The judge has been reading her judgement for over 3 hours now, with repetition after repetition of what they did, what they wore, what they said, how upset the Orthodox Church/the congregation/the man in the streeet was/how religious/non-religious the three women are. It's a travesty, a throw-back to the old commie show trials. LL

Sentence just handed down: 2 years each in prison. LL

Jail seems pretty heavy-handed - they should have been charged with Crimes Against Fashion and told not to do anything so tacky ever again.


As long as they don't now break out of jail and take refuge in the British Embassy.....

Jail For Pussy Riot Band Over Putin Protest

Three members of a Russian punk band who protested against Vladimir Putin in a church are jailed after being convicted in Moscow.


Three members of the Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot have each been jailed for two years for performing an anti-Putin protest in Moscow's biggest church.

President Vladimir Putin's opponents said the trial in Moscow was part of a wider crackdown by him to crush their protest movement.

Music stars including Madonna, Sir Paul McCartney and Bjork had called for Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alyokhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, to be released.
