Mail: Internet troll who targeted McCanns found dead in hotel room

Thread concerning Ms Leyland's internet activities removed to private area.

Her family now have to deal with a bereavement. I'm sorry for them.

As are we all, Barbie. I think it's best if we leave it at that for now, tempers are running high and foolish things being said. It's a police matter, and best left to them.

There is nothing that can be said that will make this any better for her family, Lily, and those that are milking this tragedy for all they're worth, should be ashamed of themselves.

Let the police and coroner do their work, and have some consideration for her family.

I agree with comments above written.

No, nothing will make it any better for the family.  They must be devastated.  The professionals will get on with their work and report if necessary.

I do so agree that the people milking this, should truly be ashamed and stop it now.

It's utterly shameful, exploiting something like this to score points on the internet. But only to be expected, sadly.

As there is nothing any of us can say to make any of this one bit better, I am going to lock this thread, and only use it for news updates.

It might be a very good idea for the haters that are using this woman's death for their own ends to think on, and stop it. The police and coroner are more than competent to deal with it - the armchair detectives currently exploiting this tragedy aren't.

They do not even seem to realise that the deceased' computer/tablet/smartphone or whatever will be part of the police investigation, and the contents of that will enter the public domain, which will mean even more heartbreak for her family. The haters are deluding themselves if they think her family are not going to be shocked rigid when they see just what she was spending her time doing; the general public are NOT going to be sympathetic.

In the unlikely event that the haters have a shred of decency left, this would be a very good time to keep quiet and keep out of other people's business; none of this would have happened if they hadn't taken such delight in attacking and smearing innocent people, and exploiting someone's death for their own ends shows anything but respect for her family.

PS - A good place for the haters to start would be to NOT post that link to Sweepy's tweets. There is some vile stuff in there, if they bothered to read it, and some disgusting allegations made by her.

Quite. There was some appalling material in Sweepy's tweets which simply cannot be repeated in public; the haters are NOT helping by posting links to the archived tweets.

I think her tweets about Amy are the worst in many ways. Yes it is absurd that the tweeter basil could be Amy, but that's not the point. Brenda Leyland accused Amy herself of being a prostitute and posted up all her details even claiming Amy was now scared because of these details being posted. And this went on for ages, iut was not a couple of tweets it was a sustained campaign against a witness. I think her behaviour regarding the witness was far more likely to result in police questioning her than anything else.

Just a small sample of what is liable to come out after a full investigation by the police and coroner. And there was much worse than that.

THe attempts to justify this womans behaviour are beyond belief.

She was entitled to say what she likes - its her right innit
The tweets were not that bad.  
If they were that bad, others were worse so why was she singled out
She was a quiet shy vulnerable woman with mental health issues so she should have been left alone

etc etc

My personal view?  Probably quite a nice woman, but who had suffered a few disappointments (divorce, children perhaps, a bit lonely and unfulfilled).  She discovered twitter and facebook, and she got rather carried away with her new toy - a medium which allowed her to say whatever she liked about the McCanns and others.  Getting lots of approval from her enthusiastic new friends and abolutely no downside.  No possibility of anyone answering back.  A thrilling fantasy.

Her victims were not real - just figures in the news  - not flesh and blood with feelings and a family life - just cardboard targets.

Then Martin Blunt appearing, with a camera and the horrible clash of real life with her fantasy.  And the sudden hideous realisation that her fantasy life was about to become very very public - to her family, her village, her social circle.  And she could not cope with the impending humiliation, and flipped.  She simply could not face the public shame.

Incredibly sad.  For her children, her family and her friends.  She was quite literally the author of her own misfortune.

I sincerely hope she is at peace now.

To make things even worse, her new-found friends are now inventing stupid conspiracy theories. I am lost for words, though it was only to be expected that they would milk this for all it's worth.

If they had the slightest genuine respect for the deceased or her family, they would STFU until after the full inquest; they actually seem to be enjoying themselves, unfortunately, with one or two going that extra mile to try to make it all about them.

Shame on them!
