End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
PARIS (AP) February 22, 2017 — If Marine Le Pen has her way, the French will soon pay for their baguettes with francs, not euros. The presidential candidate from the anti-EU, anti-immigration National Front party is all about national sovereignty and independence. She wants France to take control of its money, subject to a referendum that would lead France out of the European Union and its shared currency.
But how would France pull off a euro exit, or "Frexit"? No country has left the euro since its creation in 1999. A number of economists paint dire scenarios in which the departure of one of the euro's 19 countries unleashes chaos: market plunges, controls on money transfers, customs officers stopping people carrying suitcases of cash out of the country, a plague of defaults and lawsuits on bonds and contracts.

She wants France to take control of its money
It's actually ridiculous that that should even be controversial, frankly. I don't see the EU surviving in its present form, it's got far too big for its boots and overbearing. It's turned into the USSR-lite, instead of a trading bloc.
This is going to be an interesting year...

After ditching the Euro, would local currency not find it's level sooner or later?

Yes, Lily, it would. Returning to the drachma is about the only chance Greece has, for starters.
There is, of course, one country which thrives because the struggling southern euro nations keep the euro artificially low. By an odd coincidence, it's Germany.

https://www.rt.com/news/378602-police-deploy-teargas-nantes/
French media reported earlier that radical activists, including anarchist groups, were traveling to Nantes from across the country. Public transport into the city through the main streets had been suspended on Saturday afternoon, while owners put protective paneling over shop windows.
The demonstration, comprising what authorities estimated as more than 2,200 people, began under the supervision of a police contingent of between 500 and 600, with several units bussed in as reinforcements from neighboring regions.
During the initial, peaceful part of the rally, activists carried signs bearing slogans saying “No to Le Pen” and “No fascists in our neighborhood,” though there were also cries of “Justice for Theo,” a popular slogan during the recent spate of riots in Paris that followed the alleged brutal treatment of a black suspect named Theo. Many of the activists also carried Communist symbols and trade union flags.
It appears that the clashes began after several participants launched several flares, covering the procession in thick smoke. Many in the crowd began chanting “Everybody hates the police!” At that point, a smaller group of mostly young male activists, covered head-to-toe in black track suits, with some armed with sticks, separated from the bulk of the protesters and began engaging the riot police.
Several hurled flares directly into the closed shields of the cordon, while others pelted officers with stones. There were also several running battles, with protesters coming closer and directly clashing with uniformed officers, before retreating to a safe distance.
Between that, and the ongoing riots in Paris, Ms le Pen will be dancing with joy.

Re: End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-france-election-lepen-eu-idUSKBN1671LR
European Union lawmakers "overwhelmingly" voted on Tuesday to lift the EU parliamentary immunity of French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen for tweeting pictures of Islamic State violence.
Le Pen, a member of the European parliament, is under investigation in France for posting three graphic images of IS executions on Twitter in 2015, including the beheading of the United States journalist James Foley.
Responding to a request from the French judiciary, the EU lawmakers in the legal affairs committee voted to lift her immunity, EU officials said. The committee's decision will have to be backed by the whole parliament in a second vote, possibly this week.
Le Pen's immunity shields her from prosecution; lifting it would permit legal action against her. The offense being considered is "publishing violent images," which under certain circumstances can carry a penalty of three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros ($79,650).
MEPs "overwhelmingly voted to lift Le Pen's immunity," said euroskeptic 5 Star Movement lawmaker Laura Ferrara. A Parliament official said 18 lawmakers voted in favor of removing Le Pen's immunity and three voted against.
Le Pen could not immediately be reached for comment...etc.
The EU are completely insane - or terrified of losing their cushy jobs. They seem determined to make Ms le Pen look BETTER - either that, or they want to see France go up in flames.

They'd better shut down the internet then, as the images are only a couple of mouseclicks away.

Re: End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
https://www.rt.com/news/379038-france-elections-fillon-charges/
French presidential candidate Francois Fillon says he’s received a summons from judicial magistrates on March 15 to face charges. Fillon has been probed over payments made to his wife. He denies all allegations against him.
“This is unprecedented,” Fillon said in a speech, adding that legal procedure hasn’t been followed.
Fillon also said he would carry on the presidential campaign, despite the latest developments.
"I won't give in, I won't surrender, I won't pull out, I'll fight to the end," Fillon said.
"Many of my political allies, and the 4 million people who voted for me call this a 'political assassination'," the presidential candidate added.
Fillon has been investigated over hundreds of thousands of euro paid to his wife, Penelope. A satirical newspaper called into doubt in January the fact that she actually did the work of a parliamentary assistant, as she was paid for. That was followed by a petition asking Fillon’s wife to return €500,000 of “falsely-earned” income.
The petition said that the amount “seems very exaggerated, since in different interviews you affirm to have ‘never been involved in the political life’ of your husband.”
The scandal has led to Fillon’s plunging in popularity ratings.
The latest opinion polls have been showing that Fillon, once a favorite of the presidential race, would lose the election, with independent candidate Emmanuel Macron becoming the leader of the presidential race, and far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen also among the leading candidates.
Looks like the globalist establishment want Macron to win.

Re: End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-03-01/french-protester-attacks-presidential-frontrunner-macrons-egg
ven as the frontrunner in the French presidential race, Emmanual Macron, who is reportedly catching up on Marine Le Pen in the first presidential round, is building a decisive lead over the National Front candidate in the runoff round, a protester today demonstrated his displeasure with the former Rothschild banker after splattering an egg on the head of the young ex-banker.
Macron was attending an agricultural show when a protester threw the produce at him, splattering the En Marche party member. The confrontation happened while France’s former economy minister attended Salon International de l'Agriculture 2017 in Paris. Footage of the incident shows the minister in conversation before being blindsided with the incoming egg. Members of his security team then rush to protect Macron and chase the food-firing protestor.
'Former Rothschild banker'. All becomes clear.

Re: End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/03/02/france-mass-migration-renew-society/
Maintaining that mass migration is inescapable and will only accelerate, former investment banker Emmanuel Macron said immigrants are good for France and bring “fresh bursts of creativity and innovation” to society.
The presidential race’s establishment candidate also asserted that problems in migrant communities have nothing to do with waves of mass migration but are due to France’s failure to integrate them properly. He also voiced support for positive discrimination in employment and ‘mixing’ neighbourhood demographics in cities.
Easy to say when you're a globalist Rothschild banker. Not so easy when you see your capital city going up in flames.

Re: End of the euro? French candidate plots return of the franc
Dutch politics is a bit of a mystery to me, so....
http://news.sky.com/story/dutch-election-pm-mark-ruttes-party-wins-most-seats-in-election-exit-poll-10803122
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's party has won the most seats in the country's election, an exit poll suggests.
Mr Rutte's VVD is reported to have taken 31 of the 150 parliamentary seats, or 21% of the vote.
Far-right leader Geert Wilders' PVV party is believed to have won 19 seats (13%).
This puts him equal second with two other parties - the Christian Democratic Appeal and the Democracy party D66.
Mr Wilders' 13% figure is a rise of 3% compared to his performance in the last election in 2012.
Coalition talks lasting weeks or possibly months are expected to follow.
The exit poll was conducted at 43 of the 9,300 polling stations across the country. It had a margin of error of two percentage points.
More follows...
I somehow suspect that Holland will tick along nicely without having a government for a while.

Maybe governments are over-rated? We managed without one when Brown and Cameron were fighting about who had won, and then there was your own Hanging Chad business.
It's the civil servants that keep things going, really.

'Several injured' after shooting at school in France
A shooting has taken place at a high school in the French town of Grasse, with police urging residents to stay indoors.
The French government has launched a terrorist attack warning following the incident.
Sources close to the investigation told the AFP news agency that several people were injured after the gunman intruded Tocqueville high school and opened fire.
BFM TV reports that the attacker was targeting the school's headmaster.

Sounds a bit more like a nutter than a terrorist, but news is just coming in.

Paris IMF explosion: One person injured in blast after opening parcel
Woman injured on hands and face a day after parcel bomb sent to German finance ministry
A woman has been injured after an explosion at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) offices in Paris.
French media reported that the person had opened a parcel addressed to a senior IMF official that contained an explosive substance, burning her hands and face.
A spokesperson for the Paris prefecture of police said: "An operation is underway for a person injured by a suspicious package with, according to preliminary information, a firework inside."
Investigators told BFMTV the device was a "large black cylinder, about 30cm long", with the blast so large the room's ceiling was hit by shrapnel.
Around 150 employees were evacuated from the building, in the 16th arrondissement, as a precaution and forensic officers were on site.
Officials said telephone threats had been made before the blast but it was unclear whether they were linked.
It came a day after a Greek anarchist group claimed responsibility for an explosive package found at the offices of Germany's finance minister, Wolfgang Schäuble.
"The package contained an explosive mix," Berlin Police said in a statement. "It was designed to cause severe injuries when the package is opened."
Just what was needed - disgruntled Greeks blowing up their German masters. Perhaps if everyone whistled Ode to Joy........?
