Re: Offshore accounts of world leaders exposed
Keeping money in offshore bank accounts is not illegal and both banks say they complied with all the necessary regulations.
I think that has to be kept in mind.....I am not jealous of rich people, and don't blame them for protecting their money.
It's the hypocrites I object to, the ones that lecture us, or get aid from us, or in the case of Iceland, claim to be holier than us.

Unfortunately, closer inspection seems to be revealing that the only names on that list are ones that George Soros, and the CIA aka USAID, don't like.
Where are all the rich Americans and dirty politicians?

Guido is enjoying the squirming of the offshore elite as much as anyone – the Icelandic premier is a corker, the Putin case study is great, the Bollywood stars who make their millions from millions of poor Indians will find it hard to survive the reputational hit. All very enjoyable.
It is worth mentioning that most of the UK’s big media organisations shelter assets and cash flows offshore. Top of the hypocrites in this respect is The Guardian. They put their assets in the Caymans, and they used a Luxembourg tax shell designed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers to funnel cash flows beyond the reach of HMRC. They previously blamed the difficult economic environment for committing the sins for which they condemn others. This isn’t just hypocrisy, this is an insult to us all. The Guardian’s entire heritage is one of tax dodging, the original founding Scott Trust was itself a tax dodge. They have year after year avoided tens of millions of taxes…
Other media organisations using offshore entities include the Huffington Post – whose journalists criticised Amazon for doing the same. The owners of the Mail, News UK and The Telegraph also have various offshore tax-efficient structures. Facebook, Google and Guido are not UK-owned though in the latter groups’ cases they have at least never claimed to be in favour of clamping down on tax havens. Guido’s point is that the likes of the Guardian should practice what they preach, hold all their assets in the UK and pay all the taxes which will consequently arise.
Quite.

Re: Offshore accounts of world leaders exposed
Exactly, Sabot, no-one in their right mind pays tax if they can avoid it, which is why the moralising from the media is irritating me so much. Especially when that very media is ALSO avoiding paying tax.
No, the only ones that interest me in this are the hypocrites. And I also find it interesting that there appear to be NO American names in this, no Goldman Sachs, etc.
You'll pardon me if I don't feel the need to jump on the Outrage! bandwagon over this flawed and somewhat biased 'leak', which is paid for by the CIA and George Soros.....

Re: Offshore accounts of world leaders exposed
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14417115.SNP_call_on_UK_Government_ministers_to_declare_tax_haven_links/
THE SNP has called on UK Government ministers to declare any links to tax havens following the Panama Papers tax avoidance scandal.
Angus Robertson, the SNP's Westminster leader, made the demand amid growing pressure on Chancellor George Osborne to say whether he had ever benefited from offshore money.
The huge leak of documents from Panama-based legal firm Mossack Fonseca revealed how high-profile politicians and their families used tax havens to hide their wealth and avoid tax.
David Cameron felt the heat from the scandal last week after it was revealed his late father had set up an offshore trust, Blairmore Holdings, in Panama in 1982.
They should be very, very careful what they're doing here - tax avoidance is not illegal. Anyone who has an ISA is avoiding tax.....
It's not as if Cameron has done anything really, really bad, like trying to flog Edinburgh Airport to Qatar.....

SELLING Scotland’s busiest airport to the rulers of Qatar was top of Alex Salmond’s agenda during a trade mission, secret papers reveal.
Briefing papers prepared by civil servants before the then first minister travelled to the Gulf in 2011 reveal touting Edinburgh Airport, then up for sale, was a priority.
The former first minister also tried to convince the oil-rich state, which has been attacked for its record on human rights, to invest billions of pounds in green energy projects.
Salmond insisted yesterday that, despite the sale of the airport being near the top of a list of priorities included in the briefing papers, he did not mention it to Qatar’s leaders.
The papers for Salmond’s visit to Qatar, released under freedom of information laws, detail his pitch to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the country’s leader until 2013.
Details come days after Chinese media revealed Nicola Sturgeon signed a £10billion investment agreement with Beijing and critics accused SNP ministers of being too eager to deal with questionable regimes.

I am extremely glad that I realised the SNP was turning into something rather unpleasant and left the party last year.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14417156.Revealed__the_top_secret_tax_sweetener_for___7_2m_Cairngorm_land_deal/?ref=twtrec
SCOTTISH ministers gave a major landowner a tax “sweetener” in a top-secret £7.2 million deal to buy a treasured ancient Caledonian pine forest in the Cairngorms, the Sunday Herald can reveal.
Rothiemurchus Forest, near Aviemore, was sold by its owner Johnnie Grant to the Scottish Government in 2014 for a “douceur price”. This meant that he was paid up to an estimated £1m extra under a controversial – but perfectly legal – capital taxation arrangement.
More than 200 pages of legal documentation released under Freedom of Information law show the deal was negotiated with an “unprecedented degree of confidentiality”. A non-disclosure agreement prevented internal experts, statutory agencies or neighbouring landowners from being consulted on the sale.
The potential purchase was discussed in private by a small group of senior officials within Forestry Commission Scotland under the misleading heading “Hydro Electric”. A team of estate agents and valuers on a four-wheel-drive tour of the forest in February 2014 were warned to dress so they “do not resemble a team of agents valuing an estate”.
A perfect example of the perils of throwing the first stone without thinking.....

Varoufakis ‘funnels thousands to offshore bank account
He describes himself as a Marxist libertarian but a lifestyle of glamorous photo-shoots, evenings in chic bars and weekends in luxurious island villas may have convinced the man who brought Greece to the verge of bankruptcy to become a highly-paid capitalist.
Yanis Varoufakis, Greece’s former finance minister, is allegedly charging almost £40,000 for speeches he is invited to make worldwide, seeking payment via an HSBC bank account in Oman, according to reports.

I just assume that they're all at it, Lily, so fingerpointing is a very dangerous business, and liable to rebound on the fingerpointer.
After all, if all these good socialists think people should pay more tax, then why do they never start with themselves, and send a big cheque to the taxman voluntarily?

http://order-order.com/2016/04/12/mcdonnells-14000-a-year-pension-managed-in-guernsey/
“There has been one rule for the rich and another for the rest of us,” said John McDonnell yesterday as he called on the PM to answer if he had “benefited directly or indirectly” from offshore funds.
McDonnell should have checked his own pension fund first - or even better, none of them should have started this deeply hypocritical witch hunt in the first place, as every single one of them is at it.
Corbyn published his supposed tax bill yesterday, but somehow failed to include his income from his lodger, or from Iranian state TV. Pots, kettles etc.

No, he doesn't seem to be, LL, but bear in mind the source of these revelations, and the fact that there are apparently NO US citizens involved - which I simply do not believe.
What, or rather who, has been omitted is most interesting. For instance, there is no mention of international monster and billionaire George Soros - but then, there wouldn't be, as one of his organisations helped fund these 'revelations'.
