money may be the only way he could voluntarily get out of this because he has shown himself to be untrustworthy. A sum large enough that he would never want to do the same thing again.

Of course, his only other option might be to get a shrink to state that he is insane.

If the people Bennett and co make up disgusting stories about don't defend themselves, it is because they are guilty.

If they do defend themselves, it is because they are trying to hide something, and are guilty.

It is a frankly disgusting mindset, and has no place in 21st century democracies which have any respect at all for the rule of law.

If Bennett has any sense he will shut his followers up. It is only going to make the victims more determined to take him down.

He won't though, Tony. For some bizarre reason, it's as though Bennett thinks he has solved the case or come close to it and that the people he accuses are scared as he is right.

They've always got an angle. No matter what innocent people do, it is either, or. Both of which will point to guilt. Even if irrefutable evidence of innocence is found they still won't believe it. I thought Witch Hunting on this scale had died out in The Middle Ages, but they do say that this sort of mind set is in the genes.

Anything Bennett has had to say about Mr. Smethurst and Mr. Kennedy is already out there, and thriving in some quarters. So what would either of them have to hide?
And since this Libel will have to be considered in Court, if Bennett is stupid enough to allow this to go that far, it will hardly be a coverup.

I just wish they would lock him up and force him to have Mental Health Treatment. But I don't think the powers that be are allowed to force Bennett to get treatment.

But hasn't this all rather debunk the claims that British Libel Laws are punitory. The entire system has allowed this spiteful d**khead every opportunity to back down.
