It has been suggested to me that the large sums supposedly raised by the Go Fund me account may in fact be utterly illusory. It would be very simple for the person receiving the money to pass it on to someone whose role is to put it back in the fund in larger amounts. Collect a thousand in fivers send it on to somebody in Spain perhaps and then suddenly a whopping great donation of £1000 gets put in (well put back in really). Looks like £2000 has been collected. Great way to keep a fund buzzing along and the more is collected the more can be put back.

Now I am not saying that this happened in this case. Merely that it looks just as it would if that scam was being pulled on the mugs who were putting their money in at the base of the pyramid.


Even simpler if the same unknown person in Portimao is running both funds. The same money can be 'donated' - recycled - endlessly.

Not accusing, just sayin'......

I know neither of you are accusing but that theory is entirely plausible.

The GoFundMe account was set up to help the APPEAL. Once the PJGA deemed they had sufficient funds for the appeal they closed the GFM account.

The PJGA fund is still open for donations for any legal costs incurred in the future.

Nowhere have they claimed more money is very much needed, and in the future if there IS a need they will likely reopen a GFM account for that purpose. All donated money left over will go to a Portuguese Childrens Charity

Its a fund...they receive money and use it for legal costs. Can I just please clarify a few things to do with the fund for Goncalo Amaral please
The go fund me page only is closing NOT the PJGA official fund
Please note people are welcomed and encouraged to donated to this fund still as funds are still needed and any excess will go to the children's charities once all legal fees are paid
I've received this information direct from Portugal today from those involved in the fund
And there will be a press release soon confirming this
So please do keep giving via the PJGA site links to donate provided below

A few posts down, Hoho denies anyone has said money is still needed.

Sums it up nicely. The Scrounge Fund seems to have a lot in common with the Kids' Company crooks.

The GFM Page was set up because everyone, and The Portuguese were ignoring the original Fund. This was a major embarrassment. The Portuguese in general don't like or trust Amaral.

So what now? Will the morons go on donating to the Original Fund? Will any more real Portuguese people donate? Probably not.

Personally, I don't care, and I don't have sufficient disposable money to donate to anything. But I do wonder if any of this money has gone directly to Amaral for any past legal fees he has paid himself, if any.
Someone funded the original application, and according to the very suspect terms of The Fund, then it covers All Legal Fees, Past, Present and Future. So how much have they given directly to Amaral to cover his past costs?
Not that I care about that either.
