He came to L.A. in l987 Bonny and in fact visited the studio I worked at.

House Speaker John Boehner told lawmakers Friday that he plans to resign at the end of October, in a stunning development that comes amid mounting friction with the conservative wing of the party.

He plans to step down as speaker, and resign from Congress.

The 13-term Ohio Republican shocked his GOP caucus early Friday morning when he informed them of his decision in a closed-door session. One lawmaker told Fox News he was "stunned," and that there was "some anger" in the room "against the people who caused this to happen."

The announcement came one day after the high point of Boehner's congressional career, a historic speech by Pope Francis to Congress at Boehner's request. To the backdrop of that day's pageantry, though, Boehner was facing an internal battle in the House GOP caucus over Planned Parenthood funding and threats by some in the conservative wing to challenge his speakership.

Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., said Boehner "just does not want to become the issue. Some people have tried to make him the issue both in Congress and outside."

Conservatives have demanded that any legislation to keep the government operating past Wednesday's midnight deadline strip Planned Parenthood of his funds, a move rejected by more moderate lawmakers....more at link.

I won't pretend to understand all the ins and outs of US politics, but Boehner seems to have done very little to stop any of Obama's mad diktats?

"Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all," the aide said. "... The Speaker believes putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution.

Bonny I have always disliked Boehner for his lack of a backbone.  Yes, he has pretty much allowed the Pres to do what he wants...

Oh, I see Obama is now doing a press show with President Xi.

I would love to know why it's always easier to follow the translations of what non-English speaking leaders are saying, than it is to follow Obama's ramblings and evasions.

Since having to let go of his teleprompter, it has been hard for him.

He also seems to be failing to mention that it is the rebel aka US-backed areas which Assad has bombed; over a million Syrians fleeing the 'nice rebels' have sought refuge in the safety of government-held areas.

I listened to a couple of minutes before I had so stop.  What a joke.

I watched a few minutes with the sound off, Lily - it was actually rather revealing, because without sound, his theatrical 'sincere' gestures and tics that show when he's lying were very obvious....

I get the impression that it has gone down like a lead balloon, that the general US - and world reaction - has been, Yeah, yeah, whatever, Obungle....

Oh, he was speaking in that clipped way he does when he lies.

I got the impression that a lot of people at the UN simply weren't listening, Lily, that they'd heard it all before, and knew Obama is a useless irrelevance.

“If accurate, the report of NSF members providing equipment to Al Nusra Front is very concerning and a violation of Syria train and equip program guidelines,” he added. “In light of this new information, we wanted to ensure the public was informed as quickly as possible about the facts as we know them at this time.”

He went on to say, “We are using all means at our disposal to look into what exactly happened and determine the appropriate response.”.....etc.
