I haven't the slightest idea, Lily - I actually don't see how hundreds of thousands of 'refugees' CAN be vetted.

The ones the UK is taking are coming from refugee camps, and we have been assured that they have been thoroughly checked out. I just hope that is true.

Can you imagine hundreds of thousands of Germans turning up in Britain in, say, 1942, and saying, Oh, we're not like those nasty nazis, we're nice! And that being taken on trust?

Not in a million years! This bears NO resemblance to the Jewish children taken in by Britain - there was no danger of them attacking the indigenous population because their sky pixie told them to. Huguenots, Poles, Ugandan Asians, previous refugees - all perfectly safe.

These 'refugees' en masse plain and simply aren't; never mind active ISIS, way too many moslems that are already in Europe at the very least sympathise with terrorists. And Merkel has asked more in....

I am always astounded when I see those big, American suburban houses on TV - WITHOUT ANY BOUNDARY WALLS OR FENCES.

Shared front lawns, indeed. That would give most Brits a nervous breakdown, as we are extremely fond of high stone walls, or at least a fence with something jaggy on the top.

It depends which State you live in, Bonny. California typically likes boundaries, the North east and South does not necessarily bother.

I definitely prefer fences etc.

Hungarian police detain suspected British terrorists

Hungarian police apprehended two British nationals who were terrorism supporters with prison records, the national police headquarters ORFK said. The arrest was made last Saturday on an international train at Lökösháza on the Romanian border, it said. The two men had spent 18 months in prison on one occasion and three and a half years on another for financing terrorist acts. They were released in 2009 on condition that they could only leave Britain in the ten years following their release with special permission from the authorities. The men were on the train bound for Bucharest and could not show valid documents proving their citizenship or a legal stay in Hungary. One of them had a British driver’s permit, but the other only handed over a Quran to the police officers, ORFK said.

Both men – the 44-year-old Simon Jonathan K. and the 40-year-old Trevor B. – are held in custody pending deportation. The British consular services were not able to identify Trevor B. as a British citizen, but the suspect later provided his name and citizenship to the authorities during procedures ran by the immigration police. On Tuesday both suspects came up in the Schengen warrant system as wanted for leaving the UK without authorisation, it said.

In a Hungarian jail - well, from what I know of those places, it's no holiday camp!! Bit of excitement today; we were in Kartnerstrassse, where the Vienna Opera building stands, as does St Stephen's Cathedral, the Hotel Sacher and many very upmarket shops etc line both sides, when there was a siren howl and voices yelling "stand still!!" and suddenly there were half a dozen heavily armed police surrounding what appeared to be a fight between two male persons of a swarthy appearance, plus a female screeching in what sounded like Slav. Another cop car came roaring round the corner, more cops jumped out of it. I saw the bigger of the two men being bundled into one paddy wagon while the woman and the other man ended up in the other wagon. We went back strolling down the street, excitement over. LL

At least two of the Paris attackers took the migrant route into Europe, according to French reports, intensifying fears that terrorists are passing themselves off as would-be refugees.
Britain, among other EU states, has contacted France to try and understand how this happened to avoid any repeats “on their name”, according to Le Monde.
French interior minister sources told EU counterparts directly after the attacks that left 129 dead that there was a “strong probability” that “certain terrorists have returned (to Europe) from Syria by passing themselves off as migrants”, the paper reports.
The fears came after a Syrian passport – thought to be in the name of a dead Syrian soldier loyal to president Bashar al-Assad – was found next to the body of a suicide bomb at the Stade de France last Friday.
According to Le Monde, although the passport bore a “false photo”, it was “registered at each stage of its holder’s journey along the Balkans’ migrant route” – starting in Greece – leading Britain and Germany, among others to contact France to “anticipate any threat of this nature on their own soil”....etc.

Fake refugees? Whoever could have seen that coming?

Missed this one, bonny, the thing that was amazing was how heavily armed the police were, each with a state of the art assault weapon, plus their holstered weapon. Can't remember when I've seen such a display of firepower in central Vienna before.
