Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Just about to go through the 50,000. So much for remarks from the hounders like:
Surely people would be wary of joining any campaign that has GM as a spokesperson.
Read it and weep, haters.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
They don't seem to be very interested in The Petition at all, do they.

Doesn't fit with their twisted worldview, Sabot.
At one level, it is unpleasant to see the Hounders carrying on with their hatefest as if nothing has happened.
But at another, it is very, very funny to see them all going

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Here's another good 'un from the hounders:
I think that most of the media deliberately side-step the McCanns in their summaries.
So, there aren't any headlines or stories like this in hounderworld?
McCann Urges PM To Pass Press Law
Updated: 10:19pm UK, Friday 30 November 2012
Gerry McCann has firmly pressed the Prime Minister to pass a new press law and urged him not to ignore the stories of the Leveson inquiry victims.
The father of missing Madeleine McCann said it was time for politicians to "do the right thing" and that if they did not do so his evidence would have been "almost useless".

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Indeed well said.
But no doubt The Internet will make good use of it's Free Speach in the run up to the next Election. I will certainly make good use of mine. And The Government can depend on their Free Speech being used by The Media.

Looks like the hounders and forkers really are just a tiny, hate-driven minority.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
The problem for Cameron seems to be that once this becomes on Statute it will be more easy to Amend. But since both Statute and Amendments will require a Vote, I am having some difficulty in understanding what the problem is.
Except of course, if Cameron doesn't trust MPs in general. And I am a teensy bit inclined to agree with that worry, if indeed this is how he feels. Although I can't think of any other reason, since this would always be controlled by Parliament alone. And who else would ultimately benefit?
There are always Elections, but very few Laws get changed by successive Governments if they suit The Government who gain power, and since successive Governments are rarely held to account if they don't stick to their Manifestos.
So what to do? The current Laws governing Press Libel aren't working, so something has to be done that has some bite, and this can only be done by Law.
Personally, I would take my chances on there being a few good men and true who will not allow Parliament to stifle The Press for their own benefit. There were a few who seriously did not cheat on Expenses. And there will be more. But will there be enough? And are The General Public fed up enough to fight back? I think they might be.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Another delusional McCann-hater:
Philomena Gurney @Phillyspot
FACT...#McCann cult members are still reeling at the national outpouring of anger on Twitter over Gerry #McCann's performance yesterday.
Sadly for them, a handful of carpet-chewing socks are not 'national'. The speed at which people are rushing to sign the petition which Gerry McCann launched yesterday speaks for itself.

Looks like it's going to pass the 100,000 mark before the weekend is over.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Saturday and Sunday when most people aren't working? It will pass 100,000. Isn't this the figure required for Parliament to take notice? And all done in three days.
The Press have killed off themselves. Nobody else to blame. The Court of Public Opinion has had enough, after at least six years of totally uncontrolled behaviour.
The Internet will be next. And sorry for repeating myself, but ordinary, decent people will not be affected. We don't want their kind of Free Speach.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
Theirs isn't the free speech of the brave man or woman who exposes wrongdoing and political corruption, Sabot. It's the Free Speach of the thug who wants to silence quieter voices, the sly, snide, prodnosing gossip who enjoys inventing salacious gossip about people he or she envies.
The public have the sense to know the difference, which is why they are voting in their tens of thousands to put an end to tabloid trash, and the hurt and pain it causes innocent people and their families.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
That, I think, is the whole point, Bonny. Parliament won't be hovering to repress the brave men and women who expose wrongdoing and political corruption if they are telling the proven truth. This is probably why I support Julian Assange in principal.
The real truth seekers are light years more intelligent, and do make sure that they can prove what they say. Nothing will stop that happening.
And many thanks to the first Forker who misspelled Free Speach, and how we all laughed at the time, but that person defined exactly what it is all about.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
You have to wonder if Cameron made some kind of Faustian deal with Murdoch - the tabloids get left to invent salacious tittle-tattle unhindered, and in return, they leave the government alone. His screeching U-turn stinks, whatever is behind it.

I do believe that Cameron is basically an honest man, in so far as he understands the man in the street, which is not a lot. And even he immorally misclaimed on his Expenses.
The son of Anthony Wedgewood Benn, formally Earl Stanbrook, did not do this at all, even in so far as not to claim some things that he could have done. I have great admiration for both of them, albeit not of my political persuasion. And I very much doubt that either Father or Son are corrupt in any way at all. It is people like them that I base my faith on.

The press are doing themselves no favours in not reporting this - all they are doing is making it clear they are terrified of being called to account for their vile behaviour.

Re: PRESS VICTIMS PETITION FOR NEW LAW
To their credit, Sky are covering it:
The Prime Minister will meet newspaper editors next week, to discuss the future of press regulation and whether the industry can deliver it alone.
It comes as an online petition demanding the Government act on Lord Justice Leveson's recommendations in full has attracted more than 60,000 supporters in less than 24 hours.
Support for the petition launched by Hacked Off, the group campaigning for victims of phone hacking, has doubled overnight.
