What ever was sequestered will have been held in an interest earning account. There is no way in which The McCanns could be awarded interest unless the money itself was earning interest. So this is not an additional fine. This is just logic.

So, the money is there for the McCanns.  Good.

Yes there is and there are two issues.

The McCanns can be awarded interest on the compensation, and this at the discretion of the court can be backdated to the start of legal proceedings to compensate them for loss of use of the monies owing.

Where the money has been invested in the meantime, and whether of not is accrued interest, is immaterial.

As a quite separate issue, the court has a duty to act reasonably, and Amaral can expect the money to have been placed in a secure account earning a market rate of interest for such deposits. This is likely to be low.

Thank you J-P.  I would expect the interest to be low because the funds would be placed safely.  The interest is really neither here not there but, as you say, the McCanns would have been earning interest on the money themselves.  

Nonetheless, there is still money in the account earning interest for Gonc even after paying the McCanns.  He is not such a poor broke person as some people make out.

So... unless anyone manages to find anything else, the fingerprint on the side /edge of a window turned out to be on the living-room sliding door and belonged to one of the cops there that night.

And that was known 2 weeks after the disappearance.
