STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Swedish anti-terror prosecutors on Monday (Nov 23) charged two men with two decapitations committed in Syria in 2013, as the judge told media the two were allegedly Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members.

"The two men charged in Gothenburg district court are Swedish nationals who went to Syria to fight," chief prosecutor Agnetha Hilding Qvarnstrom said in a statement without providing any details on their identities.

Qvarnstrom also told Swedish news agency TT that a film clip of the decapitations, which allegedly took place in Aleppo in April 2013, shows the two men had "expressed joy" over the killings.

One of the men was arrested at the end of July and has been held in custody since then. The other, arrested at the same time, was briefly detained and then released but barred from leaving the country.

The pair are accused of terrorism crimes, and are facing secondary charges of violating international law and murder.

"The crime was intended to damage the state of Syria and instill fear in the people, that is the reason for the terrorism indictment," Qvarnstrom said in the statement.

"The difficulty is to fully determine whether these men have been part of an armed group and acted within the framework of an armed conflict or not," she added.

The court's chief judge Ralf Larsson has requested tighter security in the courtroom when the trial begins on Thursday.

"We have two individuals who are supposedly part of ISIS who will be on trial. This is the first case in Sweden where it is being alleged that they have been down there to fight and committed crimes down there. There is naturally a risk and threat scenario," he told regional daily GT.

Swedish media said one of the men was a 32-year-old former junior champion boxer. According to his lawyer, he can prove his innocence by the fact that he has long been confined to a wheelchair and is therefore unable to have committed the crimes of which he is accused.

The other indicted man is 30 years old, according to Swedish media.

They may have Swedish paperwork, but somehow, I doubt if they are blue-eyed and blonde-haired.

i am in two minds about Orbán, he is a well-known anti-commie dissident who went to jail, I believe, for his stance against the Soviets. He seems to get some things right, and others very wrong. especially where domestic matters are concerned, though he did sort out the energy problems and reduce the charges being made against the domestic users. I am still on the fence where he is concerned. LL

I'm obviously very much an outsider, LL, and know nothing about the intricacies of Hungarian politics, but his main concern does seem to be for Hungary - which puts him streets ahead of many other European politicians?

...and certainly ahead of our guy.

Drone captures refugee center in Finland in flames, arson suspected (VIDEO)



A drone has captured a would-be refugee center in Finland engulfed in flames. Police believe the fire was set deliberately. It comes after arsonists targeted several refugee centers in Sweden in recent months.
The footage shows raging flames and smoke billowing from the building, which is located in a wooded area in the western town of Kankaanpaa.

The center was meant to serve as a reception site for asylum seekers, the first of whom were scheduled to arrive next week.
No one was injured in the fire and the building was empty when the fire broke out, Finnish daily Iltalehti reported.

Police believe the blaze was the result of an intentional arson attack.

It follows a string of similar attacks that have taken place in Sweden in recent months, the latest of which occurred in October.

Latvia, which has a population of roughly two million, is gearing up to accept hundreds of refugees as part of a quota agreed by diplomats in Brussels.

But those who have arrived in the tiny Baltic state say the cold weather, lack of generous state handouts and relatively low number of fellow migrants who speak the same language have combined to make their experience of life in Europe thoroughly miserable.

One refugee worker told German newspaper Die Welt: "The refugees from southern countries tell us openly: Latvia is not our dream destination, we happened here, it was up to the smugglers."

Another added: "It is not like Britain. We want to go to Britain, life is easy in Britain. We want to live in Britain like our friends.”

I take it their 'friends' are all scrounging fake refugees too, then? Here's an idea - give all these scrounging young men a rifle, and send them back to Syria to fight ISIS.

Instead of endangering our young men while these scroungers milk us dry, and our own people go short. Or is that raycist?
