Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
I would be interested to know why she trivialises these massacres, Tony, and personally, I find the tone of her waffle about Denver rather worrying.
She seems to have no empathy whatsoever for the victims.
Here's the thing; how big a step is it from deciding to take the law into your own hands by digging up 'graves' in other countries, to massacring people for political reasons?
It's troubled me for a while, this sense of entitlement the forkers and hounders all have, especially when taken with their blind fury when the legal authorities refuse to bow to their demands.

bb1, you´re right about it:
"That woman has disgusted me all over again... She has NO respect whatsoever for innocent people caught up in these things."
his actually, what to expect from a person like pat brown.
the author of such massacre should be sent to electric chair.

I understand Colorado is a death penalty state, Pedro? I'm not getting into the rights and wrongs of the death penalty, but I don't see him getting a soft option there.
I don't think anywhere in the States has these crazy 25 year maximum sentences as in Portugal and Norway?
Even the UK, which is often seen as being soft on criminals, can and does lock them up until they die in jail.

bb1, I don´t know if Colorado have death sentence, but, surely, that even if it have not, other USA towns can have it, he can be sent to one of those towns, after trial in Colorado.
Or better yet, deliver him to the hands of the angry mob who lost relatives, I'm sure that they know what to do with him.

Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
Colorado reinstated the death penalty in 1975 and while since 1977 the state has only executed one prisoner, Holmes could face a capital punishment sentence if he is convicted on murder charges.
I don't think anyone convicted in one state can be sent to another for punishment. A suspect can be sent to a state where he is accused of a crime from another state. Only states have the right to execute, not towns. LL

Thanks, LL.
As this has happened in a death penalty case, it does rather suggest that the death penalty isn't the deterrent it is claimed to be?
I can't help thinking that spending every single day of the rest of your life in a less-than-cushy US jail might actually be worse.....

Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
I think sitting on Death Row for 25 years, reprieved 5 times or maybe 10 times, then one day when maybe you are elderly, someone decides it's time for you to die. Maybe a change in state governor, from one who doesn't like the death penalty to one who loves it. You resign yourself to your fate, then suddenly, another change of heart, and you are unstrapped from the gurney and sent back to your cell. More appeals, more pleas for clemency - it must be a total relief when that injection is made and you sink into oblivion. And there are other American practices I find abhorrent, the main one being shackles. The Nazis at Nürnberg were being tried for the death of millions; they were not shackled like animals; why do the Americans find it necessary to bring prisoners into court, chained up and surrounded by hefty cops with big guns? What do they imagine is going to happen? LL

Am I right in thinking that, when the UK had the death penalty, there was only three weeks between the sentence, and it being carried out?

What a complete, utter, offensive, moron she is.....no wonder she annoyed so many viewers.

I think this idiot is projecting her husband’s thoughts on their marriage with her analogy of:
marriage plans = death
Does she actually think that pulling stupid faces and treating this as a joke is an appropriate way to behave?

Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
As I remember it was 6, to allow for appeal against the verdict and to ask for clemency. But it was done in a way that was considered fit for what had happened and with due consideration for human behaviour despite what the guilty person had done. Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
Thanks, LL - contrary to popular belief, it's a bit before my time...
I can never make up my mind about the death penalty. It doesn't seem to be a deterrent - it certainly didn't stop any of the gruesome British serial killers. And there is something nasty about the machinery of state being used to cold-bloodedly execute people, not to mention the endless miscarriages of justice.
On the other hand, there are criminals who really are a waste of skin, and will always be a danger to society.
I certainly didn't care when Bin Laden and Gaddafi met such sudden ends, and I personally wish some Norwegian policeman had put a bullet in Breivik.
I don't know what the answer is.

Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
When younger, I felt that he death penalty was warranted for the murder of children, policemen on duty and premeditated, ie carefully planned and executed murder, not a sudden rush of anger and someone lies dead. As I have aged, I still feel the same about the children, not so sure about other cases. But I do NOT agree, and never shall, with people being kept under the threat of death for many years as I said before. I believe the Chinese execute on the day of sentence, and do not allow appeals. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. LL

Re: SHOOTING AT BATMAN PREMIERE IN DENVER, 10 DEAD AND MANY INJURED
Second triggering device disabled in suspect's apartment
By the CNN Wire Staff
July 21, 2012 -- Updated 1853 GMT (0253 HKT)
Aurora, Colorado (CNN) -- Investigators carried out a "controlled detonation" Saturday inside the booby-trapped apartment of movie-theater shooting suspect James E. Holmes, the latest move in a three-step effort to enter the apartment.
"We have been successful in disabling a second triggering device," said police spokeswoman Sgt. Cassidee Carlson. "Although not certain, we are hopeful we have eliminated the remaining major threats. However, we will not know this until we enter the apartment."
Inside Apartment 10 remained "all kinds of hazards" that would take hours to collect and mitigate, she said. "In the event another triggering device is found, we will do another controlled detonation."
The blast came after a policeman yelled, "Fire in the hole!" three times.
Fire officials were on standby, but there was no immediate indication of a fire.
What was detonated was not an explosive device but rather a device intended to, in the words of a law enforcement official, "disrupt the explosive chain" of what experts believed could have been an explosive device.
The detonation was carried out by a robot at 11:40 a.m. (1:40 p.m. ET). The official said the fact that little smoke was visible after the incident was a good sign. Officials were deciding whether to send people inside, the law enforcement official said.
Earlier, a trip wire and an incendiary device had both been dealt with, Carlson told reporters. "This trip wire was set up to clearly detonate when somebody entered the apartment, and it was set up to kill that person," she said. "That could have been a police officer executing a search warrant. This is some serious stuff our team is dealing with."
It was not clear where all the explosives had been located, though many have been seen in the living area with circuitry reaching into the kitchen, a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the operation told CNN.
One of the incendiary devices appeared to be improvised napalm and others appeared to be mixtures that, if combined with other materials, could cause an explosion, the official said.
Approximately 30 aerial shells are in the 850 square foot apartment, Carlson said. They will be placed on sand trucks and taken to a disposal site for controlled detonation, she said.
Officials had been hoping to avoid detonations to limit any loss of evidence, she said.
"Jars of black powder" and what appear to be "liquid accelerants" attached to the explosive devices are also inside Apartment 10, another law enforcement official said. "He placed other chemicals to enhance fire/thermal effect of IEDs," the official added about Holmes' apartment.
"He has a level of expertise, not crude," the official said.
About 100 officials were called in to oversee the entrance into Apartment 10 at 1690 Paris Street. Federal personnel flown here from out of state include bomb technicians from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists. Police evacuated five buildings Friday, including the one where Holmes lived, after he told them he had rigged his apartment with explosives.
Shortly after police apprehended Holmes in the rear parking lot of the Century Aurora 16 movie complex, where dozens of people had been shot, he told them that he had rigged his apartment, Police Chief Daniel Oates said Friday.
Suspect bought over 6,000 rounds of ammunition
After the shootings, police arrived at Holmes' apartment to find "techno-music" blaring from the bedroom, according to a law enforcement source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The music was on a timer and apparently started once he left for the movie theater, said the source, who was not authorized to release details of the investigation to the media.
Kaitlyn Fonzi, a 20-year-old graduate student at University Hospital who lives in the apartment beneath Holmes', said she heard the deep-bass, reverberating music crank up around midnight Thursday, just as a sold-out crowd was settling into its seats at the Batman premiere a few miles away.
Fonzi said she walked upstairs to confront Holmes. She put her hand on the door handle to his apartment -- it felt unlocked, she said, but she did not open it.
"I yelled out and told him I was going to call the cops and went back to my apartment," she said.
Fonzi's call got little attention -- police said they were busy with the shooting and did not have time to respond to a noise disturbance, she said.
What she has learned about the booby-trap has left her shaken. "I am concerned if I had opened the door, I would have set it off," she said.
Oates said Friday that it could take days to work through the apartment safely. While authorities did not say how many residents were evacuated from nearby buildings, the number is estimated to be in the hundreds.
Authorities began Friday night to allow families in four of the five evacuated buildings to return to their residences briefly to retrieve personal items, such as medication, identification cards and clothing.
A shelter was set up at Aurora Central High School for those forced from their apartments.

Just look at this disgusting post:

They took a 6 year old to a Batman Movie ?
I don't think I have the words to describe anyone as devoid of human decency as CSI Petey.

Okay, someone has to start a new trend. I will no longer accept any media interviews to discuss individual mass murderers. #theatershooting
I expect that is because she will never be asked again, after the outrage she caused in the States with her treating the Denver killings as if it was some kind of huge joke. Not forgetting the stupid faces she pulled while she was doing it.

That may have something to do with her appearance on Fox News as a so called 'Criminal Profiler'.
I was watching the wannabe when something wonderful happened. Another guest who was on after her, a proper psychiatric doctor, stated that she didn't know what she was talking about. He then went on to pull apart many of her comments.
The next time they had a criminal profiler on that same day it was announced as 'FBI Criminal Profiler Candace .........'
I do not know how she could salvage any kind of reputation after that.

Stopped doing media interviews etc......? Why, if you were in the US at the time this happened then you would know differently, Bonny.
She seems to have fallen out of favor - well at least on the Fox Network.
