Hungary says it is planning to close its largest remaining reception center for migrants and refugees.
Janos Lazar, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's chief of staff, said Thursday that the complex in the town of Bicske, near Budapest, is no longer needed because the government has managed to stop the migrant flow.
The Bicske facility is supposed to hold about 500 people, but usually operates well above capacity. In December, Hungary closed the reception center in the eastern city of Debrecen, which could hold 1,200 people and opened during the 1990s wars in the former Yugoslavia.
Dozens of migrants a day are still arriving in Hungary, most by breaching the razor-wire fence built last year on the border with Serbia. Nearly all leave quickly for Germany and other Western destinations.

Events have proven Hungary's attitudes to be pretty much correct, IMO - it's a great pity Hungary hadn't been listened to when all this started.

Officials in Hungary say some migrants detained by police after breaching the fence on the border with Serbia will be taken to transit zones beyond the fence where they can apply for asylum.

Until now, migrants detained by police and requesting asylum were usually taken to open reception centers, from where most continued their journeys to western Europe, but Hungary is planning to shut the centers down.
Gyorgy Bakondi, Prime Minister Viktor Orban's security adviser, said that the rules approved Monday by parliament will apply to migrants detained within 8 kilometers (5 miles) of the border but where it cannot be determined that they cut through the border fence — a criminal act since the razor-wire barrier was built late last year.
Human rights advocates consider that measure as another restriction on migrants and refugees.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has admitted that some terrorists entered Europe among the wave of migrants that fled from Syria adding that the refugee flow was used in part to “smuggle terrorists” on to the continent.

Speaking to supporters of her Christian Democrat Union party in eastern Germany, Merkel admitted that militant groups had smuggled jihadists among those genuinely looking to seek asylum in Europe.
"In part, the refugee flow was even used to smuggle terrorists," she said, as cited by Reuters.
Merkel’s open-door policy, which was criticized by a significant section of the German population, saw more than 1 million migrants arrive in Germany in 2015, with a number of those originating from Syria.
The announcement from Merkel comes just over a week after Germany’s spy chief Hans Georg Maassen said the domestic intelligence agency had obtained information on 17 IS militants who had entered Europe under the guise of refugees.
“There is strong evidence that… 17 people have arrived under Islamic State instructions," Maassen said.
In the same month, a chilling plot emerged, which involved a group of Syrians linked to IS who wanted to carry out a terror attack in Dusseldorf.
Two members of the four-man group planned to detonate suicide vests in the center of the western German city, while the other members would look to kill as many people in the vicinity with a combination of explosives and gunfire.
Three of the suspects were identified as 27-year-old Hamza C., 25-year-old Mahood B., and Abd Arahman AK, 31. They were arrested at various locations around Germany. Their plan was revealed when a fourth member, 25-year-old Saleh A., handed himself in to police in France in February.
"According to current investigations, the four accused were planning to commit an attack in Germany for the foreign terrorist organization Islamic State," said the prosecutors, as cited by AFP.

There's plenty of room for them ^^^^ to live in comfort on the Clooneys' nearby HUGE estate. I am sure George and his human rights activist/lawyer wife will be along shortly to let the 'refugees' in - it's not as if the Clooneys don't have several HUGE estates, and are forever lecturing us plebs.

Migrants held makeshift banners reading "Hungary Open Borders" or "No Borders, No Fence" as they marched Friday in a long column along a road leading north from Belgrade. Several police cars drove slowly by the marchers. Most migrants appeared to be young men who stand little chance of entering Hungary or other EU nations.
I can't see Hungary being terribly impressed, somehow....

Because EU leaders don't want to end their careers dangling from lampposts, courtesy of angry mobs of voters?
Because the 'refugees' have brought their war and poverty with them - as some of us predicted.
They can go back to Syria, it's nice and civilised in the government-held areas.

I can think of a lot of Scots families living in poor conditions who would love to be given a fresh start and free everything in such lovely conditions; I would rather see them rehoused than these ungrateful barstewards.
That story does rather confirm rumours that there has already been friction between them and the locals, however.
I wouldn't spend another penny on them, personally - but that's just me.
