Whitney Houston Dies In LA Hotel Room

The entertainment industry is in mourning after award-winning music legend Whitney Houston was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room on the eve of the Grammys.

The news was first announced by her publicist Kristen Foster but the cause of star's death is currently unclear. It is not being treated as suspicious.



Lieutenant Mark Rosen from Beverly Hills Police told KABC-TV that Houston was pronounced dead in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton hotel at 3.55pm (local time) on Saturday.
It is thought she was found by her bodyguard. Detectives said paramedics unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate the singer.

"She has been positively identified by friends and family that were with her at the hotel, and next of kin have already been notified," Lieutenant Rosen told reporters.
US entertainment news website TMZ reported that the singer's daughter Bobbi Kristina was at the Beverly Hilton at the time and had to be held back by police from entering the hotel room.

The scene at the Beverly Hilton was chaotic as shocked guests for a pre-Grammys gala arrived while reporters swarmed the hotel, fans gathered outside to light candles in her memory and helicopters hovered overhead.
Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown was due to perform in Mississippi as news spread about Houston's death.
He broke down in tears backstage and was unable to come out before the crowd for his first song, before appearing onstage later.
He told the sell-out crowd: "First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all. Second, I would like to say, I love you Whitney. The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage."

Later in the concert Brown appeared emotionally overcome, his voice cracking as he walked off stage. The concert ended soon afterward.
On Thursday night Houston was pictured looking dishevelled and worse-for-wear as she attended a pre-Grammy party in Hollywood.
But earlier in the evening she had received a standing ovation for performing a duet with host Kelly Price.

Houston died hours before she was expected to perform at her longtime mentor, record producer Clive Davis's annual pre-Grammy party, which is held at the Beverly Hilton.
Davis decided to continue with the party and stars including Alicia Keys and Serena Williams were seen arriving at the hotel.


The Grammy Awards are the biggest event in the music industry's calendar.
The ceremomy is now likely to be a sombre, subdued affair that pays tribute to Houston's huge contribution to music.
Plans for the evening have already been altered with Jennifer Hudson and Chaka Khan expected to perform a tribute to the artist.
Houston had been at rehearsals for the show, coaching singers Brandy and Monica.

A magnificent talent lost for ever. I was not a huge fan because it is not my sort of music really, but her voice was amazing

It's just such a waste, all that talent, all that money - she could have done so much good in the world, but instead she let it destroy her.

I can't comprehend how empty someone must feel to seek salvation in poisonous chemicals. Such a shame - as is every life lost to alcohol/drug abuse.

If she hadn't married Brown, she may very well be alive today.

She did, Sabot. They are awaiting news to see if it was drug related.

Having gone to the Beverly Hilton loads of times, I don't think it would be possible to feel right there again.

It reminds me of when I went to a friend's party at the Chateau Marmont the day before John Belushi died there, in the bungalow next door, the sadness for him never went away.

The real problem is the nature of the business. For some, once the thrill of fame and vast fortune wears off, then what next? There are drugs everywhere unfortunately and there are always those who will ensure a plentiful supply for those in need. You see it time and time again........really sad.

Of course rehab will only work for them when they are ready.

If she hadn't married Brown, she may very well be alive today.

Don't worry. They are both going down the pan. Madeleine has accomplished more than we could ever have dreamed of. One very small and sweet child has shown them all to be the awful people that they are.

Rumors are circulating that the people in the bedroom whilst Whitney was in the bath; are suing Nancy Grace for intimating they had a hand in the singer's death.

Grace said;
“I'd like to know who was around her, who, if anyone gave her drugs – following alcohol and drugs – and who let her slip, or pushed her, underneath that water? "

Tony, I hope they do. This business of using tragedy as entertainment is sickening; and I gather it isn't the first time Grace has been vile about people who are already hurt.

Grace drove a young girl to suicide.

Grace and her ilk need a wake-up call, and if the only thing that stops them is hitting them in the wallet, then its time someone hauled them into court.

It's like feeding Christians to the lions. You can almost script it these days. Someone dies or gets abducted and they're all in there baying for blood. And never a word of apology when they are proved wrong. I have watched what appeared to be relatively reasonable people turn into ravening beasts.
Someone has suggested that it is mass hysteria, but somebody has to start it going, and on this occasion we have seen Nancy Grace doing it.
And do you know what? I wasn't even surprised. How sad is that?
