Twitter pledges to clamp down on trolls
As it enters its 10th year, social networking site reportedly plans to introduce measures to show abusers their actions have effects in the real world
Social media giant Twitter has pledged to clamp down on trolls once and for all, according to reports. Malicious Twitter users are said to be hampering the site’s efforts to be a frontrunner in the online news market, and its European head, Bruce Daisley, told the Independent that Twitter was committed to cleansing the service as it enters its 10th year.
Twitter reportedly plans to introduce measures that spell out to trolls that their undesirable communications have an effect in the offline world, as well as on the internet. By making it clear that trolls’ actions exist “in the real world” and encouraging victims to expose their abusers by publishing their names, it hopes to eradicate trolling and improve its brand.
Twitter has been valued at a reported £22bn, a fraction of rival Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg’s social media behemoth has over one billion users and is valued at £167bn.
A number of high-profile users, including celebrities and politicians, have closed their Twitter accounts after falling prey to trolls lurking among the site’s 320 million users. Labour MP Stella Creasy received rape threats from a man who was eventually jailed, while Sara Payne, the mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah, closed her account after receiving abuse.
Daisley told the Independent: “We have spent longer on user safety than any other thing. The measures have directly correlated to a reduction in the amount of bad behaviour.”

Re: Twitter pledges to clamp down on trolls
One of the absolutely scabby hategroup trolls has posted an astoundingiy ignorant rant, in the general direction of Jezza:
John Coxon

Dear mr Corbyn
I 'm never going to vote for you in a million years I'm UKIP if anywhere however I'd like to set politics aside and raise some concerns many thousands ,who don't in fact dwell under bridges and eat passing children have in regard to the Madeleine McCann case. obviously I only speak for myself but in general the grievances run like this.*libellous falsehoods redacted*
The hater then goes on to prove that he is indeed a troll by posting the same rubbish which the hate sites thrive on - smears, lies and forum myths, in other words.
If that's a sample of UKIP brainpower, no wonder they are in such dire straights!
And why would Corbyn be interested in a deranged rant from a non-supporter, anyway?

Re: Twitter pledges to clamp down on trolls
Why are they surprised when no-one listens to them? They are unpleasant, aggressive, lunatics. Also, if they bothered to do the slightest REAL fact-checking, they would know that the only places these things they rant on about happened is in their own sick heads, and Hoho's propaganda fillums.

Dorothy Anne Mistry The only sure way to attract media coverage is for all groups to join together with banners and arrange to meet and march in London to protest
Oh, please do that, pretty please, we need a good laugh!

One of Queen Hoho's lot:
Lynn Wilson

Has there never been a 'high up person' that has read and authenticated these files and passed them onto other 'high up people' that could do something with the clear evidence, or at least why have these files never been published by a newspaper? Dont newspapers like 'scandal'? Iv often wondered why they are only available online
Still hasn't dawned on them that the 'high up' people have read the REAL, FULL files, translated by accredited experts, not the Amateurs for Gonzo versions that are on the internet courtesy of *sigh* Duarte Levy.
And what 'scandal'? Anyone that imagines there is 'scandal' in even the amateur translations clearly hasn't bothered to read even them properly.

Well there IS a scandal, Bonny, and it is huge. Why was Gonc in charge of finding Madeleine?

It's always entertaining to see barely-literate haters claim to have 'read the police files', isn't it? What they actually mean is that they've watched Hoho's propaganda videos.

Fighting abuse to protect freedom of expression

We believe that protection from abuse and harassment is a vital part of empowering people to freely express themselves on Twitter.
Today, as part of our continued efforts to combat abuse, we’re updating the Twitter Rules to clarify what we consider to be abusive behaviour and hateful conduct. The updated language emphasizes that Twitter will not tolerate behavior intended to harass, intimidate, or use fear to silence another user’s voice. As always, we embrace and encourage diverse opinions and beliefs –but we will continue to take action on accounts that cross the line into abuse.
Over the past year, we’ve taken several steps to fight abuse in order to protect freedom of expression: We’ve empowered users with tools for blocking, muting, and reporting abusive behaviour, and evolved our policy to capture more types of abusive behaviour. We’ve also increased our investment in policy enforcement so that we can handle more reports with greater efficiency, and bolstered educational resources through a new Twitter Safety Centre.
One of the areas we’ve found to be effective in this multi-layered strategy of fighting abuse is creating mandatory actions for suspected abusive behavior, such as email and phone verification, and user deletion of Tweets for violations. These measures curb abusive behaviour by helping the community understand what is acceptable on our platform.
Keeping users safe requires a comprehensive and balanced approach where everyone plays a role. We will continue to build on these initiatives to empower our users and ensure that Twitter remains a platform for people to express themselves.

Love watching Columbo. The suspects remind me of the #mccann's and the intelligent Lieutenant of Amaral. "Who witnessed the abduction"?
Yet another hater that doesn't know that Columbo isn't a documentary.

£150 of kind donations to the search are at stake so I am sure the accounts will be filed before midnight.
Good accountancy/auditor peeps take pride in filing on time.
It's become a New Year tradition, hasn't it? Doubtless Fakelily will be doing her 'concern troll' spiel shortly.

Indeed, Lily...
WHY WON'T THE GONZO SCROUNGE FUND/S PRODUCE ANY ACCOUNTS AT ALL?
If they can't do that simple thing, they can't blame us for suspecting it's all gone on beer'n'shrimps for Big Rocky Rock.
