SCIENTISTS IN SWITZERLAND REACH WARP FACTOR ONE
Amazement As Particles 'Beat Light Speed'

A space scientist has told Sky News that there will be an "earthquake in physics" if it is true that scientists have proved Albert Einstein's theory of relativity wrong by breaking the speed of light.
Experts at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland believe they have clocked neutrinos travelling fast enough to shatter the central pillar of physics.
But they cannot quite believe it themselves, they say, because according to Einstein's famous 1905 equation, E=mc2, it is simply impossible.
"The feeling that most people have is this can't be right, this can't be real," said James Gillies, a spokesman for CERN.
Dr David Whitehouse, a space scientist and author, said that if the experiment is proved to be true then it is a revelation on a par with Einstein's own theories.
"It is an earthquake, a revolution in physics," he said.
"As soon as you are arrogant enough to think you understand the universe, the universe comes along and shows you are not right."

Re: SCIENTISTS IN SWITZERLAND REACH WARP FACTOR ONE
They have obviously been communing with The Nasties. Nothing more warped than that.
But on a more serious note. Nothing is impossible, we just don't know how yet. Speed is just speed, nothing to stop it becoming faster.
I do get the odd WTF moment which is pure glory. And then it is gone in a second, because I don't have the education to sustain it. Some people do.

I'm looking forward to the results of all of the re-checking. If it's confirmed, then .

I've been trying to follow the debates about it, Lily, and not neccesarily succeeding, as I didn't actually grasp Relativity to begin with...

:: The speed of light is described by the scientists at CERN as "nature's cosmic speed limit".
:: Albert Einstein's 1905 Theory of Special Relativity says that the speed of light is a constant - and that nothing in the universe can travel faster.
:: But if the CERN experiment was correct then scientists measured the neutrinos as travelling 60 billionths of a second quicker than light would have travelled the same distance
But if the speed of light ISN'T a constant, then it turns everything on its head...what we think of as the unbreakable barrier of lightspeed turns out to be as breakable as the sound barrier.
You wouldn't neccesarily want to break it every day, but it isn't impossible....
They explained it much better on Star Trek....

It sure would turn things on its head, Bonny It might even mean time travel, here we come.
