A director of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) told the Guardian “charged rhetoric online”, issued by the White House, “undermines the media in the US and emboldens autocratic leaders around the world”
'Undermines the media in the US'? After they've been caught red-handed making up complete sh*t to suit their political masters? The US media has undermined itself nicely without any outside help.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world-0/donald-trump-charlie-gard-help-tweet-us-president-uk-court-life-support-machine-operation-great-a7821236.html
Donald Trump has offered to help Charlie Gard, a critically ill 10-month-old who is being treated in London.
The news comes after a UK court ruled the infant's life support machine should be turned off.
In an unusual move, the US President tweeted, "If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the UK and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so."
The contentious issue has been covered by several right-wing publications, describing the court as a “death panel”, a chance to turn against publicly-funded healthcare.
Mr Trump has been accused of sending other tweets as “distractions” from wider issues such as the new health care bill that Republicans are trying to get through.
Under the President's tweet about the child, who has a rare genetic condition and has brain damage, right-wing commentator Paul Nehlen said that the case is "further proof that socialism kills"....etc.
This is just awful, IMO every bit as bad as Corbyn exploiting Grenfell. And yes, that is exactly the sort of deluded rant that is all over Brietbart and similar.
They're all about imaginary 'death panels', socialist medicine, and the baby being treated if he was a Moo Slime - I don't recommend those of a sensitive disposition reading any of it, it's all horrible.
If I let an animal suffer the way that poor baby is suffering, with zero chance of betterment, I would rightly be charged with cruelty. Trump's just pretending to care to score political points.

Charlie Gard: US hospital 'offers free treatment' to terminally ill baby after Donald Trump intervenes.
Judges have ruled that 10-month-old's life support machine should be turned off, but experimental treatment provides glimmer of hope.
A US hospital has reportedly offered to treat British baby Charlie Gard for free in a last-ditch effort to save the terminal ill child’s life.
It comes after Donald Trump intervened and said the US would be “delighted” to help the 10-month-old, who suffers from the rare genetic condition mitochondrial depletion syndrome, which causes brain damage and muscle weakness.
The unnamed hospital has reportedly offered to give the baby a new experimental treatment at no cost if he is able to travel to the US.
Charlie has been the subject of a lengthy legal battle after Great Ormond Street Hospital doctors proposed switching off his life support machine. His parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, challenged the decision but lost their battle when the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) refused to intervene, effectively confirming that the machine could be turned off.
Doctors have agreed to give the parents a few more days with their son.
The offer of help from a US hospital, reported by The Sun, came a day after Mr Trump wrote on Twitter: "If we can help little Charlie Gard, as per our friends in the UK and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so."
A White House spokesperson added: “Upon learning of baby Charlie Gard’s situation, President Trump has offered to help the family in this heartbreaking situation. Although the President himself has not spoken to the family, he does not want to pressure them in any way. Members of the administration have spoken to the family in calls facilitated by the British Government.
“The President is just trying to be helpful if at all possible.
“Due to legal issues, we cannot confirm the name of doctor or hospital where the baby could be treated in the United States.”
Charlie’s parents, who are both in their thirties and live in west London, have already raised more than £1.3m to take their son to the US for treatment.
In a video posted on Facebook, they said they felt “massively let down” by a legal process that has seen three UK courts and the ECHR rule against them. "We are utterly heartbroken, spending our last precious hours with our baby boy”, they said.
"We're not allowed to choose if our son lives and we're not allowed to choose when or where Charlie dies. We, and most importantly Charlie, have been massively let down throughout this whole process.”
Charlie’s doctors have said he is in “continued pain, suffering and distress” and that the experimental treatment in the US would “continue to cause significant harm” with little benefit.

But there isn't any 'hope'. The poor child's brain and other organs have been destroyed by this horrible genetic disease.
To put it coldly, he is as good as dead already, the life support system is just giving an illusion of life. I find this macabre and cruel, and I wish his parents would let the poor soul pass away peacefully.
And I also wish the God-botherers would STFU, instead of going on about 'miracles happening'. If their God is so wonderful, why did he do this to an innocent baby in the first place?

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
Apollo 11 hero Buzz Aldrin looks bemused as Donald Trump gives speech about space.
Donald Trump was flanked by world-renowned astronauts as he signed an executive order re-launching America’s National Space Council.
He was joined at a press conference by David Wolf, Benjamin Alvin Drew and, most famously, Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin – the second man on the moon.
But, as President Trump made a somewhat vague speech about the importance of exploring space, Mr Aldrin failed to conceal his bewilderment.
As the President took to the stand, he said: “We are going to lead again like we have never led before.
“We are a nation of pioneers and the next great American frontier is space. We never completed, we started but we never completed, we stopped. But now we start again."
Unaware of Mr Aldrin's pained expression, Mr Trump introduced him as an “American hero” before he appeared to veer away from the pre-written speech and talked, instead, about security.
Take a look at the videos etc at the link below. Priceless!!!! LL

'Sundowning' is a term often used for someone in the early stages of Altzheimers, or similar degenerative disease, who can hide it most of the time, but if they get tired at the end of a long day, it starts to show.
It would certainly explain why sometimes he is as sharp and energetic as Candidate Trump, but as President Trump, comes out with utter nonsense and looks his age, and more.

If treatment can help this baby, land Air Force One and send in armed guards and walk the baby on the plane. They won't have the guts to stop it.
If your armed thugs try to kidnap a dying British baby from a London hospital - trust me, you'll be stopped. Nothing says 'christian' like starting a gunfight in a children's hospital.

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
Well, that's at least do-able, if pointless.
Can you imagine the outcry if anyone did this to an animal, keeping it 'alive' to experiment on? Why not experiment on the parents, as it's them who carry the defective genes.
And these religious nutters somehow fail to grasp that God and Mother Nature have already spoken - it's Man that is dragging out this poor child's suffering.

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
Donald Trump backtracks on proposed cyber security unit with Russia after backlash.
Donald Trump appeared on Sunday to back away from a proposed cyber security unit that he had discussed forming with Russia's president Vladimir Putin.
The president had described a new era of co-operation with Russia as he returned from Europe on Sunday, outlining plans for a joint cyber-security unit to protect against election hacking.
In his first public comments on his meeting mr Putin at last week’s G20 summit in Hamburg, Mr Trump said he “strongly pressed” the Russian president on allegations of Kremlin meddling in the US election, but that it was now “time to move forward in working constructively with Russia.”
“Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded… and safe,” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter.
Hours later, however, he seemed to say the plan can't happen.
"The fact that President Putin and I discussed a Cyber Security unit doesn't mean I think it can happen. It can't-but a ceasefire can,& did!," he said, referring to a truce that the leaders had brokered for southern Syria.
The apparent U-turn came after critics expressed disbelief at the idea of working with the country accused of orchestrating last year’s cyber attacks in an effort to swing the outcome of the presidential vote.
Ash Carter, former Defence Secretary, said it harked straight back to the days of the Soviet Union. “When confronted with something they’ve done wrong, ask for US intelligence – old trick; propose a working group – in this case on cyber,” he told CNN.
“But this is like the guy who robbed your house proposing a working group on burglary: It’s they who did this.” However, Mr Trump delivered his verdict in customary, bombastic style after returning home from Hamburg where he met world leaders – using a slew of Twitter messages to declare victory and pour scorn on fake news and his political opponents.
“The G20 summit was a great success for the US. Explained that the US must fix the many bad trade deals it has made,” he wrote. It marks a now familiar style of Trumpian politics in which America’s president bypasses traditional media by offering his own analysis direct to his public.
Mr Trump’s trip to Europe garnered mixed reviews at home. While some lauded a presidential vision of Western values delivered during a speech in Warsaw, others said the G20 demonstrated a growing gulf between an isolationist America and the rest of the world on matters of trade and climate change.
The biggest moment of Mr Trump’s second foreign trip was his meeting with Mr Putin, which came amid continuing speculation about whether the American president’s campaign colluded with Russia in efforts to swing last year’s election.
Then on Saturday Mr Trump's oldest son said that he, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort met with a Russian lawyer last year.
In his Twitter messages, Mr Trump insisted he had twice pressed his counterpart on the Kremlin’s role in election meddling and that Mr Putin had denied any involvement. Mr Trump has frequently said he believes that Russia probably hacked the emails of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton staffers during last year’s election, but that other countries were probably involved as well.
Marco Rubio, who lost out on the Republican nomination to Mr Trump last year, was among those who voiced concerns about working with Mr Putin. “While reality and pragmatism requires that we engage Vladimir Putin, he will never be a trusted ally or a reliable constructive partner,” he said.
“Partnering with Putin on a ‘Cyber Security Unit’ is akin to partnering with Assad on a ‘Chemical Weapons Unit’.”
The move was even predicted last month by a former senior CIA official. Steve Hall, who was head of CIA Russian operations before he retired, suggested Russia would propose a joint initiative before withdrawing at the first sign of disagreement over Ukraine or Syria, for example, before exploiting confidential information.

Donald Trump Jr. hires lawyer for Russia probes.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Donald Trump Jr. has hired a lawyer to represent him in Russia-related investigations, his office and the lawyer said on Monday, as Republicans voiced concern about a meeting between the U.S. president's son and a Russian.
Trump Jr. hired New York lawyer Alan Futerfas, who specializes in criminal defence.
Futerfas would not say when he was retained or whether he played any part in the statements Trump Jr. made over the weekend about a meeting with a Russian lawyer.
Trump Jr. met the Russian, Natalia Veselnitskaya, in June 2016, during the presidential election campaign, at Trump Tower in New York.
He has said he agreed to meet Veselnitskaya, described by the New York Times as having links to the Kremlin, after being promised damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Trump's then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, also attended, the Times said. It called the encounter the first confirmed private meeting of members of Donald Trump's inner circle with a Russian national during the campaign.
Congressional committees and a federal special counsel, Robert Mueller, are investigating whether Russia interfered in the election and colluded with the Trump campaign.
Moscow denies interfering, and Trump, who became president on Jan. 20, says there was no collusion.
Futerfas told Reuters: “I look forward to assisting Donald Jr. and, quite frankly, there is nothing to all of the media buzz about the June 9th, 2016 meeting. That will be proven to be the case.”
A Republican member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, Susan Collins, called on Trump Jr. to testify before the panel, which is looking into accusations of Russian meddling in the election.
"Our intelligence committee needs to interview him and others who attended the meeting," Senator Susan Collins told reporters at the U.S. Capitol. More at link

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
I've reached the point where it's sort of washing over me, LL- CNN getting caught making stuff up was the last straw. Who knows what is real and what isn't?
Again, in wee words and short sentences, I would like someone to tell me just what it is Russia has done. Until they do, it's a nothingburger, a witchhunt that would have embarrassed McCarthy.

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
As you know, I'm not 'into' politics, but let me try and explain by way of an analogy.
Take two reality tv contestants (USA and Russia) both intent on winning the top prize. 'A' has had to rebuild itself into a democracy after being a totalitarian state for about 75 years, 'B' has spent that time trying to prove itself as the democratic saviour of the world. After 22+ years the tide seems to be turn, just a fraction as B comes out of the doldrums, and sees a chance to regain its world position as A seems to be mired down in fractious squabbles at home, and overstretching as it tries to influence as many 'non-alighned' countries as it can - the prize being the world. Those of us who favor neither just have to sit on the sidelines with our fingers crossed. LL

Re: Donald J. Trump wins Presidency
I don't know, LL, the US seems to be in the grip of some kind of mass paranoia. The Left is convinced there are Evil Russkis hiding under beds, and the Right is convinced Moo Slimes are just waiting to slaughter them all.
Maybe it was 9/11, which demonstrated that actually, the US isn't untouchable after all? I don't know, but something seems very 'off' to me - and it's not Trump, he's just the visible sign of whatever is eating away at so many Americans.

Trump visit to Britain to be delayed until 2018: source.
US President Donald Trump's state visit to Britain is being planned for next year, a senior British government source said Tuesday.
Prime Minister Theresa May extended the invitation when she visited Washington just days after Trump's inauguration in January, but a date has yet to be set.
The source said both sides had been unable to arrange a date for 2017 and were now looking for dates in 2018.
There has been speculation Trump was deferring the state visit, an occasion filled with pomp that involves a banquet with Queen Elizabeth II, amid concerns that it would draw protests over his presidency.
Questions about the trip also arose after it got no mention in the Queen's annual speech to parliament in June, when it is customary for the monarch to list upcoming state visits.
But Trump confirmed he would be visiting Britain at the G20 in Hamburg, where he met with May, saying he "will be going to London". Asked when, he replied: "We?ll work that out."
May has been derided for seeking to curry favour with Trump and has come under fire for inviting him for a state visit so soon into his presidency.
Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, the smaller Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party have all called for the state visit to be cancelled, as have some from May's own Conservative Party.
The Speaker of the House of Commons previously said he was "strongly opposed" to allowing Donald Trump to address members of parliament during the US president's state visit later this year.
More than 160 of parliament's 650 MPs have signed a parliamentary motion opposing an address by Trump, citing the travel ban and his comments on torture and women.
A speech to both Houses of Commons and Lords has been a feature of many previous state visits, including one by Barack Obama in 2011.
More than 1.8 million people have also signed an online petition saying Trump should not make the state visit as it "could cause embarrassment" to the monarch.
