Which was rapidly followed by confirmation that there WAS a Portuguese review.

So why did Anjos go on TV and LIE? Did he assume Panorama wouldn't check?

What Robert Murat had to say was very interesting indeed....I got the impression Gonc didn't care who he framed, as long as he framed someone.

I also think that if the McCanns hadn't been British, and Murat dual-nationality, then one - or all of them - would have fallen down those dangerous PJ station stairs. Gonc seems to have been very close to it with Murat.

I must say, Tony, I was very impressed by Robert Murat. He has pretty much stayed away from the limelight - and who could blame him? - but what he had to say was damning.

Gonc said (I paraphrase, everyone needs to see this themselves) that if he didn't 'get' Murat the first night, he would 'get' him the second, no doubt on those dangerous police station stairs.

It's a good job there was such a media circus, and so many witnesses - it probably stopped Gonc from using his usual methods to 'solve' cases.

And Gonc looked seedy. How he could go on there, admit he fouled up, and then start claiming he wrote The Precious to clear his name, I do not know.

Anjos looked ridiculous. He's either an outright liar, or he has no idea what is going on right under his nose. Sandra F. could do with sharpening her act up, too - Panorama made her look a bit of an idiot for not checking what was actually happening in Portugal.

Bonny, did you notice Gonc had no trouble understanding Richard Bilton?

He only used an interpreter to answer, nice cover up IMO.

Murat was lucky wasn't he?

I do hope the moronic forkers take note that this was a program about THE REVIEW of the original workings of the case, NOT about the actual case. It was about how the whole thing was f*cked up right from the start, not about cadavers, holdalls, blinds, fingerprints on windows, Calpol, blood, DNA etc etc etc. LL

Amaral appeared to try and tie Murat in with The McCanns because he knew that no one would believe The McCanns could have covered up such a crime alone. And Murat also had a lawyer hot on the scene.
I have often thought that Murat had a lot to be thankful for because the world was so quickly watching. Just too many past horror stories. And Goncalo Amaral picked on the wrong set of circumstances to practice his appalling mind set yet again.
I feel sometimes as though I am going round in circles, but I am in no doubt that Amaral would have stitched up someone given half a chance. He never did have any intention of doing a proper investigation, probably because he simply didn't know how. And certainly didn't care.
I don't know what motivates him beyond the fact that he is incapable of rational reasoning.

Murat was very, very lucky, Maggs, and he went up greatly in my estimation. I hadn't realised he had been getting that very special Gonc treatment, and a visit to the stairs was on the cards.

You're right - it hadn't dawned on me that he understood what was being said, the sight of his seedy face wasn't doing much for my blood pressure.

Can you imagine how he looked to Middle Britain, who hadn't been following it closely?

He admits he fouled up - and still writes his book of lies, still carries on his vendetta? It was impossible not to see the damage he has done to Madeleine and her family.

What can you say? They've just watched a TV report in which the Fat Defective owned up to earning that title.

They've found out that the Fat Defective was all set to frame anyone who came to hand, rather than do any actual detecting.

They've found out that the Fat Defective's idea of 'investigating' was to brush the dust off his script for 'investigating' the Cipriano case.

And none of this has even registered with them.

No wonder the country's in such a mess, with people so, well, STUPID being allowed to vote.
