If either of them had had a shred of decency, then a simple statement of apology for what they had done, and an announcement that they had both resigned, would have been correct.
But to go on TV, with those crocodile tears, acting as if they were the victims - disgusting.

Re: Royal Prank Call Nurse 'Commits Suicide'
I've just remembered - it was some Aussie idiot who broke the embargo on the story about Prince Harry being in Afganistan the first time. Thereby endangering, not only Harry, but every single twenty-year-old squaddie with red hair.
Perhaps Harry should play a 'prank' on the moronic DJs? Take his Apache helicopter to Australia and give the pair of them a surprise demonstration of its firepower?
And if his finger slipped and he hit one of them, well, it's just a prank, isn't it?

Blood money? Attempt to appease guilty consciences? LL2Day to resume ads but donate the profits
NZ Newswire
December 11, 2012, 9:10 pm
Southern Cross said on Tuesday it would make a minimum $A500,000 (£325,995 at today's rate) donation to a fund that will help the family of Jacintha Saldanha, a nurse that transferred the call to another nurse who divulged the details about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge. Ms Saldanha took her own life last Friday.
"All profits from advertising on 2DayFM until the end of the year will be donated to an appropriate fund that will directly benefit the family of Jacintha Saldanha," Southern Cross Media said in a statement.
"Southern Cross Austereo today reiterates its deep regret for what has taken place in these tragic and unforeseen circumstances and offers its condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha."
Southern Cross chief executive Rhys Holleran said: "We hope that by contributing to a memorial fund we can help to provide the Saldanha family with the support they need at this very difficult time," he said.

Appeasing their Advertisers. Two weeks advertising revenue won't kill them, and it will get their advertising back on track. Who could refuse to donate to this cause?
Sorry, cynical me. It won't bring her back, but it might help her family.

Oh, sorry we killed your mother, have some money, it was only a prank, why aren't you laughing?
Personally, I would very publically tell them where to stick their blood money, but maybe her family simply cannot afford to.
Scum, the lot of them.

College Fees to pay for both of the children, and probably a Mortgage, without their mother's salary.
Take the blood money, would be my advice.

The whole business disgusts me, Sabot. I am sick to death of society having to cater to morons who think they are entitled to inflict their stupidity and scumminess on everyone else.
No-one has yet answered my most basic, simple question.
Who thought it was 'funny' to play 'pranks' on an ill, pregnant woman and hospital staff in the first place?
I think the US has a charge which just about covers it - malicious indifference?

This must be about the only time I have agreed with Richard Littlejohn:
But for Michael Christian and Mel Greig to invite the world to share their pain is unforgiveable. I’m sure their remorse was sincere. Turning their public apology into a self-indulgent, self-justifying sobfest was, however, utterly nauseating.

2Day FM's PR strategy after royal prank call a 'major cock-up'
THE media strategy 2Day FM has adopted in the face of the royal hoax call scandal has been branded as "insane, dumb and a major cock-up'', by senior PR executives.
The decision to put up the prank DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian for television interviews on the commercial current affairs shows on Monday night was the talk of the media industry yesterday. But for all the wrong reasons.
Instead of drawing a line under the scandal it was seen as "only adding petrol to the fire'', giving the scandal a few more days of coverage.
"The person who suggested putting them on TV should be sacked,'' one senior PR industry figure said.
"They have just made the story bigger and inflamed the British media. It is clear there has been no plan to deal with this from the start or if there has been then it has been a terrible plan.''
Public Relations Institute of Australia president Terri-Helen Gaynor said this is "PR 101 in what not to do'' and she is already using it as a case study with her own staff.
The initial attempts by station owners Southern Cross Austereo to say over the weekend that it had done nothing wrong was also slammed as "stupid and a massive cock-up'' by the more than four senior PR executives that spoke to News Limited yesterday.
"The station immediately adopted an aggressive and provocative stance instead of being contrite and apologetic and it deserves the full fallout that it is receiving,'' one senior PR practitioner said.
Major advertisers, including Telstra and Coles, have suspended lucrative advertising contracts in the aftermath of the scandal.
Former Fairfax editor and experienced PR man Mike Smith said the presenters should never have been put on television.
"The response to this has been all over the place with the management making huge mistakes from the very start. It was an unusual situation but it has been handled very poorly,'' he said.
Southern Cross Austereo chief executive Rhys Holleran's "muddle-headed'' response and evasive manner in a variety of interviews was also branded as a major mistake that just inflamed an already angry British media.
A senior industry figure said it is clear that panic has been driving the whole mess and that common sense has been thrown out the window by senior management at the station both when the prank was put on air and since the unforeseeable suicide of nurse Jacintha Saldanha.
"The industry has been dumbfounded and nobody can work out what they are trying to do, it just doesn't make any sense,'' said the 20-year veteran.

Kate Middleton cancels presence at public ceremonies
Kate Middleton still unable to attend official ceremonies, due to strong sickness suffered in recent weeks. For medical advice, the Duchess of Cambridge will remain at rest some more time at home.
The Duchess of Cambridge, who was recently hospitalized due to a severe case of sickness, will not attend the premiere of British film by New Zealander Peter Jackson, "The Hobbit."
Officials of the British royal family announced on Tuesday that Kate Middleton, whose pregnancy was confirmed last week, continue to rest, remaining at this time, away from public events.
The wife of Crown Prince William was hospitalized on the 3rd of December with 'hyperemesis gravidarum', a severe form of morning sickness whose symptoms include persistent vomiting, dehydration, fatigue and dizziness.
The morning sickness affects about 30% of pregnant women in early pregnancy, as this severely affects one in 200.
After four days of hospitalization, the Duchess of Cambridge left the hospital on December 6. Kate's pregnancy have not yet reached 12 weeks.
The Duchess of hospitalization was marked by a tragic incident involving a pair of Australian radio animators, who tried to get information about the health status of Kate Middleton imitating the voices of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, and a hospital nurse King Edward VII.
A few days later, the nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who was caught in the game of Australian animators radio, was found dead at home.

Royal Prank Call: Nurse 'Was Found Hanging'
Jacintha Saldanha was still alive when she was discovered, but attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.9:47am UK, Wednesday 12 December 2012
Jacintha Saldanha was found dead days after a hoax call to the hospital
The nurse who died after a hoax call to a hospital treating the Duchess of Cambridge was found hanging, Sky sources say.
Jacintha Saldanha was still alive when she was discovered on Friday morning in her room at staff accommodation near the hospital.
"Whoever had discovered her first had cut her down," said Sky's Martin Brunt. "By the time police and paramedics had arrived she was still conscious and attempts were made to revive her.
"If it adds anything to this very tragic story it indicates a very determined bid to kill herself, rather than what some people describe as a cry for help.
"I also understand ... that a suicide note was left in which she, we believe, gave some explanation for the actions that she's thought to have taken."
An inquest is due to open on Thursday morning.

Well, the radio station owners have also announced, on various media outlets, that they have cancelled their Christmas party, saying there was already a bar bill of over A$13,000 in the kitty. What a big, magnanimous decision; a cancelled booze-up against two youngsters who will now celebrate Christmas without their mother and a husband bereft of his wife. It is so vulgar, I can not believe it. LL

My own feeling is that that radio station is in big, big trouble - that we haven't heard the full story of exactly what they did, yet.
They were too quick to hand over a great deal of money.

Thank you Pedro.
Bosses at the Australian radio station, 2Day FM, have also been under pressure to explain why they gave the go-ahead for the prank.
The company which owns the station, Southern Cross Austereo, yesterday cancelled its staff Christmas party and said it would donate the rest of the year's advertising revenue – some £320,000 – to a memorial fund set up in Mrs Saldanha's name by the hospital.

I haven't yet seen a single reasonable explanation as to why the Aussie Whingers went ahead with their sicko stunt. The very fact that the station is handing over so much money, so quickly, screams GUILT.
And I still cannot imagine what kind of moron thinks it's big and clever to play 'pranks' on ill, pregnant women, and hospitals, to begin with.

If either of them get hurt, well, it's just a prank, isn't it, haven't they got a sense of humour?

Results of the autopsy on the body of nurse Kate known tomorrow
Autopsy results on the body of the nurse, who committed suicide after being caught in a game of two Australian broadcasters, will be announced Thursday, Scotland Yard announced.
The "media" British nurse told EU partners that committed suicide, and television channel Sky News said Jacintha Saldanha, 46, hanged himself, information not confirmed by police.
The Evening Standard newspaper asserted that the nurse left a farewell letter to his family.
The autopsy took place on Tuesday at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Westminster, central London, and the results will be announced on the morning of Thursday at a hearing with the circumstances responsible for investigating the death of a nurse.
Two animators Australian radio 2Day FM last week contacted the King Edward VII London hospital, where he was hospitalized Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William, due to strong nausea caused by pregnancy, pretending to be the Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles .
Caught by the call misleading, Jacintha Saldanha has called a colleague who was with Kate and this provided the Australian radio hosts information about the state of health of the Duchess of Cambridge.
Jacintha Saldanha was found dead on Friday, where he lived at the lodge.
The British press immediately forward the hypothesis of suicide and British Prime Minister David Cameron also assumed that it was a suicide, describing what happened to "absolute tragedy".
Police, who is still waiting for autopsy results, continues to speak of "unexplained death" formula that excludes murder, but not suicide.

Radio donates 405,000 euros to the family of victim nurse call false.
The Australian radio that made the fake call for information on pregnancy of Kate Middleton will donate $ 500,000 Australian (about 405 thousand euros) to the family of the nurse who answered the phone call and was later found dead, in circumstances still not fully clear.
Jacintha Saldanha, 46, died last Friday morning, near the King Edward VII Hospital in London, where he worked. The nurse, of Indian origin, answered a call of two Australian radio animators, who posed as members of the British royal family to obtain information on pregnancy of Kate Middleton.
The nurse, mother of two children, believed the Australians speakers and the call went to the infirmary of Kate Middleton, where another nurse revealed confidential information about the health status of the Duchess of Cambridge, who esteva hospitalized due to a severe case of motion sickness.
"We hope to contribute to a fund in memory of Jacintha're helping Saldanha family at this very difficult," said Southern Cross Austereo, owner of the "2Day FM", announcing that all revenues from advertising the program until the end of the year, accrue to the family of the nurse who presumably committed suicide.
Jacintha's family, in Karnataka, India, did not exclude the hypothesis of crime and requires an independent inquiry. "Since Indian laws apply in Britain, the family is considering taking out a second autopsy," said one of migo the family newspaper "Times of India".
The British authorities have already committed to do an autopsy and an investigation opened in the death of a nurse, who presumably committed suicide following the fake call of animators 2Day FM.
The two animators who made the call, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, said they never thought the interview was to air, much less, that had this result.
"The idea that we may have played a role in it erodes us into the bowels," said Mel Grieg. "Not a minute passes without her family and think about what they are spending," he added, speaking to the program "A Current Affair".
The idea to make the fake call came at a team meeting and was not a decision of the announcers put the call in the air, explained Michael Christian. The recording of the conversation went through a voting process at Southern Cross Austereo before being issued, he said.
