Re: IT IS TIME TO PUT TWITTER IN THE DOCK
They found 10,000 of them in no time at all. Quite a nice sum for Charity even at five pounds a throw. Let's hope the acceptable sum increases with the extent of the Libel, and that they all have to contribute to Costs.
And no chance of Bennett escaping.
Also a very good pointer for The McCanns as to how easy it is. And it would be a boost for The Find Madeleine Fund
What a hoot if they all finish up "Donating" to help find Madeleine. They won't like that.

This is how deluded they are - from one of the texusa loonies:

I wonder who would be give the task and massive budget necessary to try to find the 'owners' of IP addresses? CR? Worse odds than looking for a needle in a haystack. Hilarious!
Er, no, sorry. This is more or less how it happens. Allegedly.
Legal people ask hosts for ip of whoever posted at a given time on textusa's blog.
Hosts click 'textusa', scroll down comments to given time, see ip, give legal people ip.
Legal people then get name behind ip from isp.
No 'massive budgets' or haystacks involved. Oh, didn't they know that?

Well, no-one cares greatly about the garbage on textusa, or the comments he/she/it churns out endlessly, according to which Voice is speaking, but they don't seem to realise how easy it is to track them down.
How do they think the police get hold of FB, etc., trolls, so quickly?

Oh my. There must be one or two worried forkers and hounders tonight. Especially ones who are desperate to get their names in the papers, and think, mistakenly, that all publicity is good publicity.

Ho Ho. It gets better and better. They have finally bittened off a bit more than they can chew. And how we have longed for this. But we knew it would happen one day, with a bit of patience.
So I guess someone will have to forgive me for my moment of intense satisfaction.

They now have the opportunity to put their money where there mouths are and decide for themselves about the value of publicity.
This reminds me, they should give their real names on their forums so they can stand head and shoulders above the rest blah blah blah. (They can take that bit up with Bennett and Pretendypete.)

Sabot, nothing to forgive as we share your feeling.

I've only ever wanted them to be sorry for what they have done, Lily. But it's never going to happen, is it. They will go deluded to their graves, convinced that they have a right to do this, and any punishment will only make them more resentful.

Lynch mob’ enemies blamed by Bercow
Sally Bercow said that her enemies were attempting to turn her into the “poster girl for the Twitter lynch mob” yesterday as Lord McAlpine’s legal team confirmed that they planned to sue the wife of the Commons Speaker.
The Times understands that the peer’s lawyers are also preparing to threaten Google with legal action unless the internet search giant removes all links to web pages repeating the false allegations that he was involved in child abuse.
It wasn't that when she was smearing Lord McA., along with the rest of the lynch mob.

The tide on Twitter finally turning against the trolls and cowards
21 Nov 2012 00:00
Twitter can be a fantastic force for good but for many it has become a tool for gossip, smear and innuendo
Fantastic. The tide on Twitter finally seems to be turning.
Lord McAlpine, who has tracked down 9,000 people who falsely linked him to child abuse claims on Twitter, is leading the charge against all those cowards who’ve spread their nastiness with the click of a send button.
Good for him.
For too long the smug-faced twitterati have thought it hilarious to spread rumours and gossip about politicians, celebrities and sports people either not knowing or not caring that their actions could put them in court.
And of course their utter contempt for the truth and for decency meant their nasty little outbursts were copied by a whole generation of twitter trolls who have sent their vile musings to millions, causing untold misery.
Whatever you may think of what I write you can be certain that it has been read, reread, and checked at least five or six times by different members of Mirror staff – including a lawyer – by the time it reaches you.
Which is why, contrary to the old adage, you CAN believe most of what you read in the papers.
And not only are we rigorous about checking our stories we also abide by legal stipulations about what we can and can’t write and who we can identify.
Which is why the schoolgirl alleged to have run off with a teacher hasn’t been named in print this week yet that daft bint Sally Bercow saw fit to tweet her name to her 59,000 followers.
Now she faces a £5,000 fine. Again, fantastic.
Twitter can be a fantastic force for good but for many it has become a tool for gossip, smear and innuendo.
Hopefully Lord McAlpine’s strident action will be a wake-up call to the tedious tweeters.

I want to see a few of the supposedly ordinary Tweeters clobbered. Like Gillyspot and Bennett.
But tis interesting that so many of The McCann hounders have been spreading their wings and branching out to attack all and sundry. They thoroughly enjoy this vile sport, so anyone will do.

I do hope you are right, Tony. Their anonymity has encouraged this because they think that no one can find out who they are.

Worry not, she also has to pay monies to his lordship for her vile dribble. Knowing she is one of the anti McCann trolls too; is icing on the cake for a certain journalistSabot wrote:crazytony wrote:You mean they haven't taken her picture yet?Sabot wrote:

How odd! Many of the McCann-haters appear to be clutching at straws and attempting to justify their vile behaviour!

They can't say we didn't warn them. But they rejected our kind advice and went on Libelling. And now a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is after them, leading the way.
But we always have said that The Internet would have to Police itself.

Re: IT IS TIME TO PUT TWITTER IN THE DOCK
They certainly picked the wrong target this time:
Lord McAlpine: Met considers criminal investigation over Twitter messages
Lawyers for Tory peer to meet detectives over online child sex abuse allegations made after Newsnight report
The Metropolitan police is to assess whether criminal prosecutions can be brought over Twitter messages that linked Lord McAlpine with allegations of child sex abuse.
Lawyers for the Tory peer will meet Scotland Yard detectives on Wednesday to begin a scoping exercise into the allegations, the Met confirmed.
Scotland Yard said in a statement: "We have not received an allegation of crime at this time, however, we can confirm we will be meeting with interested parties to start the process of scoping whether any offence has taken place. It is far too early to say whether any criminal investigation will follow."
Lawyers for McAlpine said they had identified up to 10,000 allegedly defamatory tweets about the former Tory party treasurer.
They announced plans to sue Twitter users and broadcasters, including the BBC and ITV, for libel following the inaccurate Newsnight report into child sex abuse on 2 November.
Twitter users could be prosecuted under the Malicious Communications Act if their messages are found to be grossly offensive.
The prospect of criminal convictions for allegedly defamatory Twitter messages is likely to raise the temperature on the debate over free speech online. Several users of Twitter and Facebook have been prosecuted – and some jailed – in the past year over offensive messages.
