Re: War in Ukraine
As far as I know the Ukraine has issued an arrest warrant; the CIA are not involved; as it is an internal matter and outside interference would exacerbate the situation which is very sensitive as he is supposed to be hiding in the pro-Russian part of the country after having been refused permission to fly to Moscow. Are you confusing CNN which is carrying enormous coverga on this with the CIA, ma petite? LLSabot wrote:Lamplighter wrote:Which other bloke? Yanokovych? LLSabot wrote:That sounds reasonable, LL. In the Mail? Oh, well that truth out the window then. You have known me long enough to know I still don't really understand the concept of humour etc very well. Solemn type, that's me though I have been told my smile is nice and my larf infectious! LL

The CIA have got their noses in everywhere, LL. Everybody knows that. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've got Hitler hidden away somewhere.

Oh God. They're not going to dig him up in 500 years time, are they? Where should they rebury him, do you think?

I think he was cremated and the ashes buried in an unknown place so he could never be revered. His parents were removed from the cemetary in Linz, Austria and moved elsewhere as they had become a mecca for neo nazis to visit. LLSabot wrote:Oh God. Re: War in Ukraine
Yanokovych has turned up in Russia in Rostov on Don, which borders the Ukraine, where he is giving a press conference obvously controlled by his Russkie masters. His assets and those of his son have been frozen in all countries holding them. LL

Yup. I hope Cameron doesn't think it's a wonderful idea to restart the Crimean War.

You know that Obama will do nothing and I suspect Cameron is the same?
We certainly do not need a re-run of the Crimea.

I doubt very much if either of them will do anything besides blow hot air and make speeches, Lily. But weak leaders like them always scare me, they're capable of the most stupid things to try to look macho.

Unfortunately, that is the sobering reality, Bonny. I always prefer the confident types myself. Both of them worry me too.

Ukraine: Russia Approves Military Action
Britain and the US are calling on the Kremlin to respect Ukraine sovereignty amid claims Russian troops have been sent to Crimea.
More at:

And what, pray tell, would Obama do if a mess like this blew up on his doorstep? Would he sit and twiddle his thumbs if major unrest broke out in Puerto Rico?
What would he do if left-wing rebels took over Northern Mexico?

Re: War in Ukraine
There is some quite old Treaty wherein certain factions of the Western World agreed to protect the borders of The Ukraine. I didm't note the details but The Treaty does exist.
Perhaps LL will know what I am talking about.

Re: War in Ukraine
I don't know if that applies, when the ousted government was elected, and the one that's taken over wasn't.
It's such a mess, the West needs to keep it's nose out, IMO. Unless Cameron feels like committing UK troops to a recreation of the Valley of Death?

That's a fairly realistic piece, though it does contain something to send shivers down your spine.
Foreign Secretary William Hague is rushing to Kiev and will be able to offer moral support and backing for hopes for closer integration with the European Union.
Will we ever forget Wee Willie gaily announcing that Gaddafi had fled to Venezuela?

Re: War in Ukraine
Have found a few articles online which explain that a commitment is not necessarily a guarantee?

Re: War in Ukraine
Britain couldn't defend the Falklands if Argentina moved on them again, so the very idea of picking a fight with Russia is frankly ludicrous.
Good God, it took the Forces all their time to stop southern England drowning.
This is no reflection on the men and women in military service, they always do their best, but Cameron and his cronies have both cut their budget to the bone and overstretched the remaining forces.
He's been warned repeatedly of the danger, and chosen to ignore it.
