bb1 wrote:It has some fascinating documentaries, LL, well away from politics. And its coverage of the YES referendum has been good. I gave up on Sky a week or so ago as all they seemed to be interested in was the Pistorious trial. Which is tragic and squalid, but not really of any great importance.
I recommend Fox if you want to see Ollie North's unique interpretations of world events.
You put so much time and effort into JATYK, without which we would not be so well inform. Just saying.

It's not a virtue, Sabot, I'm just nosey and like knowing things, and don't like being told lies, by governments or anyone else. Which is how I end up watching wierd news channels and reading strange internet sites. Always bearing in mind that they lie too, for their own reasons....

We think you do a great job regardless, Bonny.
I must say that I do like to read the two ends of an issue also to get a balance.

"Look, Russia is a gas station masquerading as a country," McCain said. "It's kleptocracy. It's corruption. It's a nation that's really only dependent upon oil and gas for their economy, and so economic sanctions are important."
God Almighty, what utter, insulting ignorance!

It must make you and so many other Americans cringe, Lily.
Why come out with a crass, ignorant remark like that at a time when delicate diplomacy is needed? Why pour petrol on the fire?

Re: War in Ukraine
He does like to portray himself as the warrior politician, Bonny? Going too far in the wrong direction because he thinks it makes him/the US look strong? Only guessing......

Sadly lacking? (am being understated here)
93% for Russia. What will some people say now?

I feel sorry for all the ordinary citizens of the region caught up in this mess, and I wish the assorted supposed 'world leaders' would all wind their necks in and work on lowering tension, instead of raising it continually.

Re: War in Ukraine
http://news.sky.com/story/1228225/ukraine-pro-russia-forces-storm-navy-hq
Pro-Moscow forces have stormed the Ukrainian navy's headquarters in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol and raised the Russian flag in an apparently peaceful takeover.
Witnesses said several hundred members of Crimea's self-defence militia and armed men, thought to be Russian troops, forced their way on to the base and raised three Russian flags over the building.
There were conflicting reports about the level of violence involved in the incident, with Interfax reporting that Ukrainian troops were injured after the gates were rammed as the assault began.
But a Ukrainian naval spokesman told Reuters there had been no violence and several men in plain clothes - believed to be from the "self-defence" forces - were in talks with servicemen on the base.
Obama might be better employed concerning himself with matters closer to home, as I see there have been no fewer than FORTY EIGHT gun deaths in his Chicago home town so far this year:

Ten in March alone.
And they can all spare me the hypocrisy and hand-wringing - the West backed Kosovo's UDI, so they have NO authority to meddle in Crimean affairs.

Re: War in Ukraine
Their hypocrisy disgusts me.
What would the US do if a bunch of Left-wing thugs overthrew the elected president of Mexico and asked Chinese troops to take position along the US-Mexico border? Think Washington might be a bit annoyed?
As for comparing Putin to Hitler - it's the West that is supporting neo-Nazis, which says it all.
How many nations has the West invaded/meddled in now, over the last twenty years, and left nothing but failed states and tens of thousands of dead behind, not to mention our nations' finest young men and women who wanted to serve their country and ended up getting killed for a shower of corrupt politicians?
Enough's enough. The West should no more be backing neo-Nazis than it should be backing muslim terrorist cannibals.

Re: War in Ukraine
I turned on Sky news this morning and the first thing I saw was some pompous, red-faced armchair general banging the wardrums, Lily.
I am disgusted with what the west has been doing over the last few years, frankly. And for what? Not for any great principles, that's for sure.
The USSR is dead; Putin may be ex-KGB, but he is less left-wing than many of Obama's policies. Is he any threat to western democracies? No, he's a Russian nationalist protecting Russian interests, which is what he was elected to do.
On the other hand, neo-nazis and muslim terrorists are a threat to ALL of us - so why the feck does the West support them over and over again just because Russian doesn't? The West keeps cutting off its own nose to spite its face - and getting our best young men and women killed along the way.
I am just waiting for wails from the west because Egypt has sentenced a load of Muslim Brotherhood thugs to death.
