JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel pressed forward with promises of retaliation and damage control Sunday following a U.N. vote last week on an anti-settlement resolution that passed thanks to an abstention by the U.S., Israel's close ally.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said it began summoning the ambassadors of countries who voted in favor of the resolution, including those from the permanent members of the Security Council — Russia, China, the U.K. and France. The U.S. ambassador was not being summoned because it had abstained and not voted in favor, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon.

IMO, he's justified, for once.

The UN being less than pleased over the settlements is one thing; wanting to hand the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem over to Hamas is an insult.

The UN is a bad joke these days, as useless as its predecessor.

I don't know which is worse, Lily, that the UN is just another arm of globalism, or that it's a talking shop.

I was appalled by that vote - not because I have any great brief for Netenyahu, or his government. But because it was such an obvious, nasty final stab in the back by Obama and that ____t Powers - she's another one that, if there was any justice, would be in the dock for war crimes.

Yes, Israel has been taking land that has been in Arab families for generations; I don't think much of that.

But the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem? Are the UN completely insane, that they think Israel is going to hand that over to Hamas terrorists?

The sooner Obama is out of office the better, his viciousness as January 20th draws near terrifies me.

Well, thank God much of the rest of the world is run by grown men, not spoiled children that don't even know who their own father was....

Putin will bide his time, as will Netenyahu and Sisi. And Trump.

I read an interesting article, which I failed to keep a link to..the gist is that the world is tired of sh*t-stirring losers like Obama, and useless 'leaders' like Merkel. The world is going to turn to the 'security men' - people who may not be particularly sensitive or progressive, but who will do their best to ensure you don't get blown up when you go to the grocer's.

Hand over the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem, which has been Jewish for a thousand years, through everything, to Hamas terrorists - yeah, brilliant idea, Obungle. No wonder so many people are convinced he's actually a muslim.

Sorry, I read this.  It would appear that it is more of Obungles threats and bullying.

http://sourcesnews.com/john-bolton-goes-for-obamas-jugular-reveals-the-real-reason-barack-allowed-anti-israel-vote/

When Barack Obama’s ambassador to the United Nations abstained from a vote condemning Israel at the global body, it was the final perfidy of a president who has alienated and bullied the Jewish state for the entirety of his presidency.
According to John Bolton — former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush and under consideration for a position in the Trump administration — President Obama’s intentions were even more devious than just knifing Israel in the back.
In fact, Bolton says Obama’s act was nothing less than an attempt to thwart President-elect Trump’s pro-Israel agenda before he even takes office.
In a Friday appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, Bolton said the abstention on the Israel resolution was perpetrated by the Obama administration in order to “box the incoming Trump administration in.”
“This was a stab in the back against the Israelis,” Bolton said. “It was entirely predictable. I would say this for people in the pro-Israel community in the United States who defended Obama’s Middle East policy over these last eight years: You should have seen this coming and this is what you get for supporting Barack Obama.”
Bolton said the president’s motives went far beyond the fact that Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won’t be exchanging Winter Solstice cards this year:

“I think this was an effort to box the in-coming Trump administration in, and it violates nearly 50 years of American bipartisan policy on the Middle East, going back to the iconic resolution 242 after the 1967 war,” Bolton said, referring to a United Nations resolution involving Israeli territory conquered after the Six-Day War.
The new resolution says Israel’s occupation of certain parts of its territory is “illegitimate,” according to Bolton.
“Therefore it has no land to give back in exchange for peace. Contrary to what the Obama administrationhas said, this puts a huge thumb on the scale against Israel.”
Speaking before The American Israel Public Affairs Committee while he was running for re-election in 2012, National Review points out, President Obama told the assembled crowd, “Is there any doubt that I have Israel’s back?”
Yes, there was certainly no doubt Obama had Israel’s back. The same way Marcus Junius Brutus had Julius Caesar’s back. The same way Fredo had Michael Corleone’s back.
The Obama administration’s betrayal at the United Nations — made all the more pusillanimous by the fact it was done after the election and right before Christmas, when the news cycle was dominated by Santa’s sleigh and not the parceling of Israeli territory over to the wolves of global antisemitism by a duplicitous president — oughtn’t be the afterthought he wants it to be, buried in the footnotes of his presidency’s history.
Instead, it should be his epitaph.
Eight years of broken promises. Eight years of division, mismanagement and feigned diplomatic powerlessness, all marketed under the catch-all banner of “hope and change.” And, as one of his final acts, he betrayed America’s closest ally in an act of utter cowardice.
“It was to be expected that Israel’s greatest ally would act in accordance with the values that we share and that they would have vetoed this disgraceful resolution,” said Israel’s Ambassador Danny Danon after the vote, according to Fox News. “I have no doubt that the new U.S. administration and the incoming U.N. Secretary General will usher in a new era in terms of the U.N.’s relationship with Israel.”
We know President-elect Donald Trump will try. What we don’t know is if it’s already too late.

Israel to do 'all it takes' to emerge unharmed by UN vote. Netanyahu starts saber-rattling Empty Re: Israel to do 'all it takes' to emerge unharmed by UN vote. Netanyahu starts saber-rattling

Post  bb1 Tue Dec 27, 2016 9:20 am

I don't personally think 'stand by Israel' is exactly the right term - Netenyahu does do some pretty dreadful things that he shouldn't get an automatic pass on.

But this UN motion is sheer malice; does the UN seriously think that the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem, and some of the holiest sites in Christendom, are going to be just handed over to Hamas and other terrorist groups?

Not going to happen. What's more, such an unreasonable motion actually plays into Netenyahu's hands because he will cause such an uproar over Jerusalem, with justification, that the fairer criticism over the settlements is overlooked.

Mind you, no-one in their right minds pays any attention to the UN nowadays, any high-minded ideals it had to start with have long since disappeared in an avalanche of corruption and power-mongering.

Israel to do 'all it takes' to emerge unharmed by UN vote. Netanyahu starts saber-rattling Empty Re: Israel to do 'all it takes' to emerge unharmed by UN vote. Netanyahu starts saber-rattling

Post  bb1 Wed Dec 28, 2016 5:32 pm

http://news.sky.com/story/kerry-defends-us-stance-on-israeli-settlements-10710389

ohn Kerry said that Israel was not interested in finding a two-state solution to its conflict with the Palestinians and "believe in one state: greater Israel".

Mr Kerry said the US would have been guilty of a "dereliction of duty" if it had vetoed the UN vote to condemn Israeli settlements last week.

And he added that just because the US was Israel's ally it didn't mean it would stand by and not do anything when the future of Middle East peace was under threat.

In his final speech on the Middle East peace process, Mr Kerry said: "No one thinking seriously about peace can ignore the reality of the threat settlements pose to peace.

"But the problem goes well beyond just settlements. Trends indicate a comprehensive effort to take West Bank land for Israel and prevent any Palestinian development there."

He added: "The settler agenda is defining the future in Israel. And their stated purpose is clear: They believe in one state: greater Israel."

Mr Kerry said that the only hope for the future was a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians and that the UN was right to condemn the building of settler homes in the West bank for the first time since 1979.

He said the US had acted in accordance with its values because it could not allow the idea of a two-state solution to be destroyed.

The US refusal to veto the UN vote was seen by some as a parting shot from Barack Obama to his successor Donald Trump, just weeks before the latter's inauguration.
...etc.

Jesus H. Christ.

Why is Mr Ketchup banging on about the settlements, which are an offence to architecture, if nothing else, and NOT mentioning this sudden desire to hand Eastern Jerusalem over to Hamas?

That is unthinkable. There's as much chance of that happening as there is of Russia handing over Crimea to the Ukrainian nazis, or the UK handing over the Falklands to Argentina, or the Channel Isles to France.

This is complete, utter wickedness, for the sake of causing turmoil.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/12/28/kerry-defends-us-role-in-uns-israel-censure-amid-backlash.html

Kerry further outlined what he described as “principles” that could provide the basis for new talks. This included a return to borders negotiated based on the 1967 lines “with mutually agreed equivalent swaps” – a position similar to President Obama’s stated position several years ago.

He called for “two states for two peoples” with “equal rights for all” and a resolution for Jerusalem as the capital of the two states.

He said the U.S. acknowledges Israel’s “profound historic and religious ties to [East Jerusalem] and its holy sites.” He further said he understands some settlements would become part of Israel in a future two-state solution.

An insult like that has to be deliberate.

Apart from anything else, no tourist that values his or her life will go anywhere near holy sites 'run' by Hamas. Indeed, having seen what islamic fanatics have done elsewhere, there is a very good chance all those sites would be destroyed.

http://www.breitbart.com/jerusalem/2016/12/29/exclusive-palestinian-official-discussing-another-un-security-council-resolution-white-house/

TEL AVIV – The Palestinian Authority has been in contact with the Obama administration and European countries about the possibility of taking more UN action on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before President Obama leaves office next month, a senior PA official told Breitbart Jerusalem.
The official said the UN action could come in the form of declarations by UN bodies, including the General Assembly; UN sessions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; or even another United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution. He said any further UNSC resolution would depend on the support of the U.S. and European countries after the upcoming Paris Mideast summit slated for January 15.

He said the UN action would seek to set the parameters of a future Palestinian state with a clear timeline for negotiations. If the action comes in the form of a resolution at a UN body, it could call for an infrastructure to establish mechanisms to enforce last week’s UNSC resolution, which demanded a complete halt to Israeli construction in the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem and declared those territories occupied Palestinian lands.

The PA official said the proposals set forth at the Paris Mideast conference will likely serve as the basis for upcoming UN action.

An Israeli official told Breitbart Jerusalem that the Israeli government is aware of the possibility of more UN action in the coming weeks, although the official did not have information about a new UNSC resolution.

The State Department would not provide comment to Breitbart Jerusalem when asked whether the Obama administration had been in contact with the Palestinian Authority about further UN action.

Instead, a spokesperson for the State Department pointed to Tuesday’s press briefing with Deputy Spokesperson Mark C. Toner at which Toner was asked about future action on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and replied that the Obama administration will continue to “work until January 20th.”

Astounding.

And what, pray tell, does the UN intend to do if Israel tells them to GTF? There were Jews in eastern Jerusalem before Islam was even invented, there's NO getting round that one. Oh, it's sanctions...

“Following in the EU’s steps, now the US recognizes that it’s Israel that sabotages the peace talks, and does so through its settlement enterprise,” the official claimed. “The motion is of immense significance – it validates all the decisions by the international community, chiefly the EU, to slap sanctions on Israel in the form of halting cooperation, halting the financing of mutual projects and expansion in scope of marking settlement products to all the products from every single settlement.”

Carry on, do, and watch Netenyahu become Putin's latest ally. Rolling Eyes

Anyone with only one brain cell can understand that Bummer is of the Islamic faith....which is why he does not protect any religion other than his own.  He should at least attempt to be impartial.....

I wonder what the UN will say when they find out they have only meagre funds from the US this year if it comes to that?

Obungle's latest antics have left many - me included - in NO doubt that he's a muslim, Lily. Everything he does is to protect them/benefit them.

Thing is, there's a huge contradiction in these demands being made of Israel. Israel is wrong to keep helping itself to land owned and worked by other people, as in those incredibly ugly settlements. (Are there no good architects in Israel?)

But by the same token, east Jerusalem has been Jewish/Christian for centuries; the only blip was from 1948-67. There is no justification for demanding that be handed over to Hamas; even the most moderate Israeli leader wouldn't agree to sign his nation's death warrant like that, and Netenyahu is no moderate.

I hope American Jews wake up and realise the Dems are not their friend, and it may take a generation for the party to repair the damage done by President Stompy Feet, Kerry, Clinton and the rest of the cabal.

Something very odd happened overnight; well, quite a lot did, but this one involves the UK distancing itself from Kerry's ramblings.

http://news.sky.com/story/us-state-dept-surprised-at-theresa-may-rebuke-over-israel-10711772

The US has criticised Theresa May after her office rebuked US Secretary of State John Kerry for comments he made about Israel.

Mr Kerry caused controversy when he branded the Netanyahu administration the "most right-wing in Israel's history".

In what Downing Street admitted was an unusual move, the Prime Minister's spokesman responded by saying it was "not appropriate" to attack the composition of the democratically elected government of an ally.

In comments which appeared more in tune with the outlook being taken by President-elect Donald Trump, Mrs May said it was wrong to focus on single issues like settlement building, rather than the wider peace process.

Earlier this week Mr Kerry accused the Israeli government of undermining attempts to reach a two-state solution to the conflict with the Palestinians by continuing to build settlements in the West Bank.

While the UK said it opposed such developments in the occupied territories, Number 10 made clear a more broadly ranged approach was needed to encourage peace.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister said: "The settlements are far from the only problem in this conflict. In particular, the people of Israel deserve to live free from the threat of terrorism, with which they have had to cope for too long.

"And we do not believe that it is appropriate to attack the composition of the democratically elected government of an ally.

"The Government believes that negotiations will only succeed when they are conducted between the two parties, supported by the international community."

The US state department reacted with similar vigour to the UK government's statement.

A spokesperson told The Guardian newspaper: "We are surprised by the UK Prime Minister's office statement given that Secretary Kerry's remarks - which covered the full range of threats to a two-state solution, including terrorism, violence, incitement and settlements - were in-line with the UK's own longstanding policy and its vote at the United Nations last week."

The UK backed the UN resolution passed last week that condemned the continued expansion of settlements in the Palestinian territories.

But the Prime Minister's spokesman told Sky News she was expressing concern about the language Mr Kerry had used.

Some are viewing Downing Street's move as an attempt to align the UK with the incoming Trump administration.

President-elect Trump, who made pro-Israel comments during the election campaign, responded angrily to the UN resolution, claiming on Twitter: "The big loss for Israel in the United Nations will make it much harder to negotiate peace. Too bad, but we will get it done anyway!"

Obama appears to be utterly friendless now - apart from George Soros. It's glaringly obvious the rest of the world regards him as a particularly stupid, nasty, lame duck.

PS - if he thinks Whitehall has forgotten the saga of Churchill's bust, he doesn't know much about Perfidious Albion. backstab
