Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
Apparently, there's a big demo in London today, which will doubtless involve the usual suspects wanting free stuff.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
It isn't just the US that is having elections; we are having yet more next week, oh joy! There are council elections in England, and elections in Scotland and Wales for their respective parliaments.
I don't think I am alone in finding it all a bit, well, meh.....the SNP are almost certainly going to be re-elected here, not least because the opposition are all so bloody awful. There's a bit of disenchantment with the SNP creeping in, for assorted Scottish political reasons, most of which incomprehensible to non-Scotland dwellers, but I think they will get away with it this time.
I have NO idea what will happen anywhere else, as Labour is in total chaos, LibDems are nowhere to be seen, and I haven't a scooby how things stand with small parties like the Greens and UKIP. Plaid Cymru may pick up a few more seats in Wales.
And then we have the EU referendum to look forward to. I don't know if I can bear the excitement. Honestly.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
There are yet more elections in the UK tomorrow:
I am none too sure why, but the public just aren't getting interested in them - maybe we're all sick to death of politics, and politicians.

Bonny, has there ever been a time recently when politicians were basically honorable moral men and women?

I have just seen this?

GOVERNMENT…BBC SILENT?

This could turn out to be one of the biggest political scandals in recent times as the Electoral commission has called in the police to investigate Tory election fraud by not declaring local expenses spent during the general election, and if correct, then this is a clear breach of the law and could see Tory MP’s go to jail. This scandal could bring down the government as the people and parliament itself could not retain any confidence in a Tory party elected based on fraud.
The investigation will centre around David Cameron’s fleet of “battle buses” that were used to ferry activists to key marginal seats, often putting them up in hotels, but the cost of which were allegedly not declared by the local candidates, many who are now Tory MP’s. So why is this not all over the BBC, especially the political programmes? Here is a snapshot of@BBCPOLITICS recent tweet counts…
This clearly shows that the BBC is working hand in glove with the Tory government to suppress news of a major electoral fraud scandal. If the Tories are allegedly willing to break the law to fiddle the results of a national General Election and have the help of the BBC to suppress news of the scandal, then there can be no doubt they would also have committed electoral fraud in the Scottish Independence referendum as many suspected, and as we all know, the BBC was vigorously supportive and biased in favour of the Better Together campaign.
Here is the clip from Channel4 News who researched and broke the story that could lead to criminal prosecutions.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
This is an odd one, Lily, and I honestly don't know what to make of it. I suspect something has been going on, for C4 to pick it up. I can't remember when I last watched BBC news; it's not just domestic politics it treats with noticeable bias.
IMO, it's a piece of nonsense that we have to have what is virtually a State broadcaster, anyway, and I resent every penny of the licence fee.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
This is still rumbling away:
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14474183.Police_probe_2015_general_election_fraud_allegations/
A police force has launched an investigation into an allegation of electoral fraud relating to the 2015 general election.
Read more: Tory election spending paperwork 'all done correctly', says Grant Shapps
Gloucestershire Police has confirmed that it is looking into an allegation it has received.
The force would not be drawn on which constituency or constituencies the allegation may refer to or even which party.
Read more: Voters turned away from ballot box due to council bungling
he investigation comes amid claims that the Conservative Party may have breached election spending rules in the run up to polling day last year.
The party faces allegations that accommodation costs of activists bussed into key constituencies around the country should have been recorded under individual candidates' limits, rather than as part of the national campaign.
The probe launched by Gloucestershire Police comes after the Electoral Commission met with police and prosecutors on Wednesday in a bid to ensure they do not run out of time to launch possible criminal investigations into Tory funding of the 2015 general election campaign.

The Commission believes its ongoing probe into alleged breaches of reporting obligations will take at least another month - taking it past the one-year time limit for launching criminal proceedings.
A Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman said: "We have received an allegation of electoral fraud and an investigation has been launched.
"We are considering an application for extension on time to investigate.
"This is in relation to the 2015 general election."
All very odd.

Re: Hopey-changey in the UK
So, the polls are closed. Oddly, there don't seem to be any exit polls, so no-one has a scooby what's happened. Just please, don't ask me to explain the d'hondt voting system used in Scotland, because I can't. Even experts in these things can't. I have NO idea which sadist dreamed this one up.

Well, that was an interesting night. Astoundingly, the Tories have Revived in Scotland, Labour has been thrashed everywhere, and the SNP have had a hard boot up the ar@e for taking the electorate for granted.

Good Heavens!
http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/667686/Ukip-triumphant-after-clinching-first-ever-seats-Welsh-Assembly
Guess who’s back? UKIP in historic Wales breakthrough as ex-Tory MP Neil Hamilton returns
UKIP made an historic breakthrough in Wales last night as the anti-EU party clinched their first ever seats in the Welsh Assembly.
With counting still ongoing this morning, Ukip has so far won six seats in the Cardiff Senedd.
The result heralds a return to elected office for controversial ex-Tory MP Neil Hamilton.
Labour appeared set to cling to power in Wales with 29 seats - ensuring their leader Carwyn Jones will be returning as First Minister - but the party suffered the shock loss of the Rhondda constituency to Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood.
Ms Wood’s nationalist party look set to finish second with 11 seats, the Tories in third with nine seats and the Liberal Democrats having so far won only a single seat.
It does look rather as if the UK - everywhere except Londonistan - is moving Right, though perhaps not as spectacularly as in Europe.

Someone on Sky has just pointed out that the last time Labour had an election result as bad as this in Scotland, women weren't allowed to vote....

Not certain yet, LL, they still seem to be counting, for some reason, but it does look like it's going to be Khan.
