GONC IN DOCK FOR LIBEL IN FEBRUARY 2012?

He hasn't actually said too much, has he - nothing that made sense, anyway.

The other thing is that he could have made a lot of money by having his book back on sale because of the controversy surrounding it. As would the publishers and in fact they should have been happy to think they would be recouping losses.

Doesn't sound like they have much faith in Gonc.........

They could have sold those 7,000 books, and another shit load. But these people aren't stupid. They were hardly going to compound the felony. To have done so would just have resulted in larger damages.

That alone says it all.

Yes, Sabot, they could have done more print runs of the book, win-win situation all around for G & P and Gonc.

Heck, since G & P own the publishing rights, they could do whatever they wanted. So you are correct in the reasons why they did not, Sabot. Strange that some people cannot face this, isn't it?

Has anyone found out why Amaral's first publishers refused to have anything to do with his second book? The book that was supposed to come out in, January, February, June, or July, and hasn't?

Tony, I think that was supposed to be his third book? The second was called The English Gag? I believe that was published by someone else also.

Were The McCann Solicitors ever told to return The Copyright? I know that it was passed to them, but I don't remember them being told to pass it back. Just the books as far as I can remember.

There are so many 'Gonc books', it gets confusing....he announced not long ago that he had ANOTHER 'new book' planned - bizarrely, about child abduction in Portugal.

Or so he claimed. The interviewer said:

So who holds The Copyright now, then? If it is still in the hands of The McCann's Solicitors then there ain't anything to worry about at all.
Can they be forced to give it back? Or is there a limit to how many times it can change hands?

I have a delicious feeling that it can't be done.

If it wasn't then it's fate will be decided at the libel trial.

But surely it wouldn't have been Gonc who held the copyright, it would have been G & P - the publishers who don't want their book back.....

From what I can remember, the copyright inside the cover of Amaral's book, stated it was the publisher's copyright.

Perhaps The Judge forgot about that particular aspect. And perhaps Guerre and Paz didn't want it. Could you blame them?

However, it remains a Legal Issue. It can only be given back if The Court says so. And I don't think they did.

The author usually holds the copyright to his/her work for that person's lifetime. The rights to publish the book can be assigned/licensed etc to a publisher for an agreed upon fee.

ETA: G & P would have bought the rights to publish his book and as such they own the published books but Gonc owns/would have owned the intellectual rights to his book

Why on earth would the McCanns be 'cross examined' by Amagal? He's the one in the dock, not them.

They must draw the public's attention to the fact that their constitutional rights and freedoms are under threat from McCann Corporation and one way to fight them is to DONATE to Dr. Amaral Defence Fund.

The above is the e-mail of Portuguese newspaper CM (widest circulation) for those of you who would like to alert CM to the risk posed by the McCann Corps' libel to Portuguese freedoms and constitutional rights, and the urgent need to inform the Portuguese public accordingly.
