Re: Dis-United Kingdom General Election campaign officially kicks off
At heart, London policy towards Scotland has changed little in several hundred years, Sabot. We're tolerated if we're fulfilling their stereotypes and prancing round saying Och aye the noo and eating haggis, and generally staying in our place.
But God help us if we get uppity and object to being treated like this, object to seeing our nation's wealth, assets and best young people squandered by London. London is starting to show its claws now, that they hid last year under all that lovebombing.
Remember Cameron making a big show of flying the Saltire above No 10? The Saltire that, hilariously, fell down halfway up?

Bonny, I am getting too emotive over something that I can do nothing about. I feel like a bit of a pigs ear at the moment. But I am sticking my oar in on The Mail when the circumstances allow. And getting more Green Arrows than Red ones. So Scotland isn't alone in this.

I would love to see a lot of people outside the M25 corridor waken up, Sabot. I know northern England doesn't have such clear dividing lines as we do, like their own laws, church, etc., but they've been treated like a colony for generations, too.
As has Devon and Cornwall, though Cornwall now has Mebyon Kernow now to speak up and protect Cornish interests a bit, at least at local level.

Plymouth was always mainly Tory in my day. And what a bunch of wankers they turned out to be.
Cornwall was more still in the Poldark Era. Close the Tin Mines and forget about the peasants.

Oh, Cornwall's Cool now. Which means that local housing has been bought up by the chattering classes from London, which has priced Cornish people out of the housing market in their own home towns......
There is, I understand, a great deal of bad feeling brewing up about that and other matters.

Plymouth is just a cess pit now. I shudder at the thought of driving through there if I ever go to England.

It is, IMO, shameful that the chatterers and media luvvies should be buying these second homes, when the locals can't even afford a first one.
And then the second home lies empty most of the year, which means no income is generated in local shops, etc, so the shops close.......and on and on it goes.

When I was in practice in London I found it expedient to 'lose' my Orcadian accent and adopt an Oxbridge one, which, as I have a talent for mimicry, was quite easy. I never really 'took' to the English, whose snobbish attitude to the Scots, Welsh and Irish, let alone anyone who was a foreigner I found somewhat obnoxious. I didn't find the same when I worked in the US where my accent was totally unimportant as was my ancestry. LL

In fairness, it's not all English people, IMO, it's the Imperial Greater London area - remember that old saying about them all thinking the North begins at Watford? They're just as dismissive of Geordies, for instance, and take pleasure in sneering at Liverpudlians.

The SNP say "If you hold the balance, then you hold the power." They'd hold Ed Miliband to ransom. You can stop this by voting Conservative.
Jim Murphy @JimForScotland 52m52 minutes ago
@David_Cameron < You have demeaned the Office of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to become a desperate cheerleader for the SNP.

.@JimForScotland @David_Cameron you ok, hun?
You know it's bad when the leader of the Scots Tories is concerned for the mental health of the leader of the SLabs.
WTF is Murphy babbling about?

Yes, and I think it's going to be Jim Murphy, who is sounding increasingly deranged.....
Still, tweeting nonsense at Cameron is an improvement on SHOUTING - I seriously thought he was never going to get off the TV.

And that's all it needed, John Major raving about 'coups'. Labour must be about due to dig up Gordon Brown yet again, as they are all coming out of the woodwork now.

Oh God, they've dug up John Major - he who is best remembered for shagging Edwina Currie - to fingerwag at us about how evil we are.
Look, chum, it's only a few months since we had to suffer the Lovebombing, and media luvvies begging us to Stay cos they lovedhaving their second Hei'land Hames us so much. We narrowly Stayed; and partly because of the lying and cheating that followed from Westminster, we are now voting SNP in huge numbers.
It's called Democracy, so suck it up.
Being lectured by Major, of all people, can only raise the SNP vote even further.

Oh, that's better, Clegg is looking at boxes of fish somewhere, what a relief!
I am none too keen on lectures on how Evil I am from someone that sued magazines for alleging he was having an affair with the No 10 cook.
When all the time he was having sex with the vile Edwina Currie, and using the cook to cover up that affair:

Tories try a new tactic:
http://www.thenational.scot/politics/david-cameron-well-check-up-on-holyrood-to-make-sure-rest-of-the-uk-doesnt-lose-out.2217
David Cameron: We'll check up on Holyrood to make sure rest of the UK doesn't lose out
APRIL 21ST, 2015 - 12:30 AM GREG RUSSELL 3 COMMENTS
THE Tories have given up completely on Scotland, according to Deputy First Minister John Swinney, after David Cameron delivered another vow to Scotland – that a Tory government would conduct an annual review of Scottish devolution to make sure the rest of the UK “did not lose out”.
Cameron promised that a Conservative government would introduce an annual Treasury review under what he called the “Carlisle principle” to ensure that the actions of the devolved administration in Edinburgh did not have detrimental impacts on other parts of the UK in areas like air passenger duty, tax rates, university tuition fees or energy policy.
But Sturgeon warned him: “Let me say this to David Cameron – we will oppose any effort to undermine the Scottish Parliament.”
Swinnney added: “Last week the Tories abandoned the Smith Commission, this week they are attacking the Scottish Parliament,” said Swinney. “When the Scottish Government has balanced the books every year, it is insulting to the parliament to say a UK Government which has run up £1.5 trillion of debt should check our sums.
“This clearly shows why we need a strong team of SNP MPs to speak up for Scotland and to protect the parliament itself.”
Maybe Westminster should try living within its income?

Personally, I am very glad I don't understand politics - and am sure as hell I want my knowledge to stay as it is, zilch. But I do hope Scotland breaks away from Engerland. I will continue to remain ignorant and concentrate on my brand new PC and Windows 8.1, which I also hate!!!! LL

Re: Dis-United Kingdom General Election campaign officially kicks off
I usually try to let the insults and frankly racist abuse from Westminster wash over me, LL, but Major was downright offensive this morning - it's rare for me to have to actually change channels because my TV screen is in danger otherwise.
I am sure we can all do without lectures on how Evil we are from the likes of him - couldn't keep his trousers on in No 10, lied about it, let someone else take the flak, then made money from it.
Here's the thing - if Scotland is such a drain on London (I am trying to differentiate between our Imperial Masters and normal folk in England) why are they so desperate to hang onto us?
Remember, the SNP are NOT newcomers to government, they've been running Scotland for eight years now. They have stayed within the budget that is the pocket money London doles out from the revenue it takes from us, and just about uniquely in the world, they're MORE popular now than when they first took office. They don't get everything right, but they get most things right, and don't go out of their way to make people miserable, unlike London. They most definitely don't kick people when they're down, unlike the Tories.
Is London actually scared of competence? Of people that don't give a XXXX about the House of flaming Lords?
I don't know, but this morning's rant from Major revealed the hatred of Scotland that's been hiding under all the fine words and Love Bombing. And it was hatred, he couldn't hide it - I was fully expecting him to end with THAT verse of the National Anthem...
Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
and like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush!
God save the King!
