Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 1
I get the distinct impression that the EU leaders are in a different world from the rest of us, LL. It becomes more obvious every day that Schengen is as big a disaster as the eurozone, but Merkel and co just will not face reality.
Now, this could end in a civilised, organised manner, with the whole mess being disentangled in stages, thoughtfully.
Or it could end very badly indeed, with entire countries, like Greece, falling into the financial abyss, and fighting in the streets over these hundreds of thousands of moslem 'migrants' that are being imposed on small countries and the general population.
Politicians and lefty luvvies NEVER have to live with the consequences of their social engineering, unfortunately, so I fear that it is going to end very badly indeed. Every time the bien pensants call someone a 'racist' for not wanting to live alongside aggressive, uneducated moslem men - that's another vote for the rising Right wing parties; they seem blind to the potential disaster they are causing.

How Austria has become central to Europe's migration crisis
Hazel Southam in Traiskirchen
Friday 28 August 2015 08.48 BST
Last modified on Friday 28 August 2015 11.39 BST
Austria is the first western European country that migrants pass through. Here, some of them share their experiences
In recent weeks, Austria has found itself at the centre of the migration crisis in Europe. About 80,000 people are expected to seek asylum in the country this year – up from 28,000 people in 2014 and 17,000 the year before.
It is the first western European country that migrants pass through on long overland journeys from Iraq and Afghanistan, but mostly Syria. About 3 million people from the conflict-ridden country have fled the civil war. All must begin their attempt to be granted asylum at the Traiskirchen centre just outside the capital, Vienna.
Currently, about 4,800 people are housed in the former army barracks which has played host to refugees since the 1960s. But it was only built to house 1,000 people.
The high number coming across the border from Hungary means that many are now sleeping in the offices of the police training academy next door, and at least 1,500 people are sleeping in tents outside.
Amnesty International’s Heinz Patzelt recently described conditions at the camp as “inhumane” and “shameful”.
On a recent visit to Traiskirchen, the Guardian spoke to Mohammed, a 42-year-old perfumier, who had fled his home in Aleppo when his home, business and car were bombed. He had been at Traiskirchen with his wife and three small children for three weeks, during Austria’s heatwave.
“Everything was destroyed,” he said. “It took us 20 days to get here, walking and by car. We paid traffickers €2,000 (£1,450) to get into Turkey, €500 to get into Macedonia and Serbia and €1,500 to get here. We came because here there is a police force and you can speak freely. We want to be in Austria. But Syrians are the least important people here.”
Once through Traiskirchen, asylum seekers such as Mohammed face a lengthy process to discover if their application to stay in Austria will be granted. Even after that, things are difficult, as George, a 46-year-old printer also from Aleppo, discovered.
“I knew I had to find a way to leave Aleppo, when my five-year-old son saw an Isis fighter kill a man in the street and eat him,” said George. “Our house was on the frontline in Aleppo. Bombs fell every day. There was constant shooting and snipers were a real risk.
“Often we didn’t have electricity or water. My children ate mouldy bread that they found on the street. We lived in fear all the time. We didn’t know if we would live through each day. If we went out, we didn’t know if we would come back. At night we didn’t know if we would be alive in the morning. But we only left Aleppo when this happened, at the bitter end.”
During a 25-minute official cessation in fighting, George piled his family into the car, picked up a plastic bag that contained their documents and fled. By the time they reached a safe house, six hours later, the car was riddled with bullets.
But today, George and his wife Diala, 35, can’t get work. “The children will be at peace here, but we are lost,” he said. “We are not where we belong.”
Many Syrians receive support from a network of churches and Christian organisations. “There is a willingness to help people,” said Dr Jutta Henner, director of the Bible Society in Austria, which works with asylum seekers in Traiskirchen and across the country.
“The more local people come into contact with the asylum seekers and hear their stories they learn that it was no easy decision to come or an easy journey. We talk about this in churches all the time. We can help to change people’s minds about asylum seekers.”
But ahead of regional elections in Austria in September and October, the far-right Freedom party is topping the polls with 29% support, as Austrians say that “better security”, “foreigner problems” and “asylum” are their three greatest concerns.

I didn't know there were wars going on in Serbia, Turkey or Macedonia? More like there isn't so much free stuff on offer, and fewer churchy idiots with a death wish.
As the Right in Austria now has 30% support, I suspect this sanctimonious preaching is falling on deaf ears. As it is all over Europe.

Worth noting that assorted churches are also active in dumping Somalis in the middle of the US:

It will come as a surprise to no-one that they are now trying to turn Minnesota into Somalia.

Refugees Use Social Media As Journey Guide
Online pages and groups are valued sources of information for thousands making the long trek to seek sanctuary in Europe.
By Tom Rayner, Middle East Reporter
Syrian refugees fleeing war in search of a new life in northern Europe are increasingly using social media to guide them along their journey from Greece, through the Balkan states, to final destinations like Germany and Sweden.
Numerous private and public Arabic-language social media groups have been created in the last few months on Facebook and WhatsApp, which are now attracting thousands of subscribers and followers.
The pages and groups have become valued sources of information for people right the way along the refugee route, with thousands sharing information advising those coming behind them what to avoid, and asking questions of those in front about what to expect.

One popular Facebook group entitled 'Immigration and asylum to European countries for Syrians' has more than 16,000 members.
It appears to have been first created in September 2014, but is now updated multiple times an hour with users discussing all aspects of the journey.
Some post questions about the cost and safety of dinghy crossings to Greek islands from Turkey, prompting not only recommendations and tips from other users, but messages from smuggling outfits who use the groups to post mobile numbers advertising their services.
Other posts include photographs uploaded by worried relatives begging for sightings of missing loved ones.
One seen by Sky News showed the passport scans of an eight-year-old boy and his father from Latakia in Syria, who had not been heard from after going out of contact somewhere in Macedonia or Serbia.
A smaller Facebook group called the 'Hungary Operations Room for Syrians' focuses primarily on questions about how to cross from Serbia to Hungary and how to progress on from there.
A number of its users upload annotated border maps with roughly highlighted areas showing where people have successfully crossed.
:: Destination Europe: Row Brewing Over Human Tide
They also post images of men accused of being smugglers who have exploited people, warning fellow refugees not to deal with them if they approach them in certain towns.
aher, a refugee from Hama in Syria, spoke to Sky News at the Kanjiza refugee camp in northern Serbia.
He was among a huge group of people crowding round a small extension cable waiting to charge his phone.
He had not had access to electricity for several days and wanted to check social media before he made his next move towards Hungary.
:: Sweden's Tolerance Tested By Migrant Surge
Explaining how important it had become, he said: "We make groups using the apps and every time we pass a another stage we tell the others.
"We pass on information to them about where they might run into problems or places to avoid."
But there are those who are more sceptical.
Assad, a refugee from Homs in Syria, told Sky News he had used Facebook groups in the past, but had decided to stop because erroneous information was hindering his progress.
He said: "Facebook not good... Sometimes it tells you this is way closed, but you come and you see it's open, sometimes it says this way is open and you coming and it's closed and you see police."
Oh, the wicked police, stopping this invasion of Europe! Does anyone still doubt that this is organised and deliberate? Do all these fit, young moslem men have to be wearing uniforms before anyone wakes up?
And you can be sure that their FB groups are full of handy hints on sad stories to tell European social workers and these do-gooding church idiots.

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 1
This is a repeat of the sudden surge in immigration after the fall of the Soviet Union. Then there weren't mobile phones, access to websites etc but there were, as there are now, traffikers making immense profits from the misery of others. I am in close contact with friends in Budapest and Vienna, also with people living in Heygeshalom who want the border crossing facilities and patrols to Austria re-established NOW!! LL

IMO, it isn't quite the same, except in numbers, LL. The people suddenly liberated by the fall of Communism were all from similar cultures, with similar values to those in the West, who WANTED everything the West had to offer. They also had skills to offer and were prepared to work to improve their lives.
This lot? They hate everything about western social democracy, except for the free stuff. They hate gays, they hate women, they hate Christians/Jews/atheists/agnostics, and as soon as they get their feet under the table, they start trying to turn previously pleasant European cities into the same kind of sh*tholes they have left.
France and Sweden, with their areas the police will not enter, are classic examples.
In 1942, if hundreds of thousands of fit young Germans had suddenly turned up on British shores with a few children and women in tow for show, and announced that they weren't like those horrid Nazi Germans, oh no, all they wanted was free housing and free money, what do you suppose the reaction would have been?
I can understand your friends' concerns, LL. It goes against the grain to say it, but thank God the Tories were re-elected - Labour would have thrown the gates open and let them all in. I will admit to being none too happy with some of the SNP right now. Not all of them, but a few are showing moonbattish, tearful tendencies over this.
If this flood is not stopped, IMO, there will be NO European social democracies or welfare states left in ten years - they will have been sucked dry financially, and torn apart by rioting, etc.

Budapest Mayor contemplates closing transit zones for migrants as huge influx is expected
By Zoltán Szécsi
Budapest Mayor István Tarlós said it no longer makes sense to keep transit zones for refugees and other migrants open on Wednesday, while the spokesperson of the Migration Aid voluntary group warned of a huge influx during the week, hvg.hu reports.
Tarlós spoke about the possibility of closing the transit zones set up for the refugees at the three major Budapest railway stations on the morning program of commercial channel TV2. The mayor said the “optional service” of the transit zones “no longer makes sense”, as the possibilities for the refugees to travel on to Austria have worsened. It seems like Tarlós changed his mind during the day, as he later announced that a new transit zone will open in District VIII on the area of a former marketplace near the Puskás Stadium.
The mayor promised that the existing transit zones will not be closed right away, and the one at Nyugati Station will be open the longest, “to be kept on reserve.”
As opposed to Tarlós’s intention, Zsuzsanna Zsohár, the spokesperson of the Migration Aid voluntary group that helps refugees, proposed the expansion of the Nyugati Station transit zone. She told hvg.hu that the facilities are already there for migrants to bathe and wash their clothes, as well as medical help and orientation for the arriving refugees. However, they can only sleep on the ground or take shelter from rain at the waiting rooms of the railway station.
Zsohár also emphasized the urgency of the expansion as about 7000 asylum-seekers were likely to reach Hungary by mid-week, the big rise in their numbers caused by the partial closing of the border between Greece and Macedonia last week. They are expected to arrive at Budapest at the weekend after being detained in Szeged for two or three days, and an emergency situation should be anticipated in terms of human resources, food, water, clothing and other sort of material needs.

Gov’t proposes to tighten laws “in face of” migration wave
By Hungary Matters
Parliament is set to amend a number of laws in next week’s extraordinary session convened to debate fortifying border protections. Government office chief János Lázár said lawmakers will vote on amending the penal code to apply stricter penalties for human smuggling and expand the regulations on expulsion. Parliament will also amend the law pertaining to launching proceedings against illegal border crossers in order to speed up the process, adding that the laws on asylum and civil procedure may also be amended. Lawmakers may also pass laws on regulations applying to transit zones, he added. The bill on the amendment proposals will be submitted to parliament by the justice minister on Friday.
Based on events of the past 48 hours, the government considers that the army will be needed for defence of the border. Codification work to ensure the necessary legal conditions required for this measure is taking place, he said, adding, that amendments to the constitution would be unnecessary. An international agency will be hired to spread the word in transit countries and the migrants’ countries of origin that Hungary has closed off its southern border. He said the campaign was likely to cost “millions of euros”.

Re: Hungary is new hot spot on migrant route into EU - Part 1
Hungarians are a lw unto themselves. They've survived about 200 years of Ottoman rule, picked the wrong side in WW1 and lost most of their land as a result. In WW2 they supported the Third Reich, as the governent of the time wanted back all the land stolen from them in the Treaty of Trianon 1920. They then fell into the hands of the Soviets and had a go at breaking fee in 1956, failed but on good thing that came out of that debacle was Kadar Janos who actually made the country into what was described as "the happiest gulag in Soviet hands" - they were lucky in that the old ties with Austria were still there; there was much cross border activity between the two countries - smuggling of all kinds of commodities, and also aid to those trying to escape to the West. It was Hungary that opened the border with Hungary so the East Germans could flee to the West. Oh, and a footnote, at no time did the Muslim Ottomans destry Christian churchs etc; they converted them into mosques - on their departure the Christians converted them back to churches! Very pragmatic attitude on both sides. There are a few villages here where Ottoman descendants live happily with Christians and Jews. LLbb1 wrote:At least Hungary is trying to protect itself and its own people from this unfolding disaster, LL.
This is our Ottoman Church, formerly a mosque and before that a church.

None of this would be happening, not the deaths, none of it, if the likes of Merkel hadn't rolled out the red carpet for, well, just about anyone. Now, having invited the Third World to Germany, she's screaming because the rest of Europe won't take Germany's surplus.
If Greece had returned the very first boatload of 'migrants' to Turkey - where they were perfectly safe, in a moslem country - this wouldn't be going on in the east of Europe.
In western Europe, those bloody fools polishing their halos by 'rescuing' anyone they saw a mile off the Libyan coast and taking them to Italy have also made things ten times worse. They're no saints - they are the traffickers' best friends.
They would have been genuinely saving lives if they had fed and watered whoever they 'rescued' and taken them back where they came from. Because then, the message would have eventually got through that there was no point in paying money to risk your life.
Pathological altruism at it's finest - preen yourself on how 'caring' you are, while leaving other people to deal with the problems you have caused, all the while bankrupting and destabilising most of Europe.
