The Judiciary Police from Oporto will not reopen the investigation of the Maddie case, since there are no new data pointing to the clarification of her whereabouts.

A source from the PJ National Directorate has confirmed to Correio da Manhã that over the past year a PJ team has been verifying all the elements of the process, with the objective of making an assessment in order to try to find other investigation viewpoints, but up to now nothing new was detected.

The PJ team, working in conjunction with the English authorities, is directed by Helena Monteiro, who coordinated the elucidation of the Carina case - the college student from Lamego, whose body was found several days after her disappearance.

DETECTIVES are using the latest computer technology to try to create a new image of a “prime suspect” who might have been involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

They are also working on a “computerised reconstruction” of the night she disappeared by putting thousands of pieces of information into the police Holmes computer.

The developments come at a significant time with the Policia Judiciaria in Portugal announcing it has a cold case team working on the investigation in Porto, north Portugal.

The Portuguese officers will work closely with the Scotland Yard detectives and will have “primacy” in the investigation.

The Sunday Express understands the Yard team have been examining all photofits, e-fits and drawings of people suspected of being involved in the disappearance of three-year-old Madeleine from an apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007. One of the best known drawings was based on a description given by a friend of Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate. Jane Tanner claimed she saw a man carrying a child in his arms but did not get a good look at his face.

Other images were created from witnesses who saw people acting suspiciously in the vicinity around the time of the crime.

Irishman Martin Smith and members of his family saw a man carrying a child in his arms at about 10pm, about 45 minutes after the Tanner sighting. However, he was not asked to help produce a photofit. The Met refuses to discuss the details but it is expected that officers will approach Mr Smith and his family for help. Yard experts are looking at ways of improving the images to end with one pristine likeness of the “suspect”.

Officers are using the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System for computer logging of all relevant information and have tailored it to help create what is described as a “computer reconstruction” of the key events of the night of May 3.

It is hoped that eventually there will be an almost minute by minute account, which will assist officers.

The Yard launched its review last year after Kate and Gerry McCann appealed directly to David Cameron. Officers have visited Portugal several times and are said to have a good relationship with their Portuguese counterparts.

PJ deputy chief Pedro do Carmo said: ‘‘The Porto team is very experienced in these cases.”

Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leicestershire, hope the review will lead to a full scale reopening of the case.

To me, the direction of the Review Team couldn't be any clearer.

Much as people criticized the UK press for being sycophantic, lack balls, and pander to the mccanns, I do hope they do ot report on the leaks picked up by the Portugal Press at the moment as that would only give Mccanns ammo to spin which is pointless.

Time is not right yet for a full blown coverage. That will come in good time when the mccanns appear in Court for their own trial if it comes to that.

Does he really think the UK press are totally incapable of reading the Portuguese press for themselves, looking for stories?

They know all about it, they know almost as soon as it goes online.

Oh, and the McCanns will not be appearing in any court, charged with anything. That is because they are not involved in their daughter's disappearance, as the Yard, the non-Gonc PJ know, as the government of two European nations know, and as the UK press know too.

The Portuguese press also know the McCanns are innocent, of course, but print any old Team Gonc rubbish to sell a few more copies.

There is something that really needs pointed out to the forkers, as they continue to fail to grasp the meaning of the forensic reports...

I know nothing about Forensics but the first samples from the Scenic showed 15 of 19 'markers. which Stuart Prior said would have been sufficient to take any case to Court in the U.K

No, Gonc CLAIMS that that is what Mr Prior said.

Guys, I have bad news. I was already suspicious that this PJ review was nothing more than an exercise in PR, thus the re-start of the 2010 campaign "A Voice for Madeleine". This was mainly due to watching Pedro do Carmo, stating that Oporto's PJ special unit had been working on a review for the past year.

Last night, a TV show, that I'm about to start translating, has confirmed that said costly "review" exercise, is based exactly on Scotland Yard's motives - I'm afraid that both we, the Portuguese, and you, the British people, are just financing vain and meaningless PR exercises from both our police forces.

She sounds desperate, frankly, and is proving all over again that she does NOT want to find out what has become of Madeleine, she just wants to attack the child's parents.

Portuguese Cops Review Madeleine Case

Portuguese police have launched a review of the Madeleine McCann case.

A team of detectives based in Oporto has been appointed to re-examine the original investigation into the little girl's disappearance from the Algarve in 2007, according to reports.
It is understood that the team from Portugal's investigative Policia Judiciaria (PJ), headed by senior officer Helena Monteiro, has been looking at the Madeleine case for some weeks now.

No new leads have been found that point to Madeleine's whereabouts so the Portuguese will not be formally reopening the investigation, the Correio da Manha newspaper reported.

Madeleine was three when she went missing from her family's holiday flat in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3, 2007, as her parents, Kate and Gerry, dined with friends nearby.
Portuguese detectives, helped by officers from Leicestershire police, carried out a massive investigation into her disappearance.
The official inquiry was formally abandoned in July 2008.
Scotland Yard officers have been carrying out their own review since last May.
It was launched after a request from Home Secretary Theresa May supported by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Speaking after news of the Portuguese move, McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "Kate and Gerry obviously welcome the work being done by the PJ in Oporto alongside that of the Met investigative team.
"They clearly hope that it will lead to the case being reopened in due course.
"There is good co-operation between the Met and the PJ, and Kate and Gerry remain grateful for the time and resources that have been put into the search for Madeleine.

"They will not be discussing any details whilst both the Met investigative review and the PJ work is continuing, but clearly it is a positive development."
