NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
Israeli police question Netanyahu over corruption allegation.
JERUSALEM (AP) January 03, 2017 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was grilled by police investigators for over three hours at his official residence Monday night, opening what could be a politically damaging criminal investigation into suspicions that he improperly accepted gifts from wealthy supporters.
Netanyahu has repeatedly denied wrongdoing, but the involvement of the national fraud squad indicated questions raised about him are considered serious enough to merit an investigation. Police said Netanyahu was questioned "under caution," a term signaling that anything he said could be used as evidence against him.
Israel's Justice Ministry later issued a statement saying Netanyahu was questioned "on suspicion of receiving benefits from business people." The ministry said investigators also had looked into suspicions of campaign finance irregularities and double billing for travel expenses, but determined there was not enough evidence to merit criminal charges.

I seem to recall previous rumours to do with his wife and food bills?
It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of this, or if it's just political - the timing is convenient for some....

It's not new, rumors have been flying round on Israeli TV since mid-2016. His predecessor. Olmet, was also accused of corruption; after his resignation (or he may have been deselected) he was posecuted, found guilty and is, as far as I know, still serving a prison sentence. Israeli leader denies wrongdoing after police grilling
JERUSALEM (AP) January 03, 2017 — Israel's prime minister is denying wrongdoing a day after he was questioned by police for more than three hours over corruption allegations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on Twitter Tuesday that "there won't be anything because there is nothing," and decried "years of daily persecution against me and my family."
Police investigators grilled Netanyahu on Monday evening at his official residence over suspicions that he improperly accepted gifts from wealthy supporters. Israel's Channel 2 TV has said that Netanyahu accepted "favors" from businessmen in Israel and abroad and that he is the central suspect in a second investigation that also involves family members.
Netanyahu has portrayed the investigation as a witch hunt by a hostile media.

Re: NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/benjamin-netanyahu-israel-fraud-bribery-criminal-claims-questioned-investigation-arnaud-mimran-a7506156.html
The Haaretz daily said Investigators are looking into allegations Mr Netanyahu accepted €1 million (£850,000) from Arnaud Mimran, a French businessman currently serving eight years in prison for committing a huge carbon-tax fraud.
During his trial, Mimran claimed to have donated the money to Mr Netanyahu during the 2009 Israeli election campaign - something the politician has consistently denied.
Channel 10 TV has reported Mr Netanyahu's oldest son, Yair, accepted free trips and other gifts from Australian billionaire James Packer.
The main allegation would surely be simple to sort out one way or another, unless Netenyahu was given a suitcase of cash?

Oh, Hollywierd is involved, allegedly...
http://www.breitbart.com/jerusalem/2017/01/06/report-probe-netanyahu-focuses-cigars-champagne-hollywood-producer/
Haaretz reports: The purchase of alcoholic beverages, cigar boxes worth thousands of shekels, a regular and frequent practice funding the prime minister’s lifestyle – and the involvement of a key figure, in the person of businessman and movie producer Arnon Milchan (pictured).
These are new details that have been obtained by Haaretz about the police investigation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over perks that he is alleged to have received in the secondary of the two cases that the police are pursuing against him.
Haaretz has learned that Milchan, who is one of Hollywood’s most prominent producers and a man who owns a 9.8-percent stake in Israeli Channel 10 television, is allegedly one of the main individuals who purportedly bestowed the prime minister with gifts and other perks. Milchan has produced a large number of films, from “Dizengoff 99” in the late 1970s to “Pretty Woman” in 1990....etc.

Re: NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
Well, that's the problem, isn't it? I would have thought it would be perfectly simple to prove whether or not Netenyahu had been taking huge bribes, as you can't move that much money (except as cash) without leaving a paper trail.
Booze and cigars are, frankly, pretty small beer in comparison to taking $25,000,000 from the Saudis for your fake 'foundation'.....
Dunno; Israeli politics can be confusing.....

Re: NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
So would I, actually, and I don't greatly like Netenyahu. Given the way Obama meddled in the Israeli elections:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jul/12/obama-admin-sent-taxpayer-money-oust-netanyahu/
The State Department paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers grants to an Israeli group that used the money to build a campaign to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in last year’s Israeli parliamentary elections, a congressional investigation concluded Tuesday.
Some $350,000 was sent to OneVoice, ostensibly to support the group’s efforts to back Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement negotiations. But OneVoice used the money to build a voter database, train activists and hire a political consulting firm with ties to President Obama’s campaign — all of which set the stage for an anti-Netanyahu campaign, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations said in a bipartisan staff report.
In one stunning finding, the subcommittee said OneVoice even told the State Department’s top diplomat in Jerusalem of its plans in an email, but the official, Consul General Michael Ratney, claims never to have seen them.
He said he regularly deleted emails with large attachments — a striking violation of open-records laws for a department already reeling from former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s handling of official government records.
Mr. Netanyahu survived the election, and the U.S. spending was not deemed illegal because the State Department never put any conditions on the money. Investigators also said OneVoice didn’t turn explicitly political until days after the grant period ended
it's possible these allegations are false. Or they may be true - it's rapidly becoming impossible to tell what's real and what isn't.

Re: NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
http://news.sky.com/story/four-dead-as-lorry-rams-into-soldiers-in-jerusalem-10722091
A lorry rammed into a group of Israeli soldiers as they got off a bus in Jerusalem, killing at least four people and injuring many more.
A police spokeswoman said the incident was being treated as a "possible terrorist attack" after the truck veered off course and struck the soldiers who had just disembarked from a bus.
The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said all the signs suggest that the driver was a supporters of Islamic State.
She said the attacker, a Palestinian man, had been neutralised.
An Israeli bus driver who witnessed the incident said the truck ploughed into the soldiers and they fired on the driver who reversed direction and ran over them again.
He said: "They shot him, until they neutralised him."
He said the driver was killed and footage showed bullet holes in the truck's windscreen.
Israeli television stations said at least four people were killed and that about 15 wounded bodies were strewn on the street at the Armon Hanatziv promenade overlooking the walled Old City of Jerusalem.
Police said the four people killed were in their 20s and included three women and a man. Of those injured, one is in a serious condition.
Since last year, Palestinian attackers have killed 36 Israelis and two visiting Americans in a series of mostly stabbing attacks.

Re: NOT A GOOD START TO 2017 - NETANYAHU QUIZZED OVER CORRUPTION ALLIGATIONS
I know it's not directly related to the corruption allegations, but beyond killing four people, it's achieved less than nothing, because attacks like these strengthen Netenyahu's hand.
He doesn't even need to invent external enemies when terrorists are killing Jews on the very land Obama, Kerry and co. imagine he's going to hand over to Hamas....
