I've watched one or two Cruz videos over the past few days, Lily, and IMO, he simply is not fit for high office - the crooked sheriff of some backwater hamlet is about his level.

I don't know if he believes in all the religious stuff he spouts or not. If he doesn't, he's a fraud - as well as a Cuban Canadian.

If he does, he's sufficiently deranged to press the Red Button to Rapture us all.

On Sunday night we got a look at the 2015 campaign reports for US presidential candidates as the deadline for FEC filings came and went.

There were a number of notable donations, but the headline grabber was George Soros who in the second half of last year gave $6 million to Hillary Clinton’s super PAC, bringing his total donation to $7 million.

Clinton’s “Priorities USA” pulled in $25.3 million in H2 and ended the year with more than $35 million in the bank. Hollywood billionaires Cheryl and Haim Saban gave $1.5 million each and producer Tom Tull chipped in a million. As CNN notes, two other groups supporting Clinton, American Bridge and Correct the Record, brought in an additional $6 million total......etc.

US election: Ted Cruz wins Iowa Republican vote

Texas Senator Ted Cruz has won the Iowa Republican caucuses, the first vote of the US 2016 presidential election.

"Tonight is a victory for courageous conservatives," he declared, to great applause, as he railed against Washington, lobbyists and the media.

He took 28% of the Republican vote, beating his rival, the once frontrunner Donald Trump, and Marco Rubio.

Votes in the Democratic race are still being counted, and some US media have declared it a dead-heat.

With 95% of results confirmed, Hillary Clinton clung to the narrowest of leads over Bernie Sanders and told supporters she was "breathing a sigh of relief".

The former secretary of state and first lady stopped short of declaring victory, and her rival, a 74-year-old senator from Vermont said it was a "virtual tie".

No such ambiguity from Republican victor Mr Cruz, whose triumph was reward for the months he spent criss-crossing the state to woo its influential conservative and evangelical leaders.

As country music blared across the loud speaker at his Des Moines rally, the 45-year-old fiery conservative, who has been a thorn in the side of his party, relished his victory.

Ultraconservative Mr Cruz led the billionaire businessman by 27.7% to 24.3%, with 99% of precincts reporting results in the rural Midwestern US state.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio, viewed by many Republicans as a more mainstream alternative, nipped at Mr Trump's heels in third place with 23.1%.

Sky having hysterics, and failing to explain that this is just the first step of many.

The BIGGEST WINNER is Wall Street. On the GOPe side, the institutional monetary influences, those who determine political outcomes, won with both Cruz and Rubio. Both candidates fill a specific role in the original GOPe road map. Keeping both candidates viable to destroy the real enemy, Donald Trump, is paramount if the globalists are to retain their influence over DC legislation to their own benefit.

The second tier talking head corporate media types, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, and to a lesser extent Glenn Beck, now have a victory to tout as evidence the anointed king and apostle Ted Cruz can mount a glorious evangelical challenge to the Clinton machine.

The loons on the far right, who actually believe the larger U.S. electorate will vote for a smarmy preacher who wraps himself in carefully interpreted pages of the constitution and calls upon the body of Christ to rise up within his followers, well, they’ll now believe it is also possible. Remember, Jim Jones didn’t put the syringes in the baby’s mouths, their own moms actually did it.

The billionaires will keep feeding both, because the end result is a controlled outcome. And, obviously, they control the outcome. Cigars for all…

Way too many non-US commentators have been so blinded by their dislike of Trump, they have failed to pay any attention to what Cruz is.

I am astounded by the number of UK commentators that have failed to grasp that this is only the first caucus, and that there another 49 to go. I can think of a few places when all those public displays of supposed piety will be the kiss of death.

I actually would NEVER vote for anyone that carried on like that. I would assume they were either:

1. Bigoted nutjobs in the Bennett/Rev. Ian Paisley mode.

or

2. Liars and hypocrites.

Frankly, Trump and Sanders seem to be the only honest candidates in the race, Lily. I haven't come across anything to suggest that Sanders is bent; he just seems to be a bumbling idiot lefty.

Maybe Trump could offer him a job that doesn't involve handling money. biggrin

I doubt if Trump is terribly bothered about Iowa; he's done nothing political till now, so will learn from it. Better to make mistakes when it doesn't really matter, than when it does.

As for Hillary - anyone that votes for her needs to see a psychiatrist.
