Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
Oh my, someone's been arrested. But it's only Freddie Starr, so no great shocks or dramas there.

Sky Sources: Starr Arrested In Savile Probe
The comedian denies allegations that he molested a teenage girl when he appeared with Jimmy Savile on a TV show in the 1970s.
Comedian Freddie Starr has been arrested by police in connection with the Jimmy Savile sex abuse investigation, Sky sources say.
Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said it was not clear whether Starr was arrested at his home or whether he went to talk to police by appointment.
The 69-year-old comedian, who denies any wrongdoing, said at the weekend he was prepared to speak to officers after a woman accused him of molesting her when she appeared alongside him and Savile on an episode of BBC show Clunk Click in 1974.
Karin Ward, who was 14 at the time, was the main interviewee in the ITV documentary which exposed the Savile sex abuse scandal.
Brunt said: "She was very firm in her allegations but Starr was equally vociferous in his denial, so much so that he said he would be willing to be interviewed by police."
Starr denied touching Ms Ward inappropriately and denied meeting her on the show.
His lawyer issued a statement claiming he had been mistaken and he had appeared on the programme after all.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Officers working on Operation Yewtree have this evening arrested a man in 60s, in connection with the investigation.
"The man from Warwickshire was arrested at approximately 17.45 on suspicion of sexual offences and has been into custody locally.
"The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we are terming 'Savile and others'."
More follows...
-------------
Odd that the only people arrested have been the two named by misery memoir authoress Karin Ward. Whatever became of all those promises and threats of last week from the police? The public expected dawn raids on MPs, all sorts of dramas.
And wasn't it supposed to have happened at TOTP, not Clunk Click?

Savile Inquiry: Freddie Starr Released On Bail
Sky News – 34 minutes ago
Freddie Starr has been released on police bail after being questioned by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile sex scandal.
The 69-year-old had been arrested in Warwickshire on suspicion of sexual offences by officers working on Operation Yewtree.
He was bailed during the early hours of this morning.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Officers working on Operation Yewtree yesterday (Thursday) arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.
"The man, from Warwickshire, was arrested at approximately 5.45pm on suspicion of sexual offences, and was taken into custody. He has since been bailed."
Starr, who denies any wrongdoing, had said at the weekend he was prepared to speak to officers after becoming publicly linked with the Savile scandal.
Starr appeared with Savile on an episode of BBC show Clunk Click in 1974 alongside Karin Ward, who has since accused him of molesting her.
Ms Ward, who was 14 at the time, was the main interviewee in the ITV documentary which exposed the Savile sex abuse scandal.
Starr denied touching her inappropriately and said he had not appeared on the show.
His lawyer later issued a statement claiming he had been mistaken and that he was on the show.
Starr's arrest follows that of Gary Glitter, who was questioned at a central London police station on Sunday after being detained at his home in the capital.
The former pop star was later released on bail.
Scotland Yard is leading a national investigation into Savile, who died last year at the age of 84.
He is now believed to have been one of the UK's most prolific abusers, with about 300 possible victims.
The BBC has launched an inquiry into the culture and practises at the corporation in the era of Savile's alleged sexual abuse.
It is also looking at the decision-making process which saw a Newsnight investigation into Savile's activities shelved.
The review, led by Nick Pollard, former head of Sky News, will report back on its findings later this month, it was announced earlier.

Released on bail? Oh, what a surprise, whoever would have seen that coming?
You must excuse my cynicism, but I do wonder if people who have done jail time for fraud and now write misery memoirs are being entirely truthful about events nearly forty years ago.
Also, I understood Ms Ward was born in 1958? My mistake, I'm sure, and anyway, that is the kind of detail the police are best placed to check.

Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
The mainstream media really wants to get its act together, Sabot. It's usually the internet that is the source of total rubbish, but this time - apart from the likes of the Icke Lizard Cult - it's way ahead of the press.
Unless this whole thing is some kind of giant game by the media, and they know all these terrible tales have more holes in them than a colander? They must do, they can read the internet like the rest of us. And their next trick to gain sales is going to be 'revealing' to the sheeples that many of these claims are bogus? The 'victims' will then become national hate figures?
And no, the media won't care about lives wrecked along the way, they never do.
If they had any conscience at all, they would be devoting all these column inches to ROCHDALE, the child abuse scandal our supposed leaders seem to want swept under the carpet.

The Witchfinder General is gloating:
Mark Williams-Thomas @mwilliamsthomas
The tide has turned for many victims. Strength to now disclose historic sexual abuse. There should be some worried people & rightly so .
Mark Williams-Thomas @mwilliamsthomas
Morning - Freddie #Starr arrest which I broke yesterday dominates front pages. He was bailed after approx 6hrs in custody #jimmysavile
========
And since when did he become police, judge, jury and executioner? How do we know he isn't doing this to divert attention from his own wrongdoings? His sidekick Rantzen has certainly got a lot to hide.
Starr arrest which I broke yesterday dominates front pages.
The tone of that really, really bothers me - I hope it bothers the police and legal authorities, too.

Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
It was Anna Raccoon that started this ball rolling, Bonny. The minute she started pointing out "Mistakes" everyone started looking, and boy oh boy, haven't they found some.
Of course The Media could have found them, but they just didn't want to.
A lot of already damaged lives are going to be even more damaged, and I can't say I care about the Fibbers.
Not sure about those who actually might have been groped because I am still having a bit of difficulty working out how much damage that might have done.
I personally have been groped more times than I can remember, but unfortunately it wasn't by anyone famous.
I am still thinking about sueing The Odeon in Neasden. Or was it The Gaumont in Willesden? It could have been both.

He's an ex-policeman who has been under several legal clouds, Pedro. He stuck his oar into the McCann case at one point by announcing that Madeleine had left the apartment alone and THEN been abducted. Which rather indicates how much attention to detail, or reality, he has.
He is now in business as a 'child abuse expert'. He has no legal standing at all.
A lot of already damaged lives are going to be even more damaged, and I can't say I care about the Fibbers.
Agree, Sabot, this is going to end very, very badly, IMO, and the fibbers are going to do untold damage to child protection.
I couldn't give a flying one about Savile - he's dead. Or Gadd - he's vile. Or Freddie Starr - he can afford lawyers. And he was never very funny, anyway.
But the fibbers make me very angry indeed. People have struggled for years to get GENUINE victims of abuse listened to - just look at ROCHDALE, the scandal that is being ignored.
Who is going to benefit once the fibs are shown up in the mainstream media? No-one except child abusers, which disgusts me.
I don't know what this bread and circuses, media witch-hunt is really about, but I am damned sure we are not hearing the whole story.

'Senior political figure' may be outed as a paedophile in Newsnight investigation tonight
Editor of the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Iain Overton, reveals the scoop in tweet
The tweet prompted furious speculation online about the identity of the paedophile, who is still living
Channel Four's Michael Crick claims he has spoken to the man, who denies he is a paedophile and will sue if Newsnight shows investigation

A 'senior political figure' may be outed as a paedophile on Newsnight this evening, it has emerged.
The investigation about the unnamed man, who is alive, is currently being looked at by the BBC's legal team, who refused to comment on the story today.
It was revealed by the editor of the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Iain Overton, in a mysterious tweet.
He wrote: 'If all goes well we've got a Newsnight out tonight about a very senior political figure who is a paedophile.'
The bureau he runs, is a not-for-profit organisation which works with news organisations to publish in-depth investigations.
On this occasion they have been putting together the story on this alleged paedophile for the BBC
Channel Four political correspondent Michael Crick says he has spoken to the man at the centre of the allegations, who denied that he was a paedophile and said he would sue if Newsnight broadcasts anything on him tonight.
He also added that the man said he had not been approached for a comment by the BBC, despite it being earmarked for tonight's Newsnight.
The Metropolitan Police have told MailOnline they have not been handed anything on the subject of the investigation.
The BBC has faced a barrage of criticism for scrapping a Newsnight programme detailing the sexual abuse of SIr Jimmy Savile.
It took a ITV documentary to reveal the DJ had carried out decades of abuse involving hundreds of victims, some of who were raped on BBC premises.
The corporation's director general George Entwistle was hauled before a select committee last week to explain why and how it happened.
Newsnight's editor Pete Rippon also stepped down over the issue.
It came after Labour MP Tom Watson shocked the Commons last month by alleging there was ‘clear intelligence’ linking a former Number 10 aide with a notorious group of sex offenders.
He has compiled a dossier allegations for the Metropolitan Police, which is currently dealing with hundreds of allegations of abuse against Jimmy Savile.
But it is unclear if this is linked to the Newsnight investigation.
Mr Watson suggested a Number 10 insider was named in files connected to the conviction of a child porn smuggler in the early 1990s.
He told the Commons: ‘The evidence used to convict paedophile Peter Righton, if it still exists, contains clear intelligence of a widespread paedophile ring.
‘One of its members boasts of his links to a senior aide of a former prime minister who says he could smuggle indecent images of children from abroad.
‘The leads were not followed up, but if the file still exists I want to ensure that the Metropolitan Police secure the evidence, re-examine it and investigate clear intelligence suggesting a powerful paedophile network linked to Parliament and No 10.’
Mr Cameron said Mr Watson ‘raises a very difficult and complex case’ and he was ‘not entirely sure which former prime minister he is referring to’.

He was questioned and then bailed; they obviously saw no threat that he might abscond. And he is not a well man, so I assume they chose to spread the questioning over 2, or even more days in deference to his health. He is, after all, assisting the police with their enquiries, he is not under arrest. LL

Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
I have just remembered MWT's last publicity stunt effort to help the police:
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/266578
Last night criminologist Mark Williams-Thomas, who quizzed Hazell at the family home for ITV, revealed he had not been allowed to enter Tia’s room.
He tweeted: “Such sad news, I stayed downstairs yesterday. The other members of the family were all upstairs. I was not allowed in Tia’s room.”
So on the ball was he, he chatted away merrily to the alleged killer, while the child's body was hidden above his head.
I am liking his involvement less and less.

Remember what Anna Raccoon said?
She has given no interview to the media. She was presented by Claire Ellicott with a list of nine christian names, no surnames, of girls who claim to have reported assaults by Savile on themselves to her at Duncroft. She told her that she had no comment to make. She did answer a couple of questions. Then she spotted the concealed tape recorder. Now she waits to see what the Mail version of this encounter proves to be.

Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
I have just watched the Newsnight program - it was about abuse in many North Wales childrens' homes, not the savile case, and NO names were actually mentioned, just that a prominent politician was involved. So where did this idea come that it was going to be more revelations re savile? He wasn't mentioned, nor were the accusations against him, just that the inquiry held over the N Wales accusations covered only that area, nowhere else. LL

I don't like the sound of that interview at all. Journalistic Licence, I suspect, as it doesn't sound even remotely like the conversation Anna had with Miss Jones. Not that I expect Anna to tell us what was said, but there will be some idea of whether or not that interview is true.

BBC Savile case 'witchhunt' slammed
Press Association – 2 hours 9 minutes ago
There has been a "disturbing relish" in the way critics have laid into the BBC over the Jimmy Savile sex scandal, according to veteran presenter Jonathan Dimbleby.
The broadcaster said there has been a "witchhunt" against the corporation since allegations that the late Jim'll Fix it star abused hundreds of young girls and women - some on BBC premises - emerged.
In an interview with The Times, the Radio 4 presenter, who first started working at the BBC in the late 1960s, said: "I think it's disgraceful and horribly out of proportion to hound everyone at the BBC in a way that is unwarranted and lacks perspective when the real focus should be on what Savile did wrong.
"Paedophilia is a huge national problem that no one thought about 50 years ago and is now something that concerns everyone, but this has become a witchhunt against the BBC."
Blaming the media and politicians for getting their priorities wrong, Mr Dimbleby added: "Organisations that have come under flack recently such as newspapers and MPs want to get their revenge. They think the BBC is too smug and holier-than-thou.
"But there is a disturbing relish in the way the critics have laid into the BBC, holding today's office-holders to account for what happened 30 years ago."

Re: Jimmy Savile accused in ITV documentary
I don't know what is going on here at all, LL, but I do know I don't like it. I don't believe for one minute that the likes of the Mail is playing with clean hands in whipping up the mob like this, and it is all going to end very badly.
The business of the unknown politician is odd, too, after all the speculation and gossip that was whipped up. I hope Newsnight handed over ALL their investigations to the police, I am a bit sick of the likes of the likes of MWT gatekeeping information, and deciding when the REAL police will speak to people.
I have no doubt that, as predicted, the Mail spun a few words from Miss Jones to suit whatever their real agenda is; knowing the Mail's hatred of single parents who live off the state, it will be interesting to see how long they carry on championing Ms Ward, etc., for.
We are in very murky waters here.
